La Santa Misa: La Plegaria Eucarística En esta oración recordamos que Jesús vivió, murió y resucitó de entre los muertos para que nosotros tuviéramos vida. Al recordar la promesa de Jesús en la Última Cena, el pan y el vino que ofrecimos anteriormente se transforman en el Cuerpo y la Sangre del Señor. Luego oramos por toda la iglesia, por el Papa y los obispos y por todos nosotros. Oramos por los que han muerto y para que nuestro mundo sea un lugar más justo y más en paz. Terminamos recordando que toda la gloria y el honor le pertenecen a Dios, a quien hemos conocido en Jesucristo. En la sección en que trata del momento de la consagración de la Misa, el Catecismo Católico para adultos de los Estados Unidos (cap. 17) nos recuerda que en este momento es importante reconocer que el sacerdote está hablando con el Padre, en nombre de Cristo, que es quien presenta la ofrenda de sí mismo al Padre. El sacerdote presenta también el sacrificio de la Iglesia. El sacerdote une la consagración eucarística al sacrificio en la Cruz y a la Última Cena, haciendo posible que el sacrificio de Cristo se convierta en el sacrificio de todos los miembros de la Iglesia. El pan consagrado se convierte en el Cuerpo de Cristo. El vino consagrado se convierte en la Sangre de Cristo. Jesucristo está presente sustancialmente de un modo completamente único. Esto ocurre por el poder del Espíritu Santo a través del ministerio del sacerdote que actúa en persona de Cristo durante la Oración Eucarística. Es Cristo mismo quien nos transforma en sí mismo. Por eso, nuestra participación, apertura y receptividad, son esenciales. La entrega personal en cada Misa es el mejor modo de ser transformados en Cristo.

The Holy Mass: Canon of the Mass

The central part of the Mass, also known as the Eucharistic Prayer or anaphora, which is the prayer of thanksgiving and consecration. It begins with the Preface Dialogue (i.e., “The Lord be with you. . . . Lift up your hearts. . . Let us give thanks to the Lord our God”) and concludes with the final Doxology (“through him, and with him, and in him”) and Amen.

Epiclesis: The prayer petitioning the Father to send the Holy Spirit to sanctify offerings of bread and wine so that they may become the Body and Blood of Christ.

Consecration: The consecration is that part of the Eucharistic Prayer during which the priest prays the Lord’s words of institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper. Through this prayer the bread and wine become the risen Body and Blood of Jesus.

Anamnesis: From the Greek, meaning “remembrance.” We

remember Jesus’ historical saving deeds in the liturgical action of the Church, which inspires thanksgiving and praise. Every Eucharistic Prayer contains an anamnesis or memorial in which the Church calls to mind the Passion, Resurrection, and glorious return of Christ Jesus.

Doxology: A Christian prayer that gives praise and glory to God often in a special way to the three divine Persons of the Trinity. Liturgical prayers, including the Eucharistic Prayer, traditionally conclude with the Doxology “to the Father, through the Son, in the Holy Spirit.”
