ATTENTION ADULTS! Are you interested in becoming Catholic? Or are you already baptized and want to receive First Communion and Confirmation?

We invite all adults interested in becoming Catholic or who are already Catholic and want to prepare for their First Communion or Confirmation, to join us for an informational meeting on

THURSDAY, AUGUST 9 at 6:00PM In the Welcome Room of the Church

If you would like to register at this meeting, please bring a copy of your Birth Certificate. If you are already baptized in any Faith, please bring a copy of your Baptism Certificate as well.

PROCESS BEGINS: September 12, 2018 REGISTRATION FORM: A downloadable form is available at www.ollvchurch.org/faith-formation or in the Parish Office. Once you have filled out the registration form, contact Julia Dodson at 702-802-2300 to set up a short 20-minute appointment to begin the process.

A L RCIA P S Have you ever desired to share in the missionary activity of the Church, but couldn't travel to foreign lands? Perhaps God is calling you to share the riches of your Catholic Faith with one person, without leaving your family or career, by becoming a sponsor in our parish’s RCIA process. If you have been confirmed, are a Catholic in good standing, and, if married, are in a Sacramental Marriage, then consider whether the Holy Spirit may be leading you to walk on the journey toward the Catholic Church with one special person. A sponsor offers spiritual help to a candidate for Baptism and/or Confirmation (CCC #1311). As you walk with someone through the RCIA process, you will also be called upon to offer the practical help of incorporating that person into the community, familiarizing him/her with Catholic worship and culture, and to urge both the local parish and the bishop to welcome the catechumen or candidate to receive the sacraments at the Easter Vigil. You will be asked to come to the weekly RCIA sessions, to attend the selected Sunday Mass with your RCIA group, and to take time to get to know your catechumen or candidate. St Thomas Aquinas tells us, "For this reason he also who receives this sacrament, [Confirmation] has someone to stand for him, who, as it were, has to instruct him concerning the fight." (Summa Theologica, Third Part, Question 72, Article 10) Are you willing to devote a significant amount of time for nine months, to introduce one person to the Catholic Church, "the mother of our new birth" (CCC #169) which offers him/her the fullness of Salvation won for us by Jesus Christ? Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God, became man, suffered, and died to redeem you. He would have done so if you had been the only person in the world. As a sponsor in the RCIA Process, you can "pay it forward" by bringing one person to the life of Faith within the Catholic Church. Contact the Parish Office for more details if you want to make this commitment.

Warning Against False Doctrine. 3 I repeat the request I made of you when I was on my way to Macedonia, that you stay in Ephesus to instruct certain people not to teach false doctrines 4 or to concern themselves with myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the plan of God that is to be received by faith. 5 The aim of this instruction is love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith. 6 Some people have deviated from these and turned to meaningless talk, 7 wanting to be teachers of the law, but without understanding either what they are saying or what they assert with such assurance. 8 We know that the law is good, provided that one uses it as law, 9 with the understanding that law is meant not for a righteous person but for the lawless and unruly, the godless and sinful, the unholy and profane, those who kill their fathers or mothers, murderers, 10 the unchaste, practicing homosexuals, kidnappers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is opposed to sound teaching, 11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted. - 1 Timothy 1:3-11

Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be part of a Catholic community and a commitment to the life of the parish family. To clearly state your Catholic commitment in all its dimensions brings you advantages, recognition and responsibilities of many kinds.

Being a registered parishioner makes things much easier when it is time for Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, Weddings, School Registration, when asked to be a baptism or confirmation sponsor and even funerals. We will also be able to provide you with a financial statement for your taxes at the end of the year.

We are often asked to provide affidavits for Baptism and Confirmation sponsors. We can only do this if a person is a registered, active and contributing member in our parish. How do you know if you are already registered? A registered parishioner receives all parish mailings. So, are you a registered parishioner? If not, please consider registering. Registration forms are available in the parish office or you may register on our parish website at www.ollvchurch.org.

For Information on RCIA Registration, see page 2 of this bulletin.
