“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” (Matthew 13:44) Dear Parishioners, The grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Love of God and the Communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you… (2 Cor. 13:14). I greet you in Christ and pray that you and your families are well and protected in the midst of this pandemic. I survived my first week here at Our Lady of Guadalupe: “Times flies when you do what you love which is to serve you! It has been an amazing couple of days here as I am meeting you, the people of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Given the situation with the Covid 19 pandemic, it makes it difficult to get to know people right a way. This is our new normal, but we will make the best of it with God’s help. Please continue to pray for us, your Priests as we continue to pray for you. When we consider the parables about the Kingdom of God, they each provide a different perspective in a simple, and yet deeply profound way. Take, for instance, the parables about the hidden treasure and pearl of great price. “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field…” (Mt 13:44) On the one hand, Jesus is trying to convey the immeasurable worth of the Kingdom of God. It is so valuable that those who find it sell all that they have to possess it. We hear the echo of Jesus’ call to the rich young ruler to sell all he owns and give it to the poor to become a disciple, or Jesus’ invitation to Peter, James and John to leave behind their nets to follow him. It implies a cost while promising a great return. For some, like the rich young man, it is too much. The Greek word translated as “kingdom” is basileia. It refers to the sovereign reign or authority of a king. It is not a geographical area, but carries the idea of any place where a king has authority or rule. This is what we pray for in the Our Father when we say, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done. On earth as it is in heaven.” In terms of the Gospel, the Kingdom of God is the very presence of God. It is where God is, where he is acting and interacting with us. We can experience a piece of that glory now. When Jesus came announcing the coming of the Kingdom of God he did so with power and miracles and healing and deliverance. But, more importantly, he did it with his very presence, and before returning to his Father in heaven he made sure that his followers would be able to continue to advance the Kingdom of God through his power and his presence. He gave the Holy Spirit to his Church to empower it to spread the Good News through the many gifts of the Spirit. He left us the gift of his body and blood, soul and divinity through the sacrament of the Eucharist. Right now in every Catholic Church, the Real Presence, the abiding presence of Jesus is waiting for us. May God be Praised!

Stewardship: Faith “We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.” - ROMANS 8:28

Do you really trust God? Do you really believe that God will provide all that you need? Stewardship faith is a challenge for everyone at times. Putting our trust in God, in everything we do, in good times and in bad, means that God’s plan for our lives may be quite different than what we planned. When one door closes, another one opens. Trust in God, His plan is always better.

Daily Prayer Messages:

Would you like to receive short prayers or reflections daily? It is a nice way to begin your day. Please call the Parish Office @ 856-627-2222 with your email address. A Share in God’s Kingdom: Today concludes a three-week series of Gospel texts in which we have listened to a total of seven parables about the Kingdom. The believer is asked to consider the request that God made of Solomon in today’s first reading: “Ask something of me and I will give it to you” (1 Kings 3:5). Today’s parables about the treasure buried in the field and the pearl of great price should prompt us to answer, “A share in your kingdom, O God!” Today we discover that the kingdom of God is beyond value, a priceless treasure. Unfortunately, our culture bombards us with things that it believes are priceless treasures—the bigger and better SUVs, anti-aging and anti-balding creams and salves, miracle diets, and so much more. Having a share in God’s kingdom and helping to bring about that kingdom are the greatest treasures that we can ever hope to gain. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

—Miguel Arias, Copyright © J.
