From the Pastor’s Desk

Del Escritorio del Pastor

Dear parishioners and friends: In our country, last week, we witnessed the

inauguration of President Trump and people from

around the world tuned in and listened to his Inaugural

Address. I t is the speech that sets the tone for every

newly elected President. The speech represents an

outline of the plans and goals for the new

administration. In our Gospel this weekend from St.

Matthew, we hear the Inaugural Address of Our Lord

Jesus as he begins his public ministry. Jesus teaches

us the Beatitudes, and like the President’s speech, this

too sets the tone for the teachings and priorities of

Jesus. Our Lord turns the values of the world upside

down. The world praises the powerful, the wealthy,

and the proud, while Our Lord calls blessed the meek,

the poor, and the humble. On a Christian Website

called The Guided Light, I found a modern-day version

of the Beatitudes. I thought this would be helpful to

you as you think and pray about how the Beatitudes

can become real in your life.

A Modern-Day Version of the Beatitudes

You’re blessed when you hit rock bottom, because

then you can rely on God to go to work for you.

You’re blessed when you mourn. That means you

feel compassion and empathy for others. You begin

to understand that we are all one.

You’re blessed when you are humble and authentic.

That is worth way more than fleeting power and

material possessions.

You’re blessed when you hunger and thirst after

spiritual things instead of worldly things. You will

feel full instead of empty.

You’re blessed when you express kindness. You

will receive kindness in return.

You’re blessed when you allow God’s presence and

goodness to fill your mind, heart and soul. Then

you will see God in the outside world.

You are blessed if you live in peace and create

peace. Then you will understand what it means to

be a child of God. You are fulfilling God’s dream

for world peace.

You’re blessed when people make fun of you or

ridicule you for my sake. That means you struck a

nerve. Well done! Many of my followers have

experienced this. You are in good company.

You’re blessed if you are persecuted because of

your relationship with God. God knows and sees

everything. God will reward you for your

faithfulness.

I pray that the Beatitudes of Jesus, the road map to

spiritual happiness, will guide your heart this weekend and

always.

God Bless you and your Families, Fr. Vince

Usted comienza a

amabilidad a cambio.

y siempre.

Que Dios te bendiga a ti y a tu familia, Padre Vicente

Stewardship Humility

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom

of heaven.” Matthew 5:3

This one confuses even Stewards. Replace the word “humble”

for “poor” and it makes more sense. People that are humble

recognize their dependence on God and trust that He will provide

all that they need. Unfortunately, for many of us, pride and ego

enters our lives and we think we can live without God.

Remember – God first in all circumstances.

The Heart of Mary: the Birthplace

of the Civilization of Love

The Legion of Mary dwells at the heart of the Marian Movement in

this country and in nations all over the world. Mary's love and

devotion to her Divine Son and to all of us as her daughters and

sons are the gifts that personify her place as our ultimate mother.

Help our Legion of Mary praesidium, Mother of Perpetual Help,

carry her gifts of love to all those who are lost or despairing by

becoming Active or Auxiliary (praying) members.

Because our Blessed Mother is the gateway to Jesus as our

intercessor and advocate, our praesidium offers two beautiful

pilgrim statues of Our Lady that can be brought into your homes for

veneration and special Novenas to request favors, or thanksgiving

for favors received.

To inquire about membership or having a pilgrim statue in

your home for two weeks at a time, please call Stephanie Greco

(856-346-1086) or Marge McShane (856-784-2435).

God’s Love in Action

God never intended for us to go through

difficulties alone. That is why God has brought us

together as a congregation and why we have

Stephen Ministry.
