From the Pastor’s Desk

Del Escritorio del Pastor

Dear parishioners and friends:

You Are The Salt of the Earth

In this week’s Gospel, we continue to hear

Jesus proclaim the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus

teaches: “You are the salt of the earth…you are

the light of the world…your light must shine

before others, so that they may see your good

deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.” (Mt.

5:13-16). A light brightens a darkened room and

salt gives flavor to bland food. Light and salt

have an impact. They make a difference. Jesus

is telling us today that our faith should also have

an impact and make a difference in the world, or

at least in our corner of the world as we practice

our faith in our family, workplace, school and

community. How can your faith have an impact?

The prophet Isaiah tells us in the first reading

today. Live a prayerful and merciful life. When

you feed the hungry, give clothes to the naked,

visit the sick and imprisoned, then you have an

impact on a person’s life. When you live

mercifully you are the salt and the light that Our

Lord Jesus preaches about today. We have many

opportunities at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish to

be salt and light. For example, our St. Vincent de

Paul Society, Stephen Ministry, various Prayer

Ministries, Eucharistic Ministers who visit the

sick, Faith Formation and RCIA volunteers, and

the Knights of Columbus are just a few of the

many ministries of mercy in our parish. Jesus is

calling you to be salt and light today. Our Lord

is calling you to have an impact on a person’s

life by an act of mercy. Lord Jesus, may your

light shine in us and through us this week and

always.

God Bless you and your Families, Fr. Vince

Queridos feligreses y amigos:

vuestras buenas obras y glorifiquen a vuestro Padre

celestial" (Mt. 5: 13-16). ).

y siempre.

Que Dios te bendiga a ti y a tu familia, Padre Vicente

Steward’s Light Shine

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your

good works and give glory to your Father who is in

heaven.” Matthew 5:16

The generosity of being a good Steward of your gifts has a

positive effect on people and it is contagious! Good works

encourages more good works. Let your light shine! Be

careful to recognize that God is working through you and

don’t put yourself above the people you have been called

to help.

Spiritual Life Formation / Formación Vida Espiritual

First Grade parent and author, Mr. Poulton, visited our First Grade to share his published book, A Cat

Named Haiku. He explained to the children all the hard work that goes into writing a book. His book

was made into an animated short which he shared with us. He allowed all the students to design a mask

of the main character in his book. The children were inspired to become published

authors just like Mr. Poulton!
