Dear family,

Here we are again: Holy Week! Please be sure to check the bulletin as the schedule is so different from any other week or time in the church. A reminder that in accordance with liturgical regulations, the adorations chapel will be closed at 4pm on Holy Thursday and will reopen during the Easter Vigil. Keep the this week sacred in your own homes and lives. Perhaps decide to stay away from television and give yourself extra time for silence and prayer. The world never seems to stop, but you were not created to answer to the ebb and flow of this world.

This is the week we steep ourselves in the intense and healing waters of Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection. While we focus on each moment as separate, we cannot really separate the realities of this main mystery of our faith. As some have said, you cannot have Easter Sunday without Good Friday. Christ perfectly redeems us by confronting death itself so as to give us hope for new life! And as many of our ancient Christians forbearers recognized this pattern is everywhere, for even as the seasons change, there must be some death in order to have new life. So perhaps a question is in order for us: What must we die to in order to have the life God has planned for us? Further, what are we willing to give up? As the nails pierce our Lord, let them also pierce and kill your insecurities, fears, anxieties, and attachments to all unhealthy things that prevent you from living life with Him. Let us make this Holy Week our pilgrimage with Our Lord through all He endures so as to join Him in His resurrection!

In His joy, Reverend Father Daniel J. Gutierrez
