INFANT BAPTISMS For children under 7 years of age, the sacrament is celebrated the FIRST Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm. The parents must register in the parish office at least 4 weeks prior to the baptism. Both parents and godparents are expected to attend one catechetical session in advance, on the Wednesday before the baptism, at 7:00 pm.

SACRAMENTS OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION Before being fully initiated into the sacramental life of the Church, children over the age of 7 will need catechetical prepa-ration through the RCIC process. Teenagers and adults will par-ticipate in separate RCIA processes. CONFIRMATION and COMMUNION For those already baptized, preparation for these Sacraments will take place according to the person’s age and knowledge of the Catholic Faith. For further information contact the Office of Faith Formation Program.

MARRIAGES Couples should contact the parish office at least six months in advance to make the proper ar rangements for the Sacrament of Matrimony.

PRAY FOR VOCATIONS

You are invited to pray for vocations. Parishioners will meet before our outdoor statue of Our Lady of Fatima to pray a rosary for a greater response to vocations among the faithful. The rosary will be prayed in English on Tues-days at 6:45 PM., in Spanish on Saturdays at 9:15 AM and Bilingual on the last Sunday of the month at 11:45 AM.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Dear Parishioners,

This weekend the Church celebrates the most holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). We give praise and adoration to Jesus who comes to us in Communion under the appearance of bread and wine. When we gaze at the Body of Christ we materially see bread. Bread is common food that gives strength to people around the world. When we look at the cup of the Blood of Christ we see materially wine. Wine comes from the union of many grapes. It is by the gift of faith that we are able to see beyond the material appearances and see Jesus’s sacrifice of changing the bread and wine into his Body and Blood. When we see bread materially, it reminds us of food that strengthens us physically which helps us to know that Jesus is strengthening us spiritually by giving us the loving gift of his Body. The appearance of wine not only reminds us of the union of grapes but also receiving Jesus’ Blood unites us to him that we may share his divine life. In the second Preface prayer that can be used today at Mass, we hear that we are enlightened and bonded together by the Sacrament of the Eucharist:

[Nourishing your faithful by the sacred mystery, you make them holy, so that the human race, bounded by one world, may be enlightened by one faith and united by one bond of charity.]

We need the Body of Christ in our world today and in every age. We need to be strengthened by God’s power to be enlightened to see how much God loves us. That is why he makes the sac-rifice to come to us in Holy Communion. We need to receive the Holy Eucharist so that his blood may wash us and purify us so that we may love each other with Christ’s love and be united as one Body of Christ alive with his divine Blood. We need this in our world. Our world has too much division, evil and corruption. When we come to Mass on Sundays, we come to receive Jesus in communion and be what we eat. We come to be like Christ not only within the walls of the church but also everywhere we go.

Last week, the priests of the Diocese went to a talk on racism and a prayer service for the cause of canonization of the Servant of God, Msgr. Bernard Quinn. He was a priest of our Diocese who served in a predominantly African American Parish named St. Peter Claver in Brooklyn. He start-ed a great Novena to St. Teresa, the Little Flower in which thousands of people of all races came weekly from all over to ask for favors in this novena. He was a powerful sign of saying Amen to the Body of Christ by the way he treated people of color. He believed in the love Christ has for everyone and how he wants us to love one another as people with the same God and Father.

Racism is only one evil of many that affects us in a broken world. Let us come to Jesus in the Eu-charist each Sunday so that we may grow to be more united to Christ and to have the strength to overcome sin, division and all evils that we face in life.

Transformational Leadership School Faith In New York is a community organizing federation sponsoring a Transforma-tional Leadership School for residents of Queens. This school is to serve to help develop those who are interested in being involved in advocating for important social justice issues in our communities. The cost is $150 for a five month series of classes.

The classes scheduled for Queens will be held at Our Lady of Angelus Church, 63-63 98th St, Rego Park in June and July: 6/13—In Person, 6/20—Webinar, 6/27—In Person, 7/11—Webinar, 7/18—In Person, and 7/25—In Person. DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PÁRROCO

Queridos feligreses,

Este fin de semana la Iglesia celebra el santísimo Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo (Corpus Christi). Alabamos y adoramos a Jesús que viene a nosotros en comunión bajo la apariencia de pan y vino. Cuando contemplamos el Cuerpo de Cristo, materialmente vemos pan. El pan es un alimento común que da fuerza a las personas de todo el mundo. Cuando miramos la copa de la Sangre de Cristo, vemos materialmente vino. El vino proviene de la unión de muchas uvas. Es por el don de la fe que podemos ver más allá de las apariencias materiales y ver el sacrificio de Jesús de cambiar el pan y el vino en su Cuerpo y Sangre. Cuando vemos materialmente el pan, nos recuerda la comida que nos fortalece físicamente, lo que nos ayuda a saber que Jesús nos está fortaleciendo espiritualmente al darnos el regalo amoroso de su Cuerpo. La aparición del vino no solo nos recuerda la unión de las uvas, sino que recibir la Sangre de Jesús nos une a él para que podamos compartir su vida divina. En la oración del segundo Prefacio que se puede usar hoy en la Misa, escuchamos que estamos ilu-minados y unidos por el Sacramento de la Eucaristía:

[Con este venerable sacramento, alimentas y santificas a tus fieles para que a la familia humana que habita un mismo mundo, una misma fe la illumine y un mismo amor la una.]

Necesitamos el Cuerpo de Cristo en nuestro mundo hoy y en cada época. Necesitamos ser for-talecidos por el poder de Dios para ser iluminados para ver cuánto nos ama Dios. Por eso hace el sacrificio para venir a nosotros en la Sagrada Comunión. Necesitamos recibir la Sagrada Eucaristía para que su sangre pueda lavarnos y purificarnos para que podamos amarnos con el amor de Cristo y estar unidos como un Cuerpo de Cristo vivo con su Sangre divina. Necesitamos esto en nuestro mundo. Nuestro mundo tenía demasiada división, maldad y corrupción. Cuando vamos a misa los domingos, venimos a recibir a Jesús en comunión y ser lo que comemos. Llegamos a ser como Cris-to, no solo dentro de los muros de la iglesia, sino también por todas partes que vamos.

La semana pasada, los sacerdotes de la diócesis asistieron a una charla sobre el racis-mo y un servicio de oración por la causa de la canonización del Siervo de Dios, Mons. Ber-nard Quinn. Fue sacerdote de la nuestra Diócesis y sirvió en una parroquia predominante-mente afroamericana llamada St. Peter Claverde Brooklyn . Comenzó una gran Novena a Santa Teresa, la pequeña flor en la que miles de personas de todos las razas vinieron sema-nalmente de todas partes para pedir favores en esta novena. Era un signo poderoso de decir Amen al Cuerpo de Cristo por la forma en que trataba a las personas de color. El amor que Cristo tiene para todos y que quiere que nos amemos como personas con el mismo Dios y Padre.

El racismo es solo un mal de los muchos que nos afectan en un mundo quebrantado. Acudamos a Jesús en la Eucaristía cada domingo para que podamos crecer y estar más unidos a Cristo y tener la fuerza para vencer el pecado, la división y todos los males que en-frentamos en la vida.
