STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 13 / REFLEXIÓN DE LA CORRESPONSABILIDAD PARA LA SEMANA DEL 13 DE SEPTIEMBRE“Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works.” (James 2: 18) In our Second Reading from the Letter of James we are challenged to have a living faith, a faith backed up by action. This is a concept which has been debated ever since Jesus invited us to be His disciples. Is our faith enough to save us, or must we do more? James certainly thinks we need to do more.

James is making reference to something termed by most theologians as “liv-ing faith.” That kind of faith is exemplified by being an active participant in building the Kingdom. It is more than attending Mass and praying. It is the kind of faith to which we are called through stewardship. Our faith commu-nities, our parishes, are filled with ministries and ways that we can serve and reach out to those in need. Perhaps we need to find a way to be involved in something, anything, to be an active member of our communities, a focused and participating steward.

God knows who and what we are. For some of us prayer and a complete trusting faith is most likely enough. However, James is trying to let us know that if we can, we need to look for more. We need to find ways to live out our faith as stewards of our many gifts.

For a longer reflection or more info on stewardship: http://www.thecatho-licsteward.com/

  • 24TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME / 24º DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO 3

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament has been a constant in our Diocese since 1977. Every church is asked to take a day of the month or period of time to offer adoration and to pray for an increase in vocations. I firmly believe we continue to gain new vocations because of this time the people of our diocese spend in prayer each month.

Praying in front of the Blessed Sacrament also brings blessings to the indi-vidual. Your time with Jesus is not wasted. Jesus waits for us in the Blessed Sacrament. He waits for our little acts of faith, adoration, love, thanksgiving, repentance, reparation, and charity that we can offer Him as we contemplate His Divine Majesty in the Blessed Sacrament. You will be blessed.

Here at Our Lady of Fatima our time is listed as Monday to Friday, 9am to 9pm. We also have an Adoration Chapel where exposition takes place. Some of our members maintain and sign up to spend time with Jesus during these times. They are called Adorers. They have access to a key in the Parish Office to the small tabernacle, which when opened exposes the Blessed Sacrament. At the moment we do not have enough Adorers to fill all these times. We are inviting each of you to consider praying for an hour in front of the Blessed Sacrament each week.

I am also proposing that we have one full 24 hour period on the 13th of each month in the main church. Our Mother Mary appeared to the children in Fatima, Portugal on the 13th of the month from May to October in the year 1917. We are hoping to start this on October 13. A sign-up sheet will be made available for those individuals or groups who wish to pray in this special way.

Please call the Parish Office if you want to be an Adorer.

    Thursday Night Confessions at 7pm: September 24, October 8, 22, 29

“Let us not forget: we are a pilgrim church, subject to misunderstanding, to persecution, but a church that walks serene, because it bears the force of love.” — Oscar A. RomeroToday’s gospel begins with the question of Jesus’ identity and ends with the cost of discipleship. While Peter rightly identifies Jesus as the long-awaited messiah, “the Christ,” his expectations did not match the reality. Understanding who Jesus is has profound ramifications for his followers, then and now. Like Peter we must open our eyes and hearts – to look beyond the suffering that discipleship may bring us to the new life that is promised.

◆ What “cross” are you being asked to carry in the name of Christ?

◆ How might this lead to new life?

Take a moment to revisit this Sunday’s readings [Is 50:5-9; Jas 2:14-18; Mk 8:27-35] or view them online at http://usccb.org/bible/read-ings/091315.cfm

    OLF PARISH SCHOOL NEWS

Congratulations to Our Lady of Fatima Parish School!Fifty years ago, the Religious Sisters of Charity founded our school as a primary elementary school for grades one through four. Four religious sisters and one lay teacher staffed the school. Each year a new grade level was added so that by 1969 the school had students enrolled through eighth grade. The school remained under the administration of the Sisters of Charity until 1989. Among the many gifts the sisters brought with them when they established their school were a reverence for the whole of creation, a respect for the cultures and traditions of every race and nation, a commitment to move them-selves and others beyond fear and prejudice, a passion to serve the poor, and a generous willingness to respond to the needs and times of the places to which they were assigned. These charisms have left an indelible mark on two genera-tions of parents, students and teachers and have influenced the formulation of the school’s mission, philosophy and student learning expectations.

OLF Parish School Celebrates 50 years on October 4If you are, or happen to know, an alumni of OLF Parish School or are a mem-ber of the parish, we would love for you join with us to celebrate our Golden Anniversary on October 4, beginning with the 9am Mass celebrated by Bishop Vann.
