Take a new look at the Mass

“Mass is the same every week. I don’t always get something out of going.” Sound familiar? A ritual we know so well can seem predictable or even routine. Consider these gifts you get from attending Mass: Open your mind to something new. Within the Mass are lots of intriguing, mysterious, or just plain interesting ideas. Listen during the Scripture readings, the homily, or the Eucharistic prayer for something that strikes you and talk with God about it. He’ll help open your mind to something new. Help others without leaving your seat. We all know people near and far we would like to help. Distances and barriers disap-pear at Mass. When Jesus becomes present in the Eucharist, the entire Body of Christ is present. So you can pray for anyone you would like to support and the entire Body prays with you. Make a change. Find at least one idea within the Mass that makes sense and seems possible and put it into practice. One new idea can change your life.

Mensaje De Nuestro Pastor

"¿Dónde estás?". Dios llama a Adán y Eva.

¡Y no tenga miedo! Junio es un mes tan hermoso. ¡Espero que encuentre muchas formas de disfrutarlo!

From the Pastor’s Desk

“Where are you?” God calls out to Adam and Eve. I

love the book of Genesis. We are invited by the Church today to read this third chapter where Adam and Eve have sinned and God is looking for them but they were afraid because they were naked and so they hid from Him. I have a similar story of my own when I knew that I did something wrong and so I hid be-hind the stairs on the first floor of my building. Here’s what happened. I was about eight or nine years old and I was playing with my friend Vinnie in from of our building, 2312 Loring Place. A neighbor of ours pulled up in his taxi to stop to go into his apartment for a few minutes. My friend, looking at the double parked car, told me that there were really good base-ball cards in the front seat of the car and that I should check them out. So, I decided to check out the situation. I entered the driver’s side and forgot all about what I was looking for. In-stead, I was enjoying pretending that I was driving this car in a race. Somehow or other, while I was having so much fun, I put the gear into drive and down the steep hill of Loring Place I went. Still having fun, not realizing the danger. I managed to steer the car onto the sidewalk sending people running for their lives. I finally crashed into the stoop of building down the block. It was at this point that I realized that I did something really wrong. So I quickly ran behind the stairwell in my build-ing. An army of people including my distraught parents where looking for me, calling out, “Thomas, where are you?” Just like Adam and Eve, I was too scared to come forward. A nice neigh-bor eventually found me and brought me to my parents who up-on seeing that I was perfectly okay, then wanted to kill me! That question from God we find in our first reading seems to me to be a foundational and important question that we ought to hear at any given point in our lives. “Where are you?” And when God asks that question of us, we can follow Jesus’ invita-tion not to be afraid. God asks “where are you?” throughout our lives to remind us of His abiding presence and unconditional love. It’s a great question for reflecting on our lives, where we have been, what we are doing and where we are going. It’s a great question in preparing for the sacrament of reconciliation. Indeed, next time you go to confession, allow yourselves to hear God say, “where are you?” and then ponder the ways you have felt away from God. And do not be afraid! June is such a beautiful month. I hope you find many ways to enjoy it!

TENTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

Mindfulness When we make efforts to be fully aware and awake to every-thing we do and all that surrounds us, we become mindful of God’s gifts and the grace available to us. “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth” (Colossians 3:2). This takes practice, joyful effort, and discipline. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the rmament proclaims the works of his hands. Psalm 19:3

Salmo 19:2
