Subdivision Head for the Pacific Division's Sidney operations. This assignment provided mewith the opportunity to exercise and develop my management skills in a work unit with vastlydistinct technical expertise from my own background (earth sciences veÍsus forest science), tolead delivery of a national program (-43 FTEs and a budget of -$700K) in natural geohazards

managed in a matrix environment, to provide strategic input on several Divisional and Sectorfiles, and to become better acquainted with the roles and responsibilities of the Earth ScienceSector of Natural Resources Canada. During this time I worked to engage the subdivision's -40research and technical staff in the regional delivery of a broad spectrum of programs, andtransferred some 'best practices' from CFS to ESS, which resulted in enhanced and moreeffective communication and improved regional Health and Safety practices. I also introduced anexpanded set of tools for Section Head's and Project Leader's to employ to improve teambuilding. Through these initiatives, I supported the effective implementation of the newSubdivision and Project Leadership structures. This assignment also offered me opportunities forinput into a number of sectoral f,rles including the Transition File for the New Minister (post therecent federal election) and the review of the Public Safety Geoscience Program (developed

some important recommendations to improve its stategic effectiveness) and to meet and engage

with senior managers in the Earth Science Sector on a range of sectoral files.

Employer: British Columbia Forest Service, Protection BranchFunction: As Deputy to the Director of Protection and Manager, Fire Management, I led aPolicy, Compliance and Enforcement Working Group (7 staff working in a matrix environmentcomprised of my direct reports from headquarters and staff from 6 regional centres) which built a

new collaborative govemmenlforest industry working group that fostered working relationships

to improve public policy, legislation (BC Wildfire Act and regulation), and industry guidance

related to fire and forest management. I was responsible for executive and ministerial briefings(written and verbal) related to program policy and strategies, and supported the Minister in the

legislature for Bill amendments related to BC's Wildfire Act and regulation. I regularly advised

senior executive (Operation Executive, ADM and DM) within the Ministry of Forest and Range

of operational, policy and strategic initiatives on behalf of the Branch.

As Manager, Fire Management, I was the lead for a number of cross government working groups

representing the province of British Columbia for a number of strategic initiatives whichincluded senior officials from various jurisdictions for the: MPB Strategy (Branch Lead), BC'sEnergy Strategy (Branch Lead), the Air Action Plan (acted as ADM committee member forOperation's Division of the Ministry of Forests and Range); and, the Future Forest Ecosystems
