E vangelism is Right! I showed in last weeks arcle that some think evangelism is wrong. It is our culture (not the Bible) that makes them think that way. Evangelism is spreading the good news of the redempon that God has accomplished in Jesuscrucifixion and resurrecon. If Scripture says that is the only foundaon by which we can be saved from this evil age, then telling others about it should be automac. Our culture today wants everyone to be inclusive. Our culture claims that no one can preach a superior religion or belief that others MUST believe. So we must accept and approve ALL faiths and ALL religions. The Roman Empire mindset in the first century was very much in that same mode. Most folks accepted a pantheon of gods that could be amended and added to with relave ease. The very pinnacle of this mindset is seen in Paul addressing the Athenians in Acts 17:22-34. Paul shows us their willingness to add new gods when he points out their altar entled to an unknown god. They believed that other gods could and do exist. This altar demonstrates that they didnt want to offend that god for their lack of knowledge. Paul, though, says he wants to point them to that unknown godas the God he preaches. Pauls God supersedes all other gods. He is superior and must be worshipped as their only God. They must abandon ALL their gods and believe exclusively in Pauls God. This proclamaon of a superior God didnt go over quite as well in Athens as in other places (Acts 17:32- 34). The response was meager. We are in a culture today that doesnt want to hear of a superior faith, religion, or god. Everyone wants the freedom to believe in their own pathway. But we proclaim a faith that is superior to their way as the REAL good news. - Bob - Elders: Mike Carter 357-7672 Gene Newton 430-5027 Preacher: Robert Bliss•638-5216•blissfl@gmail.com Youth: Deacon: Max Thomas•205-1800 Church Office: Judy Langgood 383-2048•Mon-Fri 9am-Noon Worship Coordinator March: Steve Watson Communion Prep/ March: Jim & Iris Liles Greeters This Week: Judy Langgood & Ken Zackery Greeters Next Week: Carol Kessinger & Evelyn Rider ____________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ NOTES How Do I Become A Member Of The Lords Church? • E vangelism is Right!

I showed in last week’s article that some think evangelism is wrong. It is our culture (not the Bible) that makes them think that way. Evangelism is spreading the good news of the redemption that God has accomplished in Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. If Scripture says that is the only foundation

by which we can be saved from this evil age, then telling others about it should be automatic.

Our culture today wants everyone to be inclusive. Our culture claims that no one can preach a superior religion or belief that others MUST believe. So we must accept and approve ALL faiths and ALL religions. The Roman Empire mindset in the first century was very much in that same mode. Most folks accepted a pantheon of gods that could be amended and added to with relative ease. The very pinnacle of this mindset is seen in Paul addressing the Athenians in Acts 17:22-34. Paul shows us their willingness to add new gods when he points out their altar entitled “to an unknown god.” They believed that other gods could and do exist. This altar demonstrates that they didn’t want to offend that god for their lack of knowledge. Paul, though, says he wants to point them to that “unknown god” as the God he preaches. Paul’s God supersedes all other gods. He is superior and must be worshipped as their only God. They must abandon ALL their gods and believe exclusively in Paul’s God. This proclamation of a superior God didn’t go over quite as well in Athens as in other places (Acts 17:32-34). The response was meager.

We are in a culture today that doesn’t want to hear of a superior faith, religion, or god. Everyone wants the freedom to believe in their own pathway. But we proclaim a faith that is superior to their way as the REAL good news. - Bob -
