13 th January 2017 Dear parents Happy new year to everyone! I hope everyone has had restful breaks and that the year has started positively. The weather appears to be getting colder with some snow – please remember we will text you by 8am and post on our website should the school need to close; if you hear nothing assume school is open! Please ensure the school has your updated details to ensure you receive this information. As the new term has started I have been completely overwhelmed by the high quality homework which the children have been bringing in to school! As parents are aware, we are trialling a new format for homework and the first couple of weeks seem to have been very positive! I will be gathering children’s thoughts, through the School Council, on these changes, during the term. Our Year 2 children went to the cinema this week for their WOW opening to their topic on Roald Dahl and I have enjoyed watching the volcanoes the Year 6 children have made erupting, as a WOW for their Natural Disasters topic. Our focus on reading continues this term and we have now completed all the parent workshops regarding the year group texts. As ever, we are really grateful for your support! K.Hooker Years 1-3 Flu vaccination I have been contacted by Boots who are concerned regarding the low uptake of the flu vaccination in our school. I have shared my thoughts on this and have received some interesting leaflets – which I have added to the school’s website. One of these leaflets notes the key benefits of the vaccination, which are: The nasal spray helps protect against flu, has been given to millions of children worldwide and has an excellent safety record The nasal spray is painless and easy to have Flu can be really serious, especially for children with medical conditions like heart disease and diabetes If your child gets flu you may have to take time off to look after them Protecting your child can stop flu spreading to other children and the family, especially babies and grandparents, who may be at higher risk from flu. One of the main issues, I believe, is that the vaccination contains porcine gelatine, which is derived from pork. I have added a leaflet to the website which discusses this issue and may be of interest to parents. If you would like to get your child vaccinated, there is still time to make an appointment at Boots, 82-86 The Mall (01582 720592). The last day for vaccinations is Saturday 28 th January.

Dear parents

Happy new year to everyone!

Years 1-3 Flu vaccination

I have been contacted by Boots who are concerned regarding the low uptake of the flu vaccination in our school. I have shared my thoughts on this and have received some interesting leaflets – which I have added to the school’s website. One of these leaflets notes the key benefits of the vaccination, which are:

• The nasal spray helps protect against flu, has been given to millions of children worldwide and has an excellent safety record

• The nasal spray is painless and easy to have • Flu can be really serious, especially for children with medical conditions like heart disease

and diabetes • If your child gets flu you may have to take time off to look after them • Protecting your child can stop flu spreading to other children and the family, especially

babies and grandparents, who may be at higher risk from flu. The last day for vaccinations is Saturday 28th January.
