Accommodations for ELLs
• Designed to enable students to overcome linguistic and cultural barriers that hinder their demonstration of academic achievment.
Appropriate and Effective Accommodations Based on Language Proficiency
• Native language accommodations are most effective for students at beginning or emerging levels of English proficiency.
• Students at an intermediate level of English proficiency will benefit from a wider range of written and oral accommodations.

• We must not assess what we do not teach!• An accommodation with which a student has
had no experience is not an accommodation, but rather a hindrance!
