Development Cycle consisted of 6 different phases

1. Development Phase (March 10, 2011 – December 12, 2012) 2. Feature Completion Phase (December 12, 2012 – February 18, 2013)3. Clean-up Phase ( February 18, 2013 – July 1, 2013)4. API Completion Phase ( July 1, 2013 – October 1, 2014)5. Beta Phase ( October 1, 2014 – October 7, 2015)6. RC Phase ( October 7, 2015 – November 19, 2015)

Drupal 7 was released on January 5th 2011 And it took 5 years from that to official D8 release Dries and other core contributors have put in highest amount of efforts for this

Drupal 8.0.0 was released on 19th November 2015

Drupal 8 is built by unprecedented efforts of 3290 contributors & 1228 companies

It definitely calls for a celebration!

Which led to more than 200 release parties all around the globe!

We fell in love with D8, the moment we started working with it

Of course there were challenges initially, but they make for a great learning experience

Developers chose to build test sites with beta releases in order to test the new features and APIs

The biggest challenge was lack of resources during beta phase to learn about D8

But we managed to get past that just fine

Until now we have delivered couple of D8 websites

One of them is a simple one page personal portfolio website(Can’t provide details about others due to confidentiality clause)

TWIG theming engine is the best part about it. And D8 requires more unified and simpler APIs to add power

Core is so strong with D8 that no contrib module was required

It was much easier to move configuration changes between environments

IS THIS THE RIGHT TIME TO MOVE TO D8?

Yes it is

D8 is definitely a good news for everyone associated with Drupal

Website building is much faster than previous versions

It’s easier to learn D8 via variety of sources

Upgrading to Drupal module is much easier with “Drupal Module Upgrader”

Drupal 8 is 100% multilingual

in the 90 days following the release of Drupal 8.0.0, adoption has outpaced Drupal 7 by more than 200 percent
