A Message from Dr. Anthony Brown, President
When I was younger I used to hear the caution, “don’t bite off more than you can chew.” In talking
with friends last week I acknowledged what I had been feeling on the inside – “this year I had tried
to do too much.” What’s been happening?
We announced the establishment of the Mark Edward Griffin Scholarship in 2018 and this
year, working with Mark’s wife Sonja and a dedicated team of persons from Baltimore and
Atlanta, the vision became a reality when we awarded two scholarships under this
designation. I actually had the honor of travelling to Atlanta to celebrate with the scholars
and do a formal presentation before an audience of some 7,000 persons at the New Birth
Missionary Baptist Church. It was amazing.
We solidified an endowed scholarship in the name of the Dream 4 It Foundation at Towson
University - my alma-mater. Several years ago our Board began “talking legacy” and how we could do something
that lasts beyond “now.” We did it. The endowed scholarship will impact generations when it is fully established
by 2023. We will begin awarding scholarships to Towson students as a part of this initiative in 2020.
Our application to be a part of the Federal Government’s Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) was approved.
Through the Campaign, current federal employees, annuitants (retirees), military personnel and federal government
contractors can now help us inspire young people to dream by giving a donation to the Dream 4 It Foundation
through the CFC. Our designation number is 12538. Our Foundation listing will appear in the 2019 campaign that
will kick-off this September.
We maintained connections with our scholars through events and personal contacts – celebrating their personnel
and professional successes, strengthened our Board with the addition of new members, worked consistently to
maintain and develop mutually beneficial partnerships across the region and, remained consistent in our efforts to
raise critical funding which allows us to support the dreams of young people.
The charge was not mine alone. I would like to thank my wife, Sheri, and my daughter, Shamara for their tremendous
support. Also, a sincere thank you to our Board members which include my wife and daughter, along with John A. Agro,
Jr., Maria Wesley, Gloria Hinson, Mike Rothenheber, Gloria Thornton and Kathleen Zwobot. Our newest members are
Darrell Mobley, Charon Simms and Carl Williams. A special thank you to Marty and Karen Brown – who continue to
stand with the Foundation – financially and professionally. Vanessa Jones continued her management of our social media
presence. This year, the Foundation’s 12-year giving total will reach $161,000.00. This is a reflection of your support and
the dedicated work of our Board Members.
We want you to leave tonight inspired and encouraged. Congratulations to our scholarship recipients! I look forward to
seeing the difference you will make as you move ahead in life. I applaud our honorees who have committed so much of
their lives to inspiring others. I would also like to thank all of our sponsors, who are so instrumental in helping us navigate
young persons toward their dreams.
Once again we received Legacy Donations in honor of Mr. Reginald Combs and Deacon Michael Randall. Craig, Carl and
Lisa Combs – along with Tina Randall – are pillars whose financial support and encouragement has allowed the Dream 4 It
Foundation to establish a legacy of giving and inspiration. This year we also welcomed a new partnership with Jaqueline
and Chuckie McGuire who have committed an annual gift to support an HBCU scholar. Additional appreciation goes to
Sonja D. Griffin and the Mark Edward Griffin Scholarship Committee Team which includes Wayne and Arnita Howard,
Angela Williams, Leah Howard, Edwin Blake and Cynthia Quinn.
The theme for this year’s event is DUETS and I’ve called on some of my friends to help me “set the night to music.”
Baltimore’s own A1 Chops – street drummers who have gained international recognition after being discovered by Ellen
DeGeneres, are also with us tonight. Who says “there’s nothing good coming out of Baltimore?” And, leading the music
journey is our musical director, previous Dream Scholar, Tyrone A. Parker, II. Tyrone is a gifted musician, producer, and
audio engineer who is creating a legacy of giving, professionalism and inspiration as he heads his own Foundation and
makes continual strides in the entertainment industry.
And by the way – regarding my opening reflection regarding “whether I had bitten off more than I can chew.” I have done
“all things with the strength of God.” To Him be all the glory and additional thanks to my prayer partners, Ministers Shawn
Freeman and Minister Vanilla Jackson and, my trainer and “listening ear,” Andre Watson.
The Players – Tyrone A, Parker, II – Musical Director/Drums, Johnnie Miller – Keyboards, Michael “Skipp” Williams, – Keyboards,
James “Drummaboy” Harris – Keyboards, Tim Andrews - Bass, Izzy Lemons – Guitar, James Quinn – Percussion, Isaac Parham –
Saxophone, Background Singers – Micah Smith – Vocal Director, Travina Jefferson and Jhanae Bowden.
Special Appearance by Dream Scholar Desmond Oliver.
Our Foundation can DREAM because of your help. Will you support us? Dream Circle Sponsors commit
a regular monthly or annual donation to the Foundation. Our Legacy Donations continue to grow as
persons memorialize their loved one by encouraging donations to the Foundation in the name/memory of
their friend or family member. A donation envelope is included in this program booklet. You can also
donate online at dream4it.net or reach us through Cash App at $Dream4it. Envelopes can be placed at the
Dr. Anthony Brown Product Table. Like our Facebook page and stay connected to our website or, call
443-472-3311 for more information. Be blessed!
Earlier this month we traveled to Atlanta to present the
first-ever Mark Edward Griffin Scholarships. The
Scholars and Atlanta Coordination Team are shown in
the photos. In the inset photo, Pastor Jamal Bryant is
included. We were welcomed to New Birth Missionary
Baptist Church for a formal scholarship presentation.
Mark was a faithful member of New Birth.

state to help develop strategies to end violence in various forms, such as community violence and
human trafficking. In this role, Brandon also worked on the MD Governor’s Commission on
Suicide Prevention as well as organized the annual Suicide Prevention Conference. Currently, he
serves as a Public Health Advisor in the Suicide Prevention Branch at the U.S. Dept. of Health
and Human Services. In this role, Brandon serves as a Government Project Officer (GPO) for
various suicide prevention grant programs that respectively target youth, adults, and health care
systems. Brandon is also the GPO for the Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) which provides suicide-specific materials,
webinars, and training to organizations and communities all over the country working to prevent suicides. Another highlight of
Brandon’s career is his current role as the Co-Lead of the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention’s Faith Communities Task
Force. The group works with faith communities all over the nation to equip them with tools and resources to combat the often stigmatized
issue of suicide.

responsibilities include planning, development, and evaluation of existing and new initiatives that will

Cindy R. Williams answered what she calls a divine call from GOD! Williams left law school and embarked
on a journey to provide wholeness to families that were broken, due to life’s challenges. During 1999, Loving
Arms, Inc., a 501 (c) 3, private not for profit Charity was founded. Loving Arms, Inc. serves runaway,
homeless and unstable housed youth and young adults. In 2013, the organization expanded its work to include
working with victims of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking (DMST).
Loving Arms works with youth and young adults, between the age of 12 and 24 operates programs in
Maryland, South Carolina and New York. The agencies primary goal is to help individuals and families
become whole, which looks different for every individual and family. Through Loving Arms’ Emergency
Shelter, Outreach and Transitional Living Programs, provisions are made to address the basic needs of youth,
which includes food, shelter and clothing, and in cases where it's appropriate, to work with them and their
family to strengthen and reestablish relationships, in hopes of reunifying them with their family. In cases, where
reunification is not possible we help youth and young adults secure a stable, nurturing and secure living environment. In addition to
food, shelter, and clothing youth receive medical, mental health, educational, counseling and other support services. Loving Arms also
provides daily living and independent living skills, when appropriate, that includes workforce development, job readiness training, and
financial literacy, assistance with securing entitlements, transportation and assistance with job placement. These services are also offered
to their family members as well, currently at No charge.
On any given day, it is estimated that there are over 1400 homeless youth and young adults in Baltimore City and maybe thousands
throughout the state. Ms. Williams through Loving Arms provides the only Basic Center Emergency Shelter
that specifically serves non-system runaway and homeless youth, in the entire state of Maryland and the
only center in Florence, South Carolina as well, that addresses this need.

The Jordan McNair Foundation was established in June
2018 by Tonya Wilson & Martin “Marty” McNair
following the death of their beloved son Jordan Martin McNair, an offensive lineman
for the University of Maryland. Jordan’s untimely death was the result of a heatstroke
he suffered during an organized offseason team workout. Jordan’s death spurred into
action the need to create a Foundation that would educate student athletes, parents, and
the football community at large on the signs and symptoms of heatstroke and heat-
related illnesses. With the right information, students and all involved in the athletic
community can make informed decisions regarding the health and safety of all athletes.
One life lost is one life too many and the Jordan McNair Foundation aims to reduce the occurrence of heatstroke and heat-related
illnesses in student athletes. The mission of “The Jordan McNair Foundation” as a non-profit organization is to promote awareness,
educate, and advocate for parents and student athletes about heat related illness at the youth, high school, and collegiate levels.
Although Jordan’s life was
short, Mr. McNair is proud
that, “Jordan fulfilled
many of his dreams and
accomplished everything
he set out to do.”
Tonya’s biggest
accomplishment in her life
is that she “raised a
wonderful, successful
human being that one day
would make a mark in the
world. Jordan’s mark is
being made”
