The United States of America
•The US is the #2 top ranked in C02 emission in the world. Using an estimated 5,762,050 tons a year
• It alone is responsible for 25.2% of the worldwide emission total.
•This equals a per capita total of 19.48 tons.
Changes – Why, Who, What, Where and When Changes should / could be made
In order to make conservation more widespread we, as a society, could :
•Create incentives for people to use energy efficient appliances.
•Make public transportation more appealing
•Teach the younger generations fun and easy ways to conserve.
Proposal for PersonalAs individuals need to get in the habit of:• Taking public
transportation• Turning off lights as
we leave a room• Layering our clothes
instead of turning on the heat
• Using energy efficient appliances
• And turning off our computers when we aren’t using them.
Proposal for Change in the US
• Traveling
– Walk or ride a bike when traveling short distances.
– Keep motor vehicle’s tire pressure to the correct amount.
– Move closer to our jobs or work closer to our homes.
– Take public transportation when possible.
– Drive less or not at all if possible.
– Plan out our daily errands, so we travel less.
Proposal for Change for US• Practices at Home
– Move our thermostats down 2 degrees in the winter and up 2 degrees in the summer.• Saves about 2,000 pounds of CO2 per year.
– Replace regular incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs.• CFLs use 60% less energy than regular light bulbs. Saves 300 pounds of CO2 per year.
– Turn off all appliances or lights when we are not using them.• Saves thousands of pounds of CO2 per year.
• Insulate and weatherize our homes.– Proper insulation can save 25% of our heating bill and save 2,000 pounds of CO2 per
year– Buy Locally grown and produced foods
• US average meal travels 1,200 miles from the farms to our plates
Summary Conclusion
• Carbon emissions produced by human practices have a negative effect on our planet.
• The U.S. is ranked #2 for producing Carbon emissions.
• U.S. Negatively contributes 25.2% of the world Emission total.
• Even if eco-friendly products cost a little more, it’s a better investment for future sustainability rather than short term low costs
• LETS START BEING MORE EFFICIENT TODAY!
