SKF in Malaysia has been sponsoring the winning school of SKF ‘Meet the World’ tournamentheld in Negeri Sembilan to play in the Gothia Cup since 2007.

SMK Dato’s Abdul Samad, 2018 champion of the qualifying tournament to the Gothia Cup.

Meet the World is SKF’s largest CSR ( Corporate Social Responsibility) project whereby localSKF companies host football tournaments. It is also the qualifying tournament for the GothiaCup. So far, SKF has given the opportunity to 3700 children in 42 countries to travel to Swedento be part of the annual celebration of youth and soccer.

SKF is the main partner and sponsor of the Gothia Cup. This one-week tournament takes placein Gothenburg, Sweden in July every year. The tournament has been going on for some 30years and every year it attracts around 1700 teams from 80 nations around the world.

This year, SMK Dato’ Abdul Samad team represented the nation playing amongst 195 teamacross 35 nations in the Boys Under 14 category.

SMK Dato’ Abdul Samad showed true sportsmanship spirit throughout the 5 matches that theyplayed and scored a total of 9 goals!

Nothing can stop them from winning as they played against the Swedish, British and theMexicans. They however lost to the Bulgarians in the 2nd knockout stage (1/32 final) with thescore of 0-3. The same team, SKF Bulgaria played in the finals with Lizzy Football Club fromGhana and Lizzy FC emerged as the Champion for Boys Under 14 in the Gothia Cup this year.

SMK Dato’ Abdul Samad coach, Abdul Hamid bin Mukdan said ‘We came here determined togive our very best. This is the first time our school won the SKF ‘Meet the World’ and therefore,as champions we were given the opportunity to play football in an international arenarepresenting SKF and Malaysia. We feel extremely proud that our boys made it this far thisyear!”

March 2018, SMK Dato’ Abdul Samad was given the chance to travel to Gothenburg and to bepart of the world’s largest youth football tournament. The aim of Gothia Cup is to create ameeting place for young people regardless of gender, social background, culture, skin colour orreligion.

We are extremely proud of what they achieved at this prestigious tournament. We hope thisfantastic experience and achievement will be a great motivator to help them excel as highperformance athlete for the nation in the future.” he added.
