THE THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER Morning Worship – 9:30 a.m.

April 26, 2020

Silent prayer for use in preparation for worship:

Teach us, Lord, to serve You as You deserve, to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not

to seek for rest, to labour and not to ask for any reward save that of knowing we do Your will, Amen.

A prayer of Ignatius Loyola, 1491-1556, Founder of the Jesuit Order

PRELUDE “Gigue” Fugue BWV 577 J.S. Bach *CALL TO WORSHIP (from Revelation 5:11-13)

Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they sang:

"WORTHY IS THE LAMB, WHO WAS SLAIN, TO RECEIVE POWER AND WEALTH AND WISDOM AND STRENGTH AND HONOR AND GLORY AND PRAISE!"

Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing:

"TO HIM WHO SITS ON THE THRONE AND TO THE LAMB BE PRAISE AND HONOR AND GLORY AND POWER, FOR EVER AND EVER!"

*+HYMN Alleluia! Alleluia! PRAYER OF CONFESSION (first silently, then in unison):

O GOD, THE HOLY SPIRIT, MOST LOVING COMFORTER, WE PRAY YOU WILL TURN WHAT IS EVIL IN US INTO GOOD, AND WHATEVER IS GOOD INTO WHAT IS BETTER. BY YOUR CONVICTING POWER WE SEEK FORGIVENESS THROUGH CHRIST. TURN OUR MOURNING INTO JOY, OUR WANDERING FEET INTO THE RIGHT PATH, OUR IGNORANCE INTO KNOWLEDGE OF TRUTH, OUR LUKEWARMNESS INTO ZEAL, OUR FEAR INTO LOVE, OUR MATERIAL GOODS INTO SPIRITUAL GIFTS, AND ALL THAT IS TRANSIENT INTO WHAT LASTS FOREVER, THAT EVERYTHING CREATED AND FINITE IN US MIGHT BE USED FOR IMMEASURABLE GOOD, WHICH YOU YOURSELF ARE, O GOD, OUR SAVIOR, AMEN.

(a prayer of Thomas a Kempis, 1380-1471)

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

JESUS CHRIST IS THE IMAGE OF THE INVISIBLE GOD, THE FIRSTBORN OVER ALL CREATION. FOR BY HIM ALL THINGS WERE CREATED: THINGS IN HEAVEN AND ON

EARTH, VISIBLE AND INVISIBLE, WHETHER THRONES OR DOMINIONS OR RULERS OR AUTHORITIES; ALL THINGS WERE CREATED THROUGH HIM AND FOR HIM. HE IS

BEFORE ALL THINGS, AND IN HIM ALL THINGS HOLD TOGETHER. AND HE IS THE HEAD OF THE BODY, THE CHURCH; HE IS THE BEGINNING AND THE FIRSTBORN FROM THE DEAD, SO THAT IN EVERYTHING HE MIGHT HAVE THE SUPREMACY. FOR IN HIM ALL

THE FULLNESS OF GOD WAS PLEASED TO DWELL, AND THROUGH HIM TO RECONCILE TO HIMSELF ALL THINGS, WHETHER THINGS ON EARTH OR THINGS IN HEAVEN, BY

MAKING PEACE THROUGH THE BLOOD OF HIS CROSS. AMEN. INTERCESSORY PRAYERS

Psalm 116: 1-4, 12-19

I love the LORD, for He heard my voice; He heard my cry for mercy.

BECAUSE HE TURNED HIS EAR TO ME, I WILL CALL ON HIM AS LONG AS I LIVE.

The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came upon me; I was overcome by trouble and sorrow.

THEN I CALLED ON THE NAME OF THE LORD: “LORD, SAVE ME!”

How can I repay the LORD for all His goodness to me?

I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD.

I WILL FULFILL MY VOWS TO THE LORD IN THE PRESENCE OF ALL HIS PEOPLE.

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.

O LORD, TRULY I AM YOUR SERVANT, THE SON OF YOUR MAIDSERVANT; YOU HAVE FREED ME FROM MY CHAINS.

I will sacrifice a thank offering to You and call on the name of the LORD.

I WILL FULFILL MY VOWS TO THE LORD IN THE PRESENCE OF ALL HIS PEOPLE,

IN THE COURTS OF THE HOUSE OF THE LORD – IN YOUR MIDST, O JERUSALEM. PRAISE THE LORD.

GREENWOOD COMMUNITY CHURCH, PRESBYTERIAN Warwick, Rhode Island

April 26, 2020

WE WELCOME ALL who are worshipping with us today via this online Service of Worship, which, again, is relatively new and uncharted territory for us. We continue to make technical adjustments which may help with the occasional “buffering” pauses and other glitches; also, the service will be

archived and posted @ twenty minutes after the live stream and will be available for ONE WEEK for you to watch at your leisure and without

buffering interruption. A special word of welcome is extended to any who are visiting with us on line this morning…whether you are visiting us for this

hour or looking for a new church home, welcome to our fellowship. During the offering we will again be dedicating tithes and offerings we have received via mail; THANK YOU to all who have remained constant in your financial support of the Greenwood Community Church during this time of economic hardship for many of you AND when we are unable to meet together as a congregation. Some have given by utilizing “Bill Pay” options offered by most banks, others have mailed or dropped off donations to the church office, and finally the option for on line giving via a service provided by the Presbyterian Foundation is up and running. A summary of instructions and answers to frequent questions can be found by clicking the link below the “Give Now” icon on the www.gccp.org home page..

We will continue the Wednesday Night Hymn Sing via Facebook April 29, 7:00 PM, and will live stream worship next Sunday, May 3, 9:30 A.M.

Flowers Today are given to the glory of God by Bill Taylor, in loving memory of his mother, Ruby Taylor, and by Debra Stacey, in loving memory of her dear friend, Karen Cafferty Rogers, who is celebrating her second birthday in heaven.

THE MISSION COMMITTEE would like to thank everyone who responded to the call to help others around the world by supporting One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS). Gifts to OGHS will be accepted through today for those who would still like to respond. Please use the OGHS offering envelopes in your box of offering envelopes OR use the online option; this special offering will be dedicated next Sunday during worship. Thank you!

OUR ANNUAL LENTEN COIN DRIVE to benefit HEIFER INTERNATIONAL was interrupted by the current restrictions.

During the Sundays in Lent we normally collect coins for this worthwhile mission; funds raised through this offering enables the Sunday School to purchase domestic animals for impoverished families worldwide. The purchase of these animals help feed families as well as

generate income for them through the sale of eggs, cheese, milk, wool and other animal byproducts. We were able to collect PENNIES March 1, NICKELS March 8, attendance dropped March 15 (although we still collected some DIMES!), then we were compelled to close public worship before we had the Sundays for QUARTERS and DOLLARS. PLEASE CONSIDER BRINGING/SENDING YOUR HEIFER COINS & DOLLARS (or a check equivalent of the value) TO THE CHURCH OFFICE during the next week so we may dedicate this offering next Sunday along with the OGHS offering. THANK YOU!
