Here at the English Sofa Company we are dedicated to producing timeless upholstered chairs and sofas, crafted from premium European leathers and superior modern fabrics. Situated in the North of England, the company has a long and proud history. We operate as a family run business, employing skilled local craftsmen trained in both traditional and modern upholstery techniques and having one clear aim:’Producing beautifully designed and upholstered furniture.’

By utilising the resources of local suppliers and operating our in-house recycling facilities we proactively work at reducing our carbon footprint. We only craft from solid beech obtained from sustainable sources and ibre interiors are manufactured from recycled plastic. The company supports environmental and green policies, and is committed to planting new trees, one for each of our customers.

PenhurstThe deep buttoned back and arms relect the inluence of the Chesterield design on the reined Penhurst range. The gently rolled back and sides mean that the Penhurst has all the cultivation you’d expect from a Chesterield but less of the formality. The result is an elegant fabric sofa that would add a degree of inesse to any living room.

The Penhurst is shown with a plain seat, but is also available with a buttoned or cushioned seat, made to individual preferences.

The Trafalgar fabric sofa range has thin square arms making it ideal for smaller spaces. This small contemporary fabric sofa comes with piped, foam and ibre cushions as standard and sits on dark wooden bun feet. Sofa BedsA sofa bed is a practical addition to any home and available in many of our designs. Our contemporary range of beds are manufactured with a solid metal two fold frame and a combination of wooden slats and webbing. A 12cm sprung mattress is also supplied as standard.Sofa beds are available in a 2.5 seater, 3 seater or a 3.5 seater sofa bed, as well as corner sofas, as shown below.

Selected models from our Vintage Chesterield range can also bemanufactured as sofa beds. Chesterield sofa beds are supplied with a 3 fold metal frame featuring a webbed base and 8cm thick foam mattress.

The frame-making, upholstery and hand inishing processes employ centuries old skills and practices, preserving the unique authenticity of historic methods and designs.

Leather The Leather collection is made up of timelessly crafted leather pieces meticulously handmade in a lengthy process involving weeks of individual care and attention. Our leathers are chosen from only the top 5% of hides available. This careful selection ensures not only a high standard of inish, but also a natural beauty and integrity associated with quality produced upholstery. We believe the best looking sofas are created using leathers that are tanned to fully realise the inherent character and integrity of the hide and we avoid using lower quality coloured leathers whose natural characteristics tend to have been obscured in the manufacturing process. Thus enabling the production of individual pieces of ine English furniture.

Antique LeatherCorrected Grain leather hand rubbed to give the unique two tone inish traditionally seen on Chesterield suites. Available in Blue, Green, Red, Tan and Brown this is a classic hard-wearing leather that has been loved for generations.

Full Grain LeatherEncompassing a range of semi-corrected leathers and corrected grain leathers. Corrected Grain leathers have a uniform texture making them ideal for those looking for a block colour such as black or white or for those sofas which are likely to suffer the most wear and tear.

The semi-corrected range offers a combination of the natural beauty and variation of an aniline hide with a wax based top coat ensuring these leathers are easy to maintain and suitable for family use.

Old Vintage AnilineProbably our most popular range. Offering a range of semi-aniline leathers with a level of distressing to show off the beauty and natural character of the hide.

Our Semi-Aniline leathers offer natural variation coupled with a wax based top coat to give a beautiful inish while being easy to maintain.

Scars and other natural markings are often visible on these hides adding to the character and uniqueness of every piece.

The colour variance of many of these leathers lend an aged appearance to your brand new sofa.

Premium AnilineSoft brushed anilines and high sheen pure anilines are available in this range. While the brushed anilines give a soft distressed inish our pure anilines offer a high sheen inish that looks incredibly elegant. All the leathers in this range are very natural and as such show marks and natural scarring adding to the beauty of the inished piece. Maintenance is needed to keep these leathers looking their best however they represent an ideal choice for those looking for a sofa to age with them and their family.

In our Fabric Collection, each piece has been uniquely created to showcase the best in British fabric design. We know our customers are interested in both beautiful designs and in suitability for everyday use. That’s why we at The English Sofa Company have sourced a variety of fabrics from sumptuous deep velvets to elegant linens and wools offering something a little special while remaining both hard-wearing and practical.

All of our sofas can be tailored in any of the fabrics shown and if you still can’t ind the perfect fabric we also specialise in working with customers own fabric affording the individuality of bespoke furniture at practical prices.

FrameAll of our frames are manufactured in-house from solid, seasoned beech wood and individually placed serpentine springs. Each frame is robustly engineered to ensure your sofa will be cherished for generations to come.

Filling Duratech™ - With the production of ibres made from recycled bottles the innovative three dimensional spiral ibre has been tested to provide 95% loft retention after 5 years use. Foam and ibre wrapped - Our most popular cushion type, these cushions offer a supportive yet comfortable sit.

Rustic foam seats - Ensuring an extremely soft sit with all the recovery and clean lines you would expect to ind in a smart, practical display of upholstery.

Feather Top - A new addition to our range, these cushions are soft and supportive allowing the body to nestle into the cushion; luxuriously plump giving that lived in look.
