Y OU RE I NVITED TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH BOARD RAIL PASSENGER CAUCUS N ORTHERN C ALIFORNIA —N OVEMBER 12-15, 2003 Dear Colleague, You are invited to attend the Sixth Transportation Research Board Rail Passenger Caucus in the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento. The Caucus is a joint business meeting of the passenger rail-oriented committees in the TRB Public Transportation Section. The Caucus is also an opportunity to learn more about local rail transit systems, programs, and policies through its emphasis on agency presentations and technical tours. No other region has the multimodal diversity of Northern California. The Caucus will look at Intercity Rail, Commuter Rail, Rapid (Heavy) Rail, Light Rail, Streetcars, Cable Cars and Intermodal Transfer Facilities. The basic itinerary for the Caucus is as follows: Wednesday Evening : Reception and business meetings. Thursday & Friday : Site Visits and Presentations with Bay Area agencies. Saturday : Site Visits and Presentations with Sacramento agencies. Sunday (OPTIONAL) : Amtrak Overnight to Portland OR for TRB/APTA LRT Conference. Any member or friend of a TRB committee may attend, as well as program participants. Attendance is capped at 60 participants, however, to keep the interactive, "kick the tires and look under the hood" atmosphere typical of past caucuses. The registration fee is $190 in advance and $240 on-site, including a reception (cash bar) on Wednesday and breakfast and lunch on Thursday. Rooms at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco —in the Embarcadero at the nexus of subway, light rail, streetcar and cable car lines—are available at a special rate of $159 per night (plus tax). For information and registration, go to http://Gulliver.TRB.org/Conferences/RailCaucus or contact Peter Shaw ([email protected], 202-334-2966) or Elaine King ([email protected], 202-334-3206). T. R.
