Osmania University has given affiliation to conduct several Post-graduate and Advanced Post-

graduate Diploma Courses in Healthcare to different hospitals for the benefit of thousands of graduates

with a view to train them for employment in the healthcare industry. The PG Diploma Courses inHealthcare are of one year duration consisting of two semesters with theory and practical training andexaminations plus an internship of six months. The Advanced P G Diploma courses in Healthcare are oftwo year duration consisting of four semesters with theory and practical training and exams in first andsecond semesters and only practical training and practical examinations in the third and fourth semesterswithout any internship.

Eligibility:

The candidates who have passed or appeared in final year examination of a bachelor

degree with at least one life science subject are eligible for all the above courses 1 to 14

whereas graduates in all disciplines (Except Oriental Languages) are eligible for courses

15 and 16. These courses are offered by different hospitals, as mentioned below, in

affiliation to Osmania University.

Fee:The course fee for the PG Diploma courses with serial nos. 1 to 8 is Rs.17,500/- per semester (Semesters I & II). For Advanced P G Diploma courses with serial nos. 9 to 16, it is Rs.12,500/-

per Semester- payable only for Semesters-I and II and there is no fee payable for Semesters III &

IV.

1. PG Diploma in Operation Theatre TechnologyPG Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology is a full time course and covers all the topicsrelated to the field of operation theatre techniques which are necessary to become a qualified

operation theatre technician. Today, with advanced technology, surgeries and operations have a big role to play to help people overcome their ailments. For quality treatment in the operation

theatre, there is a great demand for qualified and trained technologists in corporate hospitals.

The course helps in the exposure to a student with all types of equipments & techniques usedduring normal as well as superspeciality surgeries. Students benefit through work-training in all

types of theatres under highly qualified surgeons.It includes study of basic terms of Medicine and hospital procedures. The candidates with a

2. PG Diploma in Cardiac Anesthesia TechnologyThe PG Diploma in Cardiac Anaesthesia Technology will train students to work as CardiacAnaesthesia Technologists in Hospitals. The Indian Society of Anesthetists plan to implementminimum standards for patient care which means that it will be mandatory for Anesthetists tohave a skilled assistance for at least the start and end of every Anesthetic procedure. Theseskilled assistance need to be trained properly especially in cases of Cardiac Anesthesia.

After successful completion of the course the student will be able to assist / help the CardiacAnesthetist during surgical procedures with proper skill, knowledge and attitude.It includes study of basic terms of Medicine and hospital procedures. The candidates with a

The PG Diploma Course in Medical Research Assistant will train students to work as MedicalResearch Assistants in the Research Department of Hospitals and Medical Research Institutes.They ensure that the lab is organized and runs smoothly and that standard lab procedures are

used for collecting and storing data. The Medical Research Assistant also trains and supervisesnew research personnel and students in these procedures. He helps to design studies, run studiesstore data, prepare figures and tables, statistical analyses and slides and posters for presentation.He may also record vital signs, draw blood, help in ECG’s and other clinical tests. He may alsoassist with phones, screening calls, enrollment and regulatory data entry.

4. P G Diploma in Cath Lab Technology

P G Diploma in Cath Lab Technology will prepare students to function as an integral part of theteam by participating, implementing, and assisting in the care of patients in the CardiacCatheterization Laboratory. The Cath lab technologists demonstrate advance technical

proficiency for all Cardiac Catheterization procedures and provide continuous care to all patients with multiple needs.

Cath lab techs work with doctors to diagnose heart problems in patients by preparing patientsfor invasive cardiac procedures. The Cath lab tech prepares patients by helping them onto an

examination table for the catheterization and monitors the patient’s vital signs and alerts thedoctor of any problems. Cath lab techs are also trained in emergency procedures to resuscitate

patients if needed.


5. PG Diploma in Cardiac Medical Laboratory Technology:

PG Diploma in Cardiac Medical Laboratory technology is in demand since a MedicalLaboratory is one of the corner stones of modern Medicine. Clinical Laboratory tests have

become key elements in most diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for the treatment of

Pathophysiological conditions of the body. The Physician’s examinations are supported bylaboratory investigations like analysis of body fluids, tissues, blood typing, microorganism

PG Diploma in Perfusion TechnologyPG Diploma in Perfusion Technology prepares students for the job of a perfusionist who is askilled person, qualified by academic and clinical education who operates the heart lungmachine when it is necessary to replace the patients circulatory or respiratory function. The

course is intended to give training in cardiopulmonary by-pass techniques. This would involvesome knowledge of anatomy physiology and physics. These technologists also have training in

monitoring techniques, which are essential for perfusion. The perfusionist is skilled in theadministration of blood products, anesthetic agents and drugs through the extra corporeal circuit.Further the perfusionist is also knowledgeable and competent in the management of other

perfusion related equipment, techniques and procedures. After successful completion of thecourse the student will be able to operate the heart lung machine when it is necessary to replace

P G Diploma in Cardiac Pulmonary PhysiotherapyPG Diploma in Cardiac Pulmonary Physiotherapy prepares students to work as RespiratoryTherapists or Cardiopulmonary Technologists who deliver medication to patients who havedifficulty breathing. This field also referred to as Cardiopulmonary has gained a lot ofimportance and such trained Cardiac pulmonary physiotherapists are in great demand in

Hospitals of India and abroad. They perform ECG’s, Holter Monitors, Event Monitors, HandHeld Nebulizer Therapy, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, Ventilator or Life Support

8. P G Diploma in Echo Cardiography & SonographyThe P G Diploma in Echo Cardiography & Sonography is a specialized healthcare field andinvolves the assessment of cardiovascular anatomy (the structure and function of the heart and

blood vessels) with the use of specialized ultrasound technology. The Echocardiographer (orCardiac Sonographer or Echo Tech) receives specialty training in cardiac ultrasound technology.

Echocardiography maps the structures of the heart and vessels, such as valves and walls, and provides detailed information about the efficiency of blood flow through the cardiovascularsystem. Also known as Cardiac Sonography, Echocardiography is now replacing older

radiology studies as a safer, more cost-effective, and more accurate diagnostic imaging procedure.

The Echocardiographer performs an echocardiogram for the patient in a hospital, clinic, doctor’soffice, or diagnostic imaging center setting. Cardiac Sonography jobs combine high-tech

training and expertise with compassionate hands-on patient care.Echocardiographers work closely with patients throughout the procedure. He operates

ultrasound equipment that collects reflected echoes and Doppler signals from images andspectral tracings of the heart. Two-dimensional images and Doppler tracings are used to assess

cardiac structures and hemodynamics (study of blood flow). 9. Advanced P G Diploma in Physician AssistantPG Diploma in Physician Assistant will train the students to work as Physician Assistants. APhysician Assistant is a position between the Physician (Doctor) and the Nurse and will workunder the supervision of the Doctor (Physician or Surgeon). The Physician Assistant is

responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic services, to obtain patient history, perform physical examination etc. They also order diagnostic tests and x-rays, interpreting the results of

such tests as instructed. A Physician Assistant may assist suturing tasks, splinting and castingunder the supervision of the Doctor. Physician Assistants record progress notes and counsel

patients. Physician Assistants have managerial duties in Medical offices. This Course is almostentirely Hospital and patient-based and only those who are willing to work in hospitals and dedicate

themselves for patient care should opt for it.

It includes study of basic General Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, diagnosis

and hospital procedures. The candidates with a bachelor degree with at least one life sciencesubject are eligible for this course.

10. Advanced P G Diploma in Emergency Medical Care

The PG Diploma in Emergency Medical Care qualifies candidates to work as EmergencyMedical Technicians (EMTs). EMTs are indispensable during accidents or emergencies and

many lives are saved due to their hard work and commitment. People’s lives often depend ontheir quick reaction and competent care. Incidents as varied as automobile accidents, heartattacks, slips and falls, childbirth, and gunshot wounds all require immediate medical

attention. EMTs provide this vital service and transport the sick or injured to a medicalfacility/Hospital. In an emergency, EMTs are typically dispatched by an operator (e.g. at

phone number 101 or 108) to the scene, where they often work with police and fire fighters.Once they arrive, EMTs assess the nature of the patient’s condition while trying to determinewhether the patient has any pre-existing medical conditions. Following medical protocols

and guidelines, they provide appropriate emergency care and, when necessary, transport the patient to a medical facility/Hospital. Some are trained to treat patients with minor injuries

on the scene of an accident or they may treat them at their home without transporting themto a medical facility. Emergency treatment is carried out under the direction of physicians.

This Course is almost entirely Hospital and patient-based and only those who are willing towork in hospitals and dedicate themselves for patient care should opt for it.

11. Advanced P G Diploma in Medical Imaging Technology

PG Diploma in Medical Imaging Technology is a full time course. Students learn the basic

anatomy of the body, so that they can interpret the parts on the radiograph, basic physiology ofthe body & the pathology that will alter it leading to a disease process. Students will be trained

in conventional radiography as well as in modern imaging techniques which are not routinely performed but necessary to know as a radiology & imaging technician. Students get experiencein hi tech diagnostic centers with the whole new and advance equipments and imaging

techniques. The demand of technologists are increasing day by day due to constant opening ofthe diagnostic centers in public as well as private sectors not even in India but also abroad.

12. Advanced P G Diploma in Cardiac TechnologyPG Diploma in Cardiac Technology trains students to work as Cardiology technologists andallied health support personnel in a variety of settings in Cardiology Departments of Hospitalsand in Heart Hospitals. A Cardiology technologist is trained to perform diagnostic procedures at

the request of the physician to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with cardiac disease. Thework place will vary from doctors’ offices to hospital Cardiology departments. Cardiology

technologists operate machines like ECG machines that record the electrical changes that occurduring and between heartbeats and a printout is made for interpretation by the physician.Cardiology technologists also perform other important tests and help Physicians use the outputto diagnose arrhythmias or problems with pacemakers. They also assist with treadmill stresstesting as well and document the patient’s medical history and explain the procedure. In addition

to performing diagnostic cardiac procedures, they may be responsible for schedulingappointments, typing doctors’ interpretations, maintaining patient files, and caring forequipment.It includes study of basic General Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, diagnosisand hospital procedures. 13. Advanced P G Diploma in Dialysis TechnologyPG Diploma in Dialysis Management is a full time course. Dialysis is most frequently donenowadays because nephrological ailments occur commonly in all stages of life among urban as

well as rural population. Due to this, new separate hospitals for nephrology and departmentsespecially for nephrology are being established in running hospitals to handle all types of

dialysis. A dialysis technician plays an important role in the procedure of dialysis and thedemand of such a technician is increasing day by day. Dialysis is a form of therapy, which isused in patients with kidney failure. In the absence of kidney function, dialysis helps patients

survive and also lead a good quality of life. In patients who are critically ill, dialysis is aninevitable part of the ICU support system. The concepts of dialysis; types of dialysis as well as

the machines used for dialysis are changing rapidly. The aim of the dialysis technology course isto provide an educational programme to train students to understand the principles and

PG Diploma in Medical Informatics will prepare students for a career in the Medical Records

Departments of Hospitals. Enormous volumes of information is generated every day in largeCorporate Hospitals, Nursing homes, Clinics and Laboratories which is being processed by

successful application of Information Technology. This information is stored and maintained both manually and Electronically as Medical Records. The application of Informationtechnology in Healthcare, now generally known as Health Informatics, is a complex andinterdisciplinary field in which Medicine, Computer Science, Management Science and

these days. Processing Medical insurance claims has become big business! They will work asHospital Billing & Insurance experts and process insurance claims efficiently, handle patientinvoices, and obtain reimbursements for both patients and Hospitals/Doctors. They will
