Named after Ebu Eyyûb el-Ensarî, whose tomb lies nearby, the Istanbul

district of Eyüp was the first settlement established outside the walls

of the city in the aftermath of the conquest of the city in 1453 by the

Ottoman Turks. This area of the city is home to a large number of

historical monuments, including the famous Eyüp Sultan Mosque, built

by the Ottomans in 1458. This district even hosts the almshouse built by

Mihrimah Valide Sultan, the mother of Sultan Selim III, which to this day

still conducts the charitable activities it has been doing in Eyüp for the

past 200 years. Also nearby is the historic Eyüp Cemetery, featuring the

graves of significant soldiers, statesmen and scholars, which to this day is

a haven of peace to the area with its lush greenery and stately tombs.

İsmini, sınırları içinde türbesi bulunan Ebu Eyyûb el-Ensarî’den alan

Osmanlı döneminin önemli asker, devlet adamı ve alimlerinin

mezarları bulunan tarihi Eyüp mezarlığı, büyük yeşil alanı ile bölgeye

büyük bir huzur veriyor.

Yakın dönemde Haliç’teki bütün fabrikaların kapatılması ile Eyüp’ün

nitelikleri olumlu olarak değişiyor. Karşı kıyıda Galata ve Beyoğlu’na

olan yakınlığını, geçirdiği hızlı modernleşme süreciyle birleştiren

Eyüp, tarihi yarımadanın en cazip noktalarından biri haline geliyor.

Son 10 yıldan bugüne değeri katlanarak artan Eyüp’ün, tarihi dokusu

Because of the closure of all the factories in Haliç, the Golden Horn

area, recently, Eyüp has commenced an amazing urban transformation
