Other Voices - Ireland's iconic music festival – comes to Cardigan in autumn 2019

Other Voices, Ireland’s internationally acclaimed music festival and music television programme,

is thrilled to announce that it will be coming to Cardigan, Ceredigion this autumn.

On 1st and 2nd November Other Voices makes its way from Dingle on the west coast of Ireland to

Cardigan on the west coast of Wales, for a phenomenal weekend of music which celebrates the

longstanding cultural and musical ties between these Celtic regions. Over the two-day event

Other Voices Cardigan will showcase an incredible line-up of over 30 free musical and cultural

events in intimate venues and atmospheric spaces throughout Cardigan, hosted by Huw

Stephens and presented in partnership with Theatr Mwldan and Triongl.

A celebration of music in all its forms, Other Voices began as an intimate gathering in 2001, with

musicians travelling to sing in a tiny church in Dingle, on the very western edge of Ireland. The

incredible list of artists, who have appeared at past Other Voices events, includes John Grant,

The National, The XX, Hozier, Elbow, Florence and The Machine, Super Furry Animals, Amy

Winehouse, Snow Patrol, Laura Marling, Cerys Matthews and Ellie Goulding. Every year

thousands of music fans make the pilgrimage to Dingle to see exceptional music performed in an

extraordinary place.

To date over 30 million viewers have watched Other Voices online worldwide, and it has travelled

from its home base in West Kerry (Ireland), to Austin (Texas), London, Belfast and Berlin, Derry

and New York, enriching the cultural landscape of every destination it visits, celebrating a diverse

array of live music as well as providing a platform for open, compelling dialogues about art,

culture, technology and commerce and exploring the ways in which they intersect.

St Mary’s Church will become the main venue for Other Voices Cardigan, hosting the headline

acts. These performances will be simultaneously broadcast live to screens in and around the town

so that the local community and visitors to the town alike can share in the excitement of this

exceptional experience.

In addition to St Mary’s Church there will also be a number of ‘Music Trail’ venues located around

the town which will be presenting more than 30 artists.

Admission is free of charge after a one-off registration fee of £5 per person which covers a

wristband that enables free entry to Music Trail venues. Wristband holders will be entered into a

draw to win prized admission tickets to the performances at St Mary’s Church and tickets will also

be allocated via competitions in media and social media, check @OtherVoicesLive for details.

Artists performing in Other Voices Cardigan will be announced in the coming weeks.

important cultural and economic partners and Other Voices is a splendid addition to what is an already

burgeoning calendar of internationally acclaimed festivals in Wales.”

place to further strengthen these vibrant and modern links.”

Other Voices Cardigan is staged with the support and investment of Welsh Government and The

Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, and is produced by South Wind Blows in

partnership with Theatr Mwldan and Triongl. The event will be filmed by Triongl for later broadcast

on S4C.

Other Voices started as a one-off music event in a small church in Dingle, a small fishing village

in the west of Ireland and over the last 17 years the idea has grown. Other Voices is now an

established fixture in the musical calendar - a ‘must attend’ event for performers and audiences

alike. Other Voices has led to the creation of an international music TV series and the filming of

that series subsequently became a music festival, a tourism event in its own right that celebrates

the local on a global scale. In recent years Other Voices has travelled to London, Belfast, New

York, Austin, Texas and Berlin.

Theatr Mwldan Theatr Mwldan is an independent Arts Centre and cinema based in Cardigan. The venue is open

363 days a year offering a multi artform live programme and screens around 3000 films and live

broadcasts annually. A major producing venue, Mwldan is behind collaborations such as Catrin

Finch and Seckou Keita, and also produces the Cardigan Castle Summer Events in partnership

with Cardigan Castle. In 2017 Mwldan started the record label bendigedig in partnership with

ARC music productions, operating a 360-degree model of artist management, agenting,

producing, releasing, PR and marketing. A not-for-profit registered charity and social enterprise,

the organisation has an annual turnover of £1.4 million and employs a staff team of 24.

Triongl

Triongl is a TV and Film production company established in 2017 by Nora Ostler and Alec Spiteri

and joined by Gethin Scourfield in 2018. All three are experienced producers with a track record

of producing high quality, award-winning content. Their mini-series ‘Pili Pala’ (Butterfly Breath)

premiers on S4C in September. Their broad development slate includes further drama series and

features including two films being developed with Ffilm Cymru Wales. They will be documenting

‘Other Voices/Lleisiau Eraill’ in a series for S4C.
