Teammates: self-development, leader development and mentoring are the three critical aspects of our profession. SGM Woodring and I encourage each of you to review the list of potential materials referenced in this trifold in order to enable your pursuit of all three. Our desire is for the materials to serve as a catalyst for discussions, critical thinking and vicarious learning to build a more effective Military Police Corps. As pointed out by many we solicited for input, senior leader reading recommendations tend to be an extensive list of every book one should read, from the beginning of your career to the end. Or, they sometimes take the shape of, “what I, the leader, have read”. We believe this list is different. Provided on the referenced OPMG website are readings pulled from across the MP Corps or sought out from recognized leaders across the Military and academia. We also included, our own personal recommendations which are short, capture a couple classics but also books on emerging topics. A more detailed list of related reading recommendations is provided by topic based on submissions received. Our promise to you is that we will update the Professional Development recommendations annually based on new discoveries and recommendations from you. Knowing that many of you are extremely busy, the SGM and I (with the help of incredibly smart MPs) have included a PMG Quick hits section. If you have 10-20 minutes while eating lunch or on a treadmill, these videos and websites not only serve to impart knowledge but can serve as a spark for those you are leading in each of the subject areas. Professionals invest in self-development and developing others. The professional development recommendations provided will help you grow individually and in developing subordinates across your career.
