Academic Support

Living Learning Centers (LLC)

Located in the Harold and Delta Housing Complexes, the centers address student educational, recreational, and social needs. The on-site LLC coordinators assist students, plan and implement activities to meet student needs, make referrals, and conduct informal counseling.

Early Alert Program

Faculty members inform the Center concerning students who are At-risk for success during the semester. The Center assists referred students through informal counseling, tutoring, by involving the academic advisor, and other student support services.

Retention and Persistence

Student Success Plan

The SSC retention program specifically focuses on five student groups:

1) Admitted Through Conditional Admission

2) Admitted Through Admission Appeals

3) Admitted Through Academic Appeals

4) Admitted Through Financial Aid Appeals

5) Re-admitted

These students are required to complete a Student Success Plan contract as part of their admission requirements. They are assessed, provided services for their academic, social and professional growth, monitored and evaluated to measure outcomes. The academic recovery program consists of students admitted through appeal and readmitted students.

Student Success Workshops

The “Navigating the Yard” workshop series is tailored to student needs to provide a successful transition to college life and to achieve individual academic and professional goals. The SSC distributes a seminar schedule each semester.

Textbook Scholarship Students submit applications at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters for up to $500 per semester awards. Minimum eligibility requirements are:

1) Enrolled full-time

2) A 2.5 minimum cumulative GPA

3) Have exhausted all other financial aid options

Transfer/Non-Traditional Program

The program’s purpose is to assist students in their transition to the University. This program includes but is not limited to advising during the pre-transfer and admission process, assisting in adapting to a new campus, and accessing student support services.

Senior Completion Program

“Destination Graduation” assists students near graduation with small balances that may prevent their persistence to graduation. In return, students agree to participate in professional and career development programs and services.

Withdrawal Exit Surveys

Students are required to visit with the retention coordinator to discuss and complete an exit interview and survey in the SSC before withdrawing from the university.
