Alberta’s Aboriginal people have been deeply connected to the land for centuries. That connection remains strong today. There is a lot of knowledge in Aboriginal communities and Osum respects that knowledge. A fundamental belief that has been shared by Aboriginal leaders is that we must consider the impact of any decision on children generations away. Decisions made now must ensure the needs of future generations will be met. We agree with them.

ABORIGINAL RELATIONS VISION STATEMENT

Integrity.
It’s a vital characteristic.
And it’s the way we want our company to live.
We believe that if a company consistently demonstrates integrity, over time it will earn trust.
We want to earn your trust.
We want to create strong relationshipswith our Aboriginal stakeholders.
And we want to be good neighbours.
We know this will take serious commitment, investment in people and relationships, and many, many small acts over a long, long period of time.
We also know that this ultimately requires two-way engagement, and commitment from both parties.
But we believe it can be achieved.
Our goal is to be an outstanding example of information exchange and decision-making.
To listen. To take measure of the tough issues. To deliver a wise, balanced approach.
To demonstrate deep respect for your language, culture, customs and social and political institutions.
To reach out often and early.
To create platforms so you can know what we are doing, and provide meaningful input from the very
beginning, right through to the end.
We want to maximize the positive effects our business has for you,
your community and your Nation.
And we want to work with you to identify and mitigate or avoid the negative ones.
And we want to do all of this, each day, with integrity.
That’s the vision we’re starting with.
