Fundamentals of Construction Documents 0.6 CEUs, 6.0 PDHs; September 28; 9am – 4pmIn this course you will explore the fundamental components that comprise a set of contract documents as well as documents that allow for modifications. Review typical recurring forms such as project records, closeout and commissioning documentation, as well as other specialty documents which vary from project to project. Discuss the importance of documents such as existing drawings, geotechnical reports and environmental permits; and discover uses and strategies to resolve problems based on that information.

Essentials of Estimating0.6 CEUs, 6.0 PDHs; October 5; 9am – 4pmIn this course you will discuss preliminary estimates and project estimates as well as the components of those estimates including historical costs, quantities, variable factors influenced by site conditions, time and other issues. Estimate components such as take-off, built up labor rates, crew productions, equipment, materials and subcontracts will also be covered in more depth with discussions on how they can vary. You will explore strategies for reducing risk during estimating and project progress.

Fundamentals of Bidding0.6 CEUs, 6.0 PDHs; October 12; 9am – 4pmIn this course you will discuss best practices for the entire bidding process from project selection and prioritization to bid day finalization. You will explore topics such as checklists for guidance, insurance, assembling components from multiple sources, overhead, risk and markup. Participants will gain a better understanding of potential problems during the bid process and methods to reduce the associated risk.

Tips and Techniques of Effective Scheduling 0.6 CEUs, 6.0 PDHs; October 19; 9am – 4pmExplore schedule components and how they are derived. You will also discuss how risks and constraints identified in the bidding process can be managed with the schedules for the project. Review methods to integrate the project’s productions, cost control and cash flow.

Cost Control0.6 CEUs, 6.0 PDHs; October 26; 9am – 4pmBest practices for establishing and using the project cost control will be discussed along with its use for projecting project costs and completion. Record keeping for populating the cost control can serve multiple purposes including managing changes and risk on the project and will be discussed as critical components of an effective cost control system.

Managing Projects0.6 CEUs, 6.0 PDHs; November 2; 9am – 4pmIn this course you will explore methods to manage the project such as effective documentation methods, using technology as a tool, managing the site, risk, quality, safety and personnel. You will also discuss considerations for contract changes and project closeout.

Effective Leadership0.3 CEUs 3.0 PDHs; November 9; 9am – 12pmThe leadership course will help you weave together all the topics covered throughout each of the courses while exploring leadership components. You will explore the characteristics of a leader, decision making and conflict resolution techniques. Examine how behavior and interactions with others defines quality leaders.

Registrations may be canceled five (5) business days prior to the start of the course and receive a full refund. Within 5 days prior to the start of the course, registrants that cancel will be responsible for 25% of the course fee. Registrants that have paid and cancel without proper notification will re-ceive a 75% refund. The registrants who fail to attend the course without any prior notification will be responsible for the full course fee. Substitutions may be made at anytime without penalty prior to the course starting date. In the event that OSU has to cancel a course, OSU will not be responsible for any cancellation charges assessed by airlines, travel agencies, hotels, etc…
