Fashion can be cruel.Itʼs definitely a language. Itʼs a thought-process, itʼs trying to breach the two brain-halves, It is a system of signs but their meanings are relatively fluid. Itʼs an inevitable and inescapable text in our lives. People can pick out their allies and can pick out their foes.

Fashion is something you buy. Fashion Fashion, at the end of the day, is superficial. Fashion is always a mirror, itʼs never the one starting something.Fashion to me is a very abstract word which encapsulates a very big universe motivated by money.

Some people are really talented, and almost artists, but sometimes it is just trying to hide a lack of ideas. The way fashion takes in its subject matters is kind of osmotic.

fashion is a collective construction. On the one hand, you have the person, on the other, the system. Fashion is a group sensibility and style is an individual sensibility.

Fashion is about large groups of people, and it is also about power: fashion usually follows someoneʼs style. People who are in fashion see someone stylish do something, and then they mass produce that gesture on the next level and it spreads down the pyramid.

fashion is always about here and now, and whatʼs next. The basis of almost every piece of fashion is nostalgia. All these fashion moments are indicative of larger things going on in history. It can become a very powerful visible symbol of a particular movement, or a particular thought... Connect people on a very superficial level, but also in a very subtle way.

On the one hand, intellectuals thought that fashion was a stupid fluffly issue, and a lot of fashion people thought it was boring to try to discuss fashion seriously. Itʼs most wonderful when it frees your mind from thinking about other things.

Clothes are much more about a disguise, or a mask, than any kind of blunt statement. One of the primary meanings of the body has to do with sexuality, one of the primary meanings of fashion has to do with sexuality. Thatʼs about utility, and doesnʼt have anything to do with decadence.

Q: What is it?

It is a double bind. I donʼt think they go together at all. It is frustrating. It can be contrived and kind of desperate. And sad. Itʼs not about beauty, or whatʼs pretty. It has nothing to do with elegance either. Thatʼs why itʼs great.Everything is put in and it comes out all mashed up, something new grows by feeding on old stuff, what was put in, like composting. There is no conversation; itʼs a one-way thing. Itʼs too fast, too self centered, too greedy. Even the ʻgoodʼ things. It eats it. Itʼs cyclical. One follows the other, or, they exist separately. They can coincide. Itʼs earnest. It makes people happy. Itʼs a vice. Ultimately everything always changes.

Itʼs what keeps it going really, everyone wants to be elegant, to have what other people envy. I have it. Itʼs all about reference. I know how it feels. Iʼm not sure if there is a difference; I think it is art. It is so powerful.Nothing exists independently or free from history. You would be overrating yourself if you though otherwise. Some are talent-less. What they do is cut and paste. Itʼs a craft, for some. It shows. Intellectually, Iʼm not sure. When it evokes emotion it is deep. It makes your skin crawl itʼs so sensory. Itʼs like birth, I think, for the makers. You can feel the hours, the creativity and passion that have contributed to the creation of the object. Itʼs not about duplicating, or copying, itʼs about knowing your references, re-inventing. Yes. This is how I speak to my surroundings. It is deeply personal, but for everyone to see. It is how I open up. Other times itʼs armor. One look at it is all it takes. Itʼs such a useful tool. It saves me a lot of time socially. It takes finesse, Fingerspitzengefühl. I have a lifetime of experience.Itʼs about curiosity and context. There are sides to it that are more political, especially to do with the economy. Human rights too I believe. I try not to think about it too much. Iʼm a happy person. It will never change.

You canʼt have one without the other really. Iʼve never tried to be. They go hand in hand. Exposing myself like that. I donʼt want to stand out. I donʼt think Iʼm a part of it. I see them and it looks tiring. I donʼt belong to anything in particular. I donʼt get excited in any particular way. I guess I do it in a way. I have a body. Sometimes. I do get attached. Iʼd be sad if I lost them. I can be nostalgic. Technology. Communication is interesting, the way it is changing. I donʼt communicate by using it. I think. People that know might say that. I think about colours, but thatʼs it. I think some people get addicted. Like thatʼs all there is.In the future everyone will know everything, if they want to. Weʼre so informed. We have access to everything. Maybe we will all look the same.
