Established in 2004 at the University of Richmond School of Continuing Studies, the OsherLifelong Learning Institute operates through the support of its members, the University of Richmond, and through an endowment from the Bernard Osher Foundation of SanFrancisco. We offer intellectual stimulation and civic engagement in a community of lifelong learners, age 50 and better.

OLLI Leadership CouncilComposed of Osher members, the OLLI Leadership Council is actively engaged in volunteerservice for all aspects of the Osher Institute. A list of the current members and meeting min-utes of the OLLI Leadership Council are posted on the OLLI website. Leadership Councilmembers serve on teams for Membership, Marketing, Curriculum, Course Leader Supportand Development.

MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

Membership LevelsYou can become an Osher member atany time during the year for as little as$50 per year. A summary follows ofmembership levels and benefits. To become a member, see page 19 for aMembership Form or visit us online atosher.richmond.edu and click on Mem-bership Levels. Your membership is validfor one year from the date you join.

GOLD $400/year(rolling 12-month)Our Gold membership is perfect for individuals who want to take advantageof the entire Osher Lifelong LearningInstitute experience. This individualmembership includes a University ofRichmond One Card and e-mail address,parking pass, full use of the library in-cluding access to online databases whileon campus, and membership in Friendsof Boatwright Memorial Library. In addi-tion, Gold members have unlimited access to all Osher courses included inthis Schedule of Classes free of chargeexcluding off-campus trips.

GOLD PLUS ONE $600/year(rolling 12-month)Gold Plus One is the perfect membershipfor two people joining Osher together.When you join with another person as aGold Plus One member, each personsaves $100. This level includes the samebenefits as our Gold membership but cov-ers two people joining together.

SILVER $50/year(rolling 12-month)Our Silver membership is the perfect “getacquainted” level for individuals who areinterested in seeing what Osher has tooffer. For a small annual fee, an individualreceives a University of Richmond OneCard and e-mail address, parking pass, fullstudent-status use of the library includingaccess to online databases while on cam-pus, and access to register for Oshercourses. However, Silver members pay foreach course in which they enroll, $100 toaudit available semester-long credit coursesand mini course fees as listed in thisSchedule of Classes.

UR Osher $25/year(rolling 12-month)For UR faculty, staff and retirees, whowant to receive notices of special Oshermember events and programs.

Upgrading YourMembershipAre you a Silver member who is wonder-ing if an all-inclusive Gold or Gold PlusOne membership (allowing you to regis-ter for as many classes as you’d like forno additional fees) is right for you? Silvermembers may upgrade to Gold or GoldPlus One at any time during the first sixmonths of their membership year. Up-grades will not change the membershipterm dates. When upgrading, the $50 Silver membership fee will be applied tothe upgrade.

Refund PolicyCourse fees paid cannot be refunded,and cannot be applied to membershipfees. Membership fees cannot be cred-ited or refunded, except in upgrades asdescribed in the Upgrading Your Mem-bership section.

PaymentsWe accept checks (made payable to theUniversity of Richmond), VISA, Master-Card or American Express. When pay-ing by check, payment of membershipfee and course registration fees must besubmitted on separate checks.

ScholarshipsThe UR Osher Institute is pleased to beable to offer scholarships for Osher on-campus mini-courses. Please encourageindividuals who may otherwise hesitate tojoin us to inquire about a scholarship bycalling the OLLI office.

Speech CenterIf you are considering a speaking assign-ment, the University Speech Center wouldlike to offer support. Individuals mayschedule practice time on a wide variety ofvisual aids, including PowerPoint, over-head transparencies, and audio support.Peer tutoring sessions are available withany of the student speech consultants attimes designed to suit clients’ schedules.

UR COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

Boatwright Memorial LibraryAll Osher Institute members may enjoythe following privileges at the BoatwrightMemorial Library:

• Borrowing books, audiobooks andmusic recordings

• Use of more than 120 online librarydatabases that can be accessed from theUR campus via a network ID and pass-word.

• Participating in the libraryworkshop series offeredby the library each falland spring, usually inthe second half of thesemester; details avail-able from library staff;the workshop series is inaddition to the libraryclasses offered through theOLLI

Campus Parking and MapOsher members receive a vehicle tag forparking on campus valid for the currentyear of OLLI membership. The tag mustbe displayed at all times when parking oncampus, and is to be placed inside the rearwindow on the driver’s side. Osher mem-ber parking is allowed in posted Com-muter parking areas located aroundcampus. With your Osher parking tagproperly displayed, you may also park inother lots on campus after posted hours.Parking is allowed ONLY on paved, desig-nated parking spaces. Handicapped park-ing is available for Osher members withvalid handicapped parking tags. All cam-pus buildings and parking areas are de-tailed on the UR campus map atrichmond.edu/visit/maps.

Friends of Boatwright Memorial LibraryA wonderful benefit of Osher InstituteGold and Gold Plus One membership isthe option to enroll in the “Friends ofBoatwright Memorial Library.” Memberswho wish to enroll may simply check thisoption on their membership form, orcontact the Osher Institute at (804) 287-6608. Friends are involved in activities tosupport the Boatwright Memorial Li-brary and are invited to special Friendsof the Boatwright Library eventsthroughout the year.

Modlin CenterAll Osher Institute members are eligiblefor the Osher Institute Member discountfor individual Modlin Center perform-ances (not applicable to season subscrip-tions) and may purchase tickets whenthey go on sale to the UR campus com-munity, usually in early August of eachyear. Please note that the Senior (65+)rate for a season subscription package iscomparable to the Osher Institute mem-ber rate for individual tickets.

Technology LearningCenter (TLC)The TLC is available for useby Osher Institute memberswith a valid One Card andan activated University net-work ID and password.

TLC resources include aMacintosh and PC produc-

tion lab and training materialsavailable for checkout. Help is

available from student lab assistants. Pri-ority for use of equipment and lab assis-tance is given to undergraduates workingon academic projects. The TLC is locatedon the 3rd floor of the Boatwright Li-brary. Campus WalksGuided by an Osher member, thesewalks follow the beautiful walking trailson the University of Richmond campus.Wear comfortable walking shoes andbring water and insect repellant. Walkersneed not complete the entire walk. Dates: A campus walk will take placeafter each on-campus “Learning on theRun” Brown Bag midday lecture; pleasesee “Learning on the Run” listings withdates in this schedule.

Civic EngagementAt the UR Bonner Center for Civic En-gagement, Osher members may join un-dergraduate students, faculty, staff, andcommunity members to address civic andsocial issues through action, reflection, and research. The center helps to matchvolunteers with opportunities to help inthe metro-Richmond area and sponsorsbrown bag lunch discussions during theFall and Spring semesters.
