Tenor John M. Punt,astudentofTimNoble,hascompetedasanationalfinalistintheNationalSocietyofArtsandLettersWinstonRabbVocalCompetition,andhasreceivedmultipleEncouragementAwardsintheMetropolitanOperaNationalCouncilAuditionsinvariousdistricts,aswellasnumerousothercompetitions. Also a pianist and composer, John’s advocacy of rarely performed music has enabled him to perform numerouspremieresandsinginnearly40languages.JohnservesasArtisticDirectorforNewVoiceOpera,aBloomington-basedcompanythatcommissionsandproducesnewoperasbyIUstudents,andiscurrentlyworkingonhisownoperacompositions.
Apassionateperformerofearlymusic,sopranoAshley ValentinerecentlyperformedthetitleroleinHandel’sRodelinda withtheIUOperaTheatre. Ashley is the soprano soloistinupcomingperformancesofHaydn'sCreationwiththeNashvilleSymphony, underthedirectionofNicholasMcGegan.Thispastseason,shewasasoloistinMendelssohn'sLobgesangwiththePhilharmoniaBaroqueOrchestra,andsangtheroleofOrfeointheAmericanpremiereofHandel’sParnasso in festawiththeAmericanBachSoloistsAcademy,underJeffreyThomas.AshleyholdsaBachelorofMusicdegreefromtheSanFranciscoConservatoryofMusic,whereshestudiedundermezzo-soprano
CatherineCook.Currently,sheispursuingherMaster'sdegreeinhistoricalperformanceattheJacobsSchoolofMusic,whereshehasappearedintwoconcertswiththeBloomingtonBachCantataProject.
Brazilian-American bass-baritone Rafael PortoisarecentgraduateoftheJacobsSchoolofMusicatIndianaUniversity.HehasbeenadistrictwinneroftheMetropolitanOperaNationalCouncilauditions,theNationalOrpheusVocalCompetitionStudentGrandPrizeWinner,andtheNationalSocietyofArtsandLettersBloomingtonchapterwinner.Mr.PortomadehisprofessionaldebutwithIndianapolisOperaastheCommissionerinMadama Butterflyin2011andlaterreturnedasBillyJackrabbit/CastroinLa fanciulla del West.Inthefallof2016hewasagainengagedwiththecompanytosingtheroleofDonBasilioinIl barbiere di Siviglia.Duringthisseason,hewillreturntoIndianapolis

Gerald Sousa(ArtisticDirector)hasheldthepositionofBCSArtisticDirectorsince1989.Dr.Sousareceivedhisbachelor’sandmaster’sdegreesfromtheUniversityofNorthCarolinaatChapelHill,andhisdoctorateinChoralConducting,summacumlaude,fromIndianaUniversity.HehasheldpositionsattheUniversityofNewOrleans,DartmouthCollege,andtheUniversityofNorthCarolina,andhasperformedprofessionallyattheAspenSummerMusicFestival.Dr.SousaiscurrentlyDirectorofMusicatSt.Mark’sUnitedMethodistChurchinBloomington,andisactiveasanartsadvocateandtechnologyconsultant.Hehasservedontheboardsoflocalartsorganizations,includingtheformerBloomingtonAreaArtsCouncil,whichheledas

Kyle Karum(AssistantDirector)isamusiceducatororiginallyfromMuskegon,Mich.HeiscurrentlytheDirectorofChoralMusicatSeymour(Ind.)HighSchool,whereheteachesmorethan260studentsinsixchoirclasses. Kyle has held many other teaching assignmentsinthefieldofmusic.PriortohisappointmentatSHS,hewasDirectorofChoralMusicandGeneralMusicTeacheratPrairieHeightsCommunitySchoolCorporation in LaGrange, Ind. Kyle holds his BachelorofMusic:MusicEducation—Choral/GeneralEmphasisdegreefromWesternMichiganUniversity.AtWMU,hestudiedconductingunderJamesBass,RonaldOliver,andKimberlyDunnAdams,andmusiceducationwithDeeGauthier.Hehasalsoconductedinworkshopsettingsunder

Soprano Eunji Kim,anativeofSouthKorea,ispursuingaMasterofMusicdegreeinEarlyMusicVoiceatIU'sJacobsSchoolofMusic.Sheearnedherbachelor’sdegreeinvoicefromSeoulNationalUniversity.ShehasperformedBach’sMass in B minor, Haydn’sB-flatmajorMass,Mozart’sConcertArias,andPergolesi’sSalve Regina in C minorasasopranosoloistwiththeAmericanBachSoloistsAcademy,theIndianaUniversity’sBaroqueorchestraandtheClassicalorchestra.She has also appeared in manyconcertswiththeBloomingtonBachCantataProjectandtheBloomingtonEarlyMusicFestival.
