    This Pathfinder is provided by the

    Nashville Public Library (NPL) and is

    designed for a 7th or

    8th grade student or class to assist

    them in developing the skills and

    abilities needed to research a

    given topic. The topic is Native

    American history; listed below are many

    useful resources, supplied

    by either NPL or the Tennessee

    Electronic Library (TEL), that will

    supply the students with a

    general description of Native

    American history down to more specific

    facts, details, stories, and/ orimages. The goal of the pathfinder

    is two-fold: 1) to educate the student on

    what and where

    appropriate resources are and

    located, as well as, 2) to guide the

    students through the process of

    learning, identifying/ narrowing a

    topic, creating, and producing a

    satisfactory research project.

    York: Oxford.

    A valuable resource if you dont have a clue of how to spell the

    word, have difficulty reading, or need a place to start.

    Academic American Encyclopedia (1998). Danbury: Groiler.

    An A-Z very detailed general reference source that includes many

    bibliographical sources that will assist in learning about the

    topic.

    Awesome Library

    The site will help develop a general understanding of the terms

    and era associated with Native Americans. The library

    provides a conglomeration of information on one search oriented

    site. Additionally, a talking library is available as an

    A comprehensive dictionary that is easy to use and understand;

    will serve as a great resource for the entire research project.

    Metter, E. (1999). Facts in a Flash: a research guide for writers:

    from cruising the stacks to surfing the net.

    One stop guide to assisting in your research; the book will guideyou through the process and educate you on what different

    types of sources offer.

    National Geographic United States Atlas for Young Explorers

    (2008).

    Visual reference and guide to maps, photographs, and graphics

    that are good to help develop a better idea

    of the environment in which Native Americans lived through

    history.

    The American Heritage High School Dictionary (2010): HoughtonMifflin Harcourt

    A good resource for correct spellings, usage, and pronunciations,

    etc.

    The Time Almanac (1998).

    The resource is good for information related to government,

    history, statistical data, and people. A great way to get a general

    of the era, governmental happenings surrounding the topic, and

    relevant data.

    World Book Encyclopedia (2009). Chicago: World BookAn A-Z general reference resource that is visually appealing,

    accessible by all ages, and contains research aids.

    An educational site written and designed for the purpose of

    Wonderful resource that offers primary sources links to other

    online resources, and possible search terms. The site is provided

    by the Library of Congress.

    The National Archives

    Pictures of Native Americans

    The pictures in the site are representative of Native Americans and

    brought to us by 15 different government agencies ranging

    From the Bureau of Indian Affairs to the United States Army.

    The Native Americans

    A PBS sponsored site about the Lewis and Clark expedition and the

    numerous Native American tribes in which they came into

    contact.
