Assessment 1

Install microsoft windows 7 opperatng system on your prac laptop as demonstrated by your teacher. The default account should have admin as its username and Password1 as its password. To install windows 7 on a computer I had to access the BIOS of the machine also known as the boot menu in windows 7 and later. The task was to set the boot device as the disk drive housing the installation disk instead of the hard drive which already had a functioning version of windows installed. Once installed a new user account had to be made to access the machine which had a pre-requisite user name and password.

Create a second user account with limited access to the operating system.Once logged in to the admin user account I was required to create a second user account called Leigh which did not have admin rights. The steps to complete the task were simple as I had to access the control panel and select user accounts and family safety. From there I only had to choose to create a new account and change its settings to comply with my task.

Create a 5GB for the account of Leigh you created in 1.2 you have to ake sure you do this in your administrator account. My next task was to create a disk quota for the account I had just set up of 5GB which required me to access the properties menu of the hard drive and select Quota from the tabs at the top. After choosing to show the quota settings I added a quota setting for the user Leigh with the appropriate amount and chose to save the changes.

Connect a printer; install the driver software. Show the printer is installed using the device manager located In the control panelI plugged in a printer and waited for the drivers to install through the popup window that appeared. To show the installation had been successful I opened device manager and scrolled to the unknown drivers, selected the one named brother and chose to update the drivers since they were out of date. Afterward the driver for the printer could be seen in the section for plugged in devices.

The power display options are accessible through the icon at the bottom which displays the power level of the computer. After clicking it I chose to modify the settings for the machine while plugged in since the computer would only function while in such a state. I changed the settings so the computer would turn off the screen after 3 minutes and go to sleep after 10.In a folder after choosing heading organize, I selected folder options and search and selected view before choosing to display the full path of the title bar and deselecting the option to show the popup description for folder and desktop items. After connecting the thumb drive I accessed the drive manager through the computer management and selected the thumb drive. After right clicking I selected to change the drive letter and selected R from the list.I accessed the files necessary for the next part through the folder path and typed in the directory to find them, I transferred the files from the network and copied the assignmentv2 file to the documents folder. I opened the file in LibreOffice, deleted the first page and saved the file as assessmentv2.odt. I then moved the file to the trash folder and emptied it.I utilized the portable version of Recuva to access the assignmentv2 file and restore it to the hard drive through following the on screen prompts. In control panel under system and security, I entered updates and set the options accordingly. In the windows bar I searched for the disk defragmenter that originally comes with the computer. I then ran the defragmenter on the main hard drive and waited for it to be complete. To connect to the ethernet I had to plug in the ethernet cable and wait for the symbol at the bottom right to show a weight computer to signal the Ethernet was connectedTo set the proxy I had to access internet explorer and go in to the options menu. I looked under LAN settings and input the provided proxy settings and port number that would allow the connection through. I then used the command prompt to ping the google website to confirm the connection was clear. While in command prompt I enquired about the machines IP address using ipconfig.I used internet explorer to download Firefox from its home page and installed the application. Firefox on installation is set to the default browser so no modification was necessary there but I needed to access the settings to change the default browser to duckduckgo.I pinned the applications to the taskbar by opening each application in sequence and right clicking on the icon, then selecting pin to task bar.In the control panel under appearance there is an option near the bottom if you scroll down that allows you to change the contrast of the machine which I then set to high.
