Over the past two centuries researchers have found bones and artifacts showing that people like ourselves existed on earth millions of years ago.  But the scientific establishment has ignored these remarkable facts because they contradict the dominant views of human origins and antiquity.  Cremo challenges us to rethink our understanding of human origins, identity, and destiny. arly on the morning of October 11, 2001, I went to the Los

Angeles International Airport to get my flight to Columbus,

Georgia, where I was to speak at the annual meeting of the

Institute for the Study of American Cultures. ISAC is dedicated to

“investigation of pre-Columbian and Native American culture and

history.” Orthodox academic opinion holds that aside from a brief

visit by Vikings, the Americas had no contacts with Old World

cultures before the time of Columbus. But ISAC researchers have

reported abundant evidence of reciprocal contacts between the

Americas and a variety of Old World culture centers, such as

Europe, India, China, and Egypt. I arrived at the Columbus airport,

meditating on the irony of an organization dedicated to dimming

Christopher Columbus’s fame being headquartered here.

My main interest is not pre-Columbian culture contacts between

the New and Old Worlds but the origin of anatomically modern

humans. According to orthodox scientists, humans of our type

came into existence about one-hundred thousand years ago. So

what I look for is evidence that humans of our type existed before

that. In my ISAC lecture, I presented evidence for a human

presence in the Americas that goes back more than one hundred

thousand years. Some of the cases I mentioned were the

Sheguiandah, Canada, artifacts (125,000 years); the Trenton, New

Jersey, human femur (114,000 years); the Calico, California,

artifacts (200,000 years); the Lawn Ridge, Illinois, copper coin

(200,000 years); the Hueyatlaco, Mexico, artifacts (250,000 years);

the Buenos Aires, Argentina, skull (1 million years); the Nampa,

Idaho, human figurine (2 million years); the Miramar, Argentina, flint

Among the other lectures, one that especially caught my attention was Carl Johannessen’s talk on “Photographic Evidence of the Pre-Columbian Movement of Plants Across the Oceans.” It featured photographs of gods and goddesses in temples in South India holding ears of corn. The temples are over one thousand years old. Corn is native to the Americas, and according to standard historical reasoning, it should not have entered the Old World until after the voyages of Columbus, about five hundred years ago.

The ancient Sanskrit writings not only say that humans existed millions of years ago but also that the Vedic culture of India had a worldwide presence. Other speakers pointed out additional signs of contact between India and the Americas, such as lotus and elephant motifs on Central American temples. At the time the temples were constructed, way before Columbus, the lotus and elephant were not, according to standard opinion, found in the New World.

Someday I would like to do a very thorough study of all of this evidence for contacts between India and the Americas (and other parts of the world) and put it together in a book. Professor Stephen Jett, of the University of California atDavis, is one of the leading academic voices arguing in favor of pre-Columbian transoceanic contacts. He is presently working on a scholarly book summarizing the evidence. His talk at Columbus showed that a variety of cultures had both the ships and navigational skills to make voyages across oceans to the New World in ancient times.

In Columbus, I had the good fortune to meet Gloria Farley, the grand dame of early American research. She said she had always wanted to meet me because one of the more extreme anomalies that I documented in Forbidden Archeology come from the town where she lives, Heavener, Oklahoma.

In 1928, Atlas Almon Mathis was working in a coal mine two miles north of Heavener. The shaft went down over ten-thousand feet. Once, Mathis and other miners used dynamite to blast out a new “room” deep in the mine. In a signed affidavit, Mathis said, “The next morning, there were several concrete blocks lying in the room. These blocks were twelve-inch cubes and were so smooth and polished on the outside that all six sides could serve as mirrors. Yet they were full of gravel, because I chipped one of them open with my pick, and it was plain concrete inside.” Mathis added, “As I started to timber the room up, it caved in, and I barely escaped.

When I came back after the cave-in, a solid wall of these polished blocks was left exposed. About 100 to 150 yards farther down our air core, another miner struck this same wall, or one very similar.” The coal at this level is almost 300 million years old.

Gloria was kind enough to give me a copy of her book In Plain Sight: Old World Records in Ancient America, which features an encyclopedic review of anomalous inscriptions on stone, shell, and metal. Dr. Mahan said about this work: “Anyone who reads this book can never again believe that Columbus or even Leif Erickson discovered America. Evidence presented that Old World people were here centuries before is in the form of translated writing on stone and related petroglyphs, which the author has carefully recorded for the past forty-five years.” Gloria’s talk at Columbus was about new discoveries of Old World coins in North America.

Another old friend I met at Columbus was archeologist Neil Steede. We had last met over the summer, in Vienna, where we had both spoken at the Unsolved Mysteries conference organized by Klaus Dona, in connection with his unprecedented exhibition of anomalous archeological artifacts gathered from museums and private collections around the world. Neil, I learned, was a vice president of ISAC. He is well known for his archeoastronomical work, showing that the temple structure at Tihuanaco, Bolivia, was aligned to the solstice and equinox points as they existed about 30 Michael A. Cremo twelve thousand years ago. At the ISAC conference in Columbus, he spoke about sundials found at Comalcalco, Mexico, and also showed similarities between Roman and Mayan dice. Neil has also been involved in some new work going on at the Hueyatlaco, Mexico, site, and he filled me in on some of the results.

Morton Harris asked me to give the after dinner talk at the conference banquet. I spoke on the topic of fraud in archeology, going over some of the things I wrote about.

I can recommend the ISAC annual conference as an excellent opportunity to hear some top quality lectures from an assortment of speakers, ranging from university professors to expert amateurs. The audience is small enough that there is plenty of opportunity for attendees to meet and converse with the speakers over the course of the three-day event.

Introduction

There are three fundamental questions that we have not been able to answer.

• Who are we?

• How did we get here?

• And, why are we here?

As we steadfastly march on the road to an unknown destiny, our ignorance has become our weakness

and our arrogance has become a congenital disease threatening us with our own annihilation. In this

book we will deal with the latest breakthroughs in science and technology, to reach back into the distant

past in an attempt to unravel the extremely vague origins of humankind.

 

It simply makes no sense at all, that as advanced as

we have become, we have no absolute answers

dealing with our origins and ancestry.

• Why has humankind been so obsessed with gold?

• And why are slavery and gold the two common

denominators that can be traced all the way

back to the very dawn of

humankind?

The global population is torn

between hundreds of religions and

cults, all claiming to have the

answers. Any semi-sober person will

realize in an instant that they cannot all be right. Right?

 

And yet it is religious dogma that has held billions of people captive

through preaching death and destruction, threatening punishment by

the ‘all mighty’ to disobedient pilgrims and promising reward and

salvation to those who submit to blind faith.

The past 50 years have seen an explosion of new archaeological discoveries which have stunned

scholars all over the world with its body of information. Over 500,000 clay tablets have been excavated and many of them have been deciphered. It is only in the past 30 years or so, that the true meaning and relevance of the tablets has been identified by a handful of broad thinkers. What was originally believed to be myth or fantasy, mainly due to ignorance by so-called scholars, has turned out to be documented historic evidence so fantastic, that it shakes the very essence of our existence.

I would like to take you on a journey of discovery, using the latest translations and revelations of the many tablets that speak about ancient events, long before a single word of the Bible was written. It is shocking to find that none of the stories of the book of Genesis are original, but rather watered down versions of much older stories conveyed in great detail in ancient clay tablets.

 Our journey will weave through precious detailed information which was left behind by our ancient ancestors, probably never realizing that it would be treated with such suspicion.

The uncanny coincidences which link the many ancient civilizations by the same pantheon of ‘mythical gods’ are too fantastic to be accidental. We now have irrefutable evidence that there were strange powers on Earth who ruled the early humans with an iron fist. They dispensed punishment and demanded absolute obedience from the primitive new species. We will uncover the slow and painful path the newly created human race had to travel and the crucial role played by more advanced deities who had ulterior motives for our existence.

 We will uncover the terrible truth that the human race was indeed created in the image of our maker, but the maker was not who we’ve been led to believe. We will

unmask the god of the Bible and other major religions, showing the difference between God with a big ‘G’ as opposed to god with a small ‘g’. 

The god who constantly displays humanlike behavior, the god of vengeance we know from the Bible, turns out to be a god with a small ‘g’. Some characters will be instantly recognizable, while others have been so distorted by latter translators that we will need a little polishing to identify them. Many more questions will be raised as we postulate new theories surrounding our origins, demystifying God and allowing the reader to experience the much bigger picture of possibility.

With the help of science and the corroborative evidence from thousands of ancient clay tablets, we are now able to weave together the full story which I like to refer to as the ...

‘Great Human Puzzle’.

The thousands of years it took for the ‘slave species’ to progress from their labour camps in southern Africa, to the point about 9,000 years ago, when a wave of sudden civilization spread around the world. From India, the Near East, Europe and the Americas. This journey will also resolve the many archaeological dilemmas regarding the missing link, which is clearly outlined by our advanced ancestors. We dispel the myth and the dogma that has kept humankind ignorant and fearful for far too long. The advances we have made in genetic engineering will help us understand that just because we can create life, it does not make us God.

We dispel archaic myths that belong in the dark ages and provide clear thinking individuals with the information to reach new conclusions. I would like to share with every reader the same incredible sense of discovery that I personally experienced as I unraveled the utter rubbish which I was conditioned to believe through my formative years. As terrible as this ‘new truth’ may sound, it will be the most liberating experience you will have.

Ever since I first became interested in genetics, it has always intrigued me that such an important part of our anatomy, the genome, a molecular structure so refined, should have been created incomplete. Actually, the truth is that the genome was created in abundance, with large parts of the structure that are not being used at all. It is as if the inactive parts of the genome are waiting for some extrinsic factor to switch them on.• The question begs, which unimaginable characteristics or super abilities are

the dormant parts of the genome not controlling? • What human abilities are they hiding? • And how has this affected our evolution as a species?

The genome is just another name for the full complement of genes and DNA contained by an individual. In humans, the genome consists of 23 pairs of chromosomes which contain the entire genetic programme for that specific individual and is located in the nucleus of every cell in our bodies. This genetic programme controls all the information that allows us to grow and function. Our genome is unique for every individual and every species. When we are born, we are blissfully unaware of what awaits us. There might be seven ages of man, but it all ends up woven together into a long reality performance directed by some invisible force.

Despite the 6,5 billion people who populate the Earth , the human race is a rather fragile and primitive species. No matter how intelligent and smart we think we are, we constantly display signs of basic animal behaviour that can lead to the decimation of our kind in the blink of an eye. We have waged war on our fellow man throughout history and continue to do so into the 21 century. There always seems to be a moral high ground or justification for our action.

The Bible is filled with prophets and other individuals who for thousands of years had a direct link to god and who on a regular basis received instructions from god to do certain things. When reading the Bible it is not only deemed normal, but it is expected of us to take for granted and to believe that a number of ‘chosen’ people received such regular instructions from god. Not only did they receive clear instructions and warnings, they received physical instructions in the form of the Ten Commandments and rewards of a material kind, like land or cattle.

 

Chapter 1 Animal behavior

The simple historic fact remains, that god actually physically interacted with man. Today, such claims of a physical interaction with god would draw strong criticism and ridicule. Why is that? Is it perhaps that such events in prehistory cannot affect us here today? We seem to accept it when it happened in ancient history, almost reduced to some fantastic fairy tale of our struggle for freedom. Or is it simply because we are too scared to analyze the facts for fear of victimization by placing such arguments in the public domain? These questions have troubled me for most of my life.

And who, and when, decided that the Bible had reached its conclusion? That it was now enough, it is now the end, and the final chapter must be written! Obviously this was another man, inspired by god and dictated to by the Holy Spirit!  Surely the quest for truth and salvation continues? Surely the atrocities on Earth have not abated; surely the people of the Earth need ongoing guidance and instructions from god on how to deal with modern day mayhem and crime; how to respond to dictators; how to survive colonization, racism, invasions and other inventions of ‘evil’ minds.

Our capacity for cruelty as a species has reached unbearable proportions. We make rules as civilized beings, only to be abused and used against us by less civilized individuals with a good knowledge of the legal system. Those who preach peace and love and turning the other cheek, have become the weakened victims of their own philosophy.

Now, more than ever, people need salvation. They need something real to believe in and to hold onto in times when all hope seems to have vanished.• So why are the scriptures not ongoing? • Why is god not dictating more wisdom through one of his prophets? • Or many of his prophets?

Some say He is. Many claim they are in contact with god on a regular basis.

But then we start to look at who we really are, and the road we have travelled as a species on this planet, only to realize that our presence here does not even equate to the ‘tip of the iceberg’. We marvel at dinosaur fossils and talk about what it must have been like here on Earth when dinosaurs roamed. We throw around numbers like ‘60 million years’, when they were extinct; ‘200 million years’ when T-Rex caused havoc and ‘400 million years’ ago really makes us gasp at the fossils of insects in the museums. Then we start comparing the timescale to famous events in our own frame of reference. The First World War 100 years ago; Leonardo da Vinci 500 years ago; the Vikings some 1 200 years ago; Mohammed some 1 400 years ago; Jesus 2 000 years ago; the pyramids 4 000 years ago; the last ice age some 13 000 years ago; by then most of us run out of reference points.

And then one day something miraculous happens. We lift our eyes up at the night sky filled with billions of stars and we try to imagine infinity. Someone points out Mars and Jupiter. And then you look through a telescope and for the first time you see Saturn with its rings and even several of its moons, and suddenly the reality of it all changes somewhat. It all becomes a little bit bigger. You look at Alpha Centauri and realize that the light from the closest star to us takes five years to reach us, traveling at 300 000 km per second. You go to a lecture by an astronomer and see pictures of galaxies so far away, it is impossible to imagine the distance. Galaxies a billion light years away. Super-cluster galaxies five billion light years away; ultra hot quasars some 12 billion light years away right at the edge of the known universe and then… some 13.8 billion light years away… just blackness. Nothing. You sit in silent contemplation as you try to digest the reality of what you have just witnessed. You have just looked beyond the edge of the known universe, where nothing exists.

But when you wake up in the morning and you try to explain your epiphany to a group of close friends, they share your excitement for exactly 15 seconds before one of them pronounces “Hey, did you guys check that lekker (nice) movie on TV last night?”

With all the valiant attempts and sometimes remarkable discoveries by archaeologists, we still cannot pinpoint the origin of humankind. Oh, scores of scientist will argue and give you all kinds of evidence and proof, only to be rewritten by some new scientist five years from now. It is all calculated speculation presented to us either as scientific hypotheses or religious dogma. But in reality, all it ends up being, is more manipulation of the pieces of the Great Human Puzzle. We cannot tell when civilized man first walked the Earth and we cannot tell when man was created or how man evolved, with a definite level of certainty.

Lets face it, the past two centuries have led to amazing discoveries of ancient civilizations, lost cities and a closer understanding of the people who developed these ancient cultures. Cultures that displayed remarkable knowledge and understanding of science and the cosmos. It has taken us decades to decipher the various texts or styles of writing by the many extinct cultures. With all our knowledge and sophistication, we have not deciphered the Balkan-Danube script and the Indus Script to date.

The diversity of these ancient civilizations, from the ancient Chinese, various cultures of the Americas, the hieroglyphs of the Egyptians, to the cuneiform scriptures of the Sumerians, the lost cities of Asia, have baffled historians and archaeologists alike. It has taken us by complete surprise to discover ancient libraries, such as the library of King Ashurbanipal at Nineveh, with around 30 000 cuneiform clay tablets of scriptures that point to great knowledge by lost civilizations.

It is curious to discover the extended knowledge of astronomers as early as six thousand years ago with detailed information of our own solar system, describing it in great detail. 

We read about ancient gods who roamed and ruled the Earth, in chariots that flew in from the stars and conflicts and betrayal between these ancient gods. We read about brave men who achieved great things in the distant past and wisdom which was imparted to man by the many gods who came from the stars.

The ability to extract precious metals from ore in the ground, while the production of gold, copper, tin and bronze as early as nine thousand years ago, points to clear understanding of metallurgical procedure. The ancient ruins of the Americas with visible extraction and mining activity explain why there was an unimaginable wealth of gold in this part of the world long before Columbus, Cortes or the other savages who set foot there only a few hundred years ago. The further inexplicable evidence of ore mining in southern Africa as far back as 100 000 years ago, is simply too much for even the bravest of archaeologists to accept.

The knowledge of medical procedure and genetic manipulation, the creation of the ‘Adamu’ and a new species, is clearly documented in ancient tablets which have only recently been understood by so-called intelligent man.

The power of wireless communication and geophysical knowledge to anticipate natural disaster ; all this wealth of information stares us bluntly in the face. And yet, we cannot come to terms with the fact that we may not be the pinnacle of intelligence that has inhabited the planet.

Since the rapid evolution of the computer, our ability to document and match this ancient wisdom has enabled us to understand it more clearly. But what do we do with all this information when standing face-to-face with incredible tales from prehistory? We have two choices. Either we believe that it has been left for future civilizations to use and build upon, or we discard it as hallucinogenic garbage by some primitive idiots from a stone age, not worthy of our attention.

But the fact that only 500 years ago men were burnt at the stake for suggesting that Earth was not the centre of the universe; the human body was a mysterious vessel that was studied and dissected by daring scientists risking their lives in the early hours of the morning; that we only discovered the last three planets in our solar system in the past 200 years, are clear indication that we are not the super race.

Many convey god’s messages in packed churches and other places of worship. How does the global community respond to individuals who make fantastic claims of miracles, and hearing god’s voice, and having the answer? Well, in many cases these modern prophets rise to a cult status with a blind following of disciples who will respond to every command, while in other cases they are reduced to cranks with a loose screw.

So, how should a judge in the 21st century respond to a guy who tied up his ten-year-old daughter to a table in the back yard, and who was caught by police in the process of stabbing her to death or slitting her throat? If he claims that god had instructed him to sacrifice her to prove his obedience to the all mighty lord, should such a character be seen as an example of a modern faithful or a psychopath? Yet we look at Abraham as a faithful man of god with strong principles and a leader of men because he obeyed god’s instructions to ‘kill’ his own son. The Bible however calls it ‘sacrifice’. Would we see it as such if it happened today in a wealthy suburb of Johannesburg or Paris?

It is truly a confusing state of religious activity out there. Thousands of religions, all of them man-made, all claiming that they have the answer. Only ‘their’ followers will be saved by the maker and bask in the pleasures of paradise. It seems that the more money they have, the more power they wield and the closer to god’s ear they can get.

And so the religious argument begins, and we clearly display the primitive side of our low evolutionary state. Are these the primitive characteristics which could be controlled by the inactive genes? We look at the past great civilizations and somehow feel superior. The fact that we cannot explain many things from prehistory is quickly discarded as ‘who cares about the Egyptians… they’re all dead’. In the light of all our achievements and scientific discoveries, the more we evolve, the stronger the religious dogma becomes. It seems that the religious dogma, which could also be called fanaticism in this case, is directly linked to money. The wealthier a nation, the more they can enforce their particular religious views on others. The USA may claim that they are a ‘free’ society in all respects, but that is mainly because they feel a sense of comfort among their 96% Christian community. It is safe for them to allow the minority ‘rogue’ religions to waste their time on their own meaningless salvation.

We are the sub-species. Our arrogance is our weakness and our ignorance, a congenital disease that will eventually destroy us. The dogma has consumed us and the fear controls us. But why are we so blind to the facts and evidence that surround us? Why are we so obsessed with popular religions that mostly bow to a god who uses retribution and punishment as a form of control? If we all come from the same maker, we should all have the same set of rules on how to obey that maker, but this is clearly not the case. Religious conflict has torn our history apart for millennia and still hangs over our heads into the 21 century like a cancer waiting to devour us.

In this book we will discover that our disorder is the direct result of our bastard race status, with unpredictable animal behaviour lurking in our manipulated double helix DNA. Our intelligence has been suppressed, our knowledge has been erased, our lifespan has been genetically shortened and our memory has been removed. We are an inferior, genetically cloned mutation of the great civilizations of the past, left behind to pick up the pieces, or to put together the pieces of the Great Human Puzzle.

We have made remarkable progress in the field of genetic engineering, but just because we have been able to ‘map’ the genome, does not mean we know everything about it. On the contrary. The more we learn about the genome, the more we marvel at its complexity. We seem to understand the basic principle of the double helix, but we are far from understanding all its functions.

What we are especially perplexed by, are the large sections that seem to be ‘switched off’. Yes, it is curious to learn that

there are large parts of the genome which are not active.

Ever since I first became interested in the study of the genome, I have been fascinated by the strange phenomenon, that such a masterful part of our anatomy, a molecular structure so refined, should have been created incomplete. That kind of discovery flies directly in the face of all evolutionary processes. But the real truth is that the genome was created in abundance, with far more DNA in our cells than we need for our primitive form. It is as if the inactive parts of the genome are waiting for some extrinsic factor to switch them on.

This begs the question. If the genome controls all our characteristics and bodily functions, then what is it that is not controlled by the inactive parts of the genome? I firmly believe that this is the ultimate question of humanity. What inert secret powers are being locked up behind the inactive parts of our genetic structure?

Let’s take a quick look at the history of genetic discovery. While there is clear evidence of prehistoric genetic activity and manipulation dating back to some 250 000 years ago, modern man has only rediscovered the genome in the 1950s.

In 1866 Gregor Mendel published the results of his investigations of the inheritance of ‘factors’ in pea plants, but it was only in the 1950s that the chemical structure of the DNA was rediscovered by modern scientists. They finally had a name for it Deoxyribonucleic acid. The people involved in this breakthrough were Maurice Wilkins, Rosalind Franklin, Francis H. C. Crick and James D. Watson. With this discovery they started a whole new branch of science, namely molecular biology. In the same decade, Watson and Crick made history when they made the first model of the DNA molecule, showing its twisted double helix structure, and proved that genes determine heredity. In 1957 Arthur Kornberg produced DNA in a test tube.

1963 saw F. Sanger develop the sequencing procedure for proteins. By 1966 a real breakthrough was made when the genetic code was discovered. Scientists were now able to predict characteristics by studying DNA. This very quickly evolved into genetic engineering and genetic counselling.

In 1972 Paul Berg produced the first recombinant DNA molecule, and in 1983 Barbara McClintock was awarded the Nobel Prize for her discovery that genes are able to change position on chromosomes. In the late 1980s an international team of scientists began the tedious and demanding task of mapping the human genome, and the first crime conviction based on DNA fingerprinting, in Portland Oregon took place.

 By 1990 gene therapy was used on patients for the first time. In 1993 Dr. Kary Mullis discovered the PCR procedure, for which he was awarded the Nobel prize. In 1994 the FDA approved the first genetically engineered food. These were FlavrSavr tomatoes engineered for better flavour and shelf-life.

By 1995 criminal DNA forensics made headlines in the O.J. Simpson trial. In 1997 Dolly the Sheep was cloned as the first adult animal clone. 1998 saw the senate inquiry into the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal based largely on DNA evidence and in the year 2000 J. Craig Venter, along with Francis Collins, jointly announced the completion of the mapping and sequencing of the entire human genome. This was a major achievement that took almost 10 years less than originally expected. In 2003 Craig Venter launched a global expedition to obtain and study microbes from environments ranging from the world’s oceans to urban centres. This mission will yield a definitive insight into genes that make up the vast realm of microbial life. And now the true genetic era is upon us. The first pet cloning company opened their doors for business in the USA in 2004. In essence, we have become the creators of species. And so we have become ‘god’ to those species we create.

The more we discover in the Cradle of Humankind in South Africa, the more we can genetically link the various peoples of the world to half a dozen original individuals in southern Africa; the more evidence we get from female mitochondrial DNA that the first human was born around 250 000 years ago, the more the pieces of the puzzle seem to fit. In this book we will explore written evidence that places such a group of primordial humans in southern Africa some 200 000 years ago, at about the time when the Adam was supposed to have been created.

When I first started placing these pieces together, I was doubtful that something so fantastic could be a possibility. But if you allow yourself the freedom of thought and possibility, you will discover an incredible story with a clear vision of the past and you will begin to unravel the great steps of humanity that brought us here.

This brings us to the age old question.“Who are we… and why are we here?”No, it is not really a ‘hey-shoo-wow’ kind of question, it is possibly one of the most complex riddles of our species, which deserves a fresh new look and possibly a slightly less conventional approach if we want to reach new and refreshing answers. But then we must be prepared to face answers we may not have expected. This is what I intend to share with you in this book.

What may at first seem like a horror story, will turn out to be the most liberating experience that brought me much closer to god than I ever imagined possible. Once again I have to draw your attention to the difference between god, the creator of the universe and all things in it; and ‘god’ one of many deities who walked the Earth over millennia, wielding power, knowledge and technology with which they ruled over humanity.

There is good news for those who believe in the ‘creation’ theory, that man was created by god and given certain rules to live by. Those who believe in the evolutionary theory have a few surprises to face. Evidence that has been uncovered and contained in the many Sumerian tablets, suggests that the ‘Adamu’ was created here on Earth in the image of his ‘maker’.

But who created Adam and when, will reveal that he was created by an advanced species of deities for a specific purpose here on Earth some 200 000 to 250 000 years ago. We further learn from the tablets that Adam was created from the genetic pool of the advanced species of humans on Earth and a lesser evolved hominid that roamed in southern Africa. But who were these ‘advanced humans’ and where did they appear from? And why is there no fossil evidence of their existence?

I must once again remind you of the dilemma we face when we contemplate such outlandish theories, as most, if not all of our facts come from prehistoric clay tablets that have been deciphered over the last 50 years of the 20 century. We have to make a personal choice, whether we believe that what was written in these tablets is close enough to the truth, or whether it is merely some hallucinogenic garbage from a time when people’s minds did not function properly. I, for one, have made my decision to take at face value what has been written. I cannot imagine for one minute that thousands of people spent millions of man-hours painstakingly creating these tablets, if their contents were less than relevant. I am convinced that they had better things to do than trying to confuse future generations about our origins. After all, we have not really changed that much; we also want to leave evidence of our intellect and achievements, not only for future generations but also for other advanced species in the vastness of the universe.

Why else would we send space probes filled with human paraphernalia, videos, compact discs, books, photographs, TV shows and other symbols of our existence into space? At the back of our minds and against the belief of millions, there is the faint hope that there may be advanced life somewhere in the universe. If there is, we hope to dazzle it with our brilliance or disappoint them with our ignorance, all depending on how evolved they may be by the time they accidentally recover our earthly ‘space ark’. 

It has always amazed me how many people show a complete disregard for history. To many, what happened in the past, simply does not matter. But if we don’t know who we are and where we come from, how can we possibly begin to understand where we might be going, on our path of progress and evolution?

So we toil away and dream of better days. We close ourselves in cocoons of comfort, position our blinkers squarely on our heads and try not to step too far out of the lane of conformity. We believe that if we work hard or if we work smart we will achieve some sort of reward at the end of all of this. We take out insurance policies to reward our offspring and retirement annuities to cruise through the last few years of our own time on this planet. We keep procreating as if we were programmed to do so. It seems to be a natural step in our maturing process. And unbeknown to us, it is most likely driven by our genome in an attempt to continue surviving while our DNA evolves towards its own completion. On this path of evolution it unlocks the secret parts which have been switched off by some alchemist in our distant past.

We pray for health, wealth and happiness. Some dream of eternal life and many pray for salvation, but deep inside there seems to bubble the burning desire to find answers to the great human question… ‘Who am I and why am I here?’.

History gives us many clues about who we may be, and by stringing together the events and behavioral patterns of humans in the past, history does give us some clues as to where we are heading. Whether we will survive to get there is another question all together.

History does not however always clearly answer the question of who we are and where we come from. Historians, archaeologists and anthropologists have painted a very predictable past for us. Aside from the arguments between creationists and evolutionists, the story of humanity and humankind has become an almost pretty fairytale, and most humans do not want their fairytale disrupted. Humanity rose from the ashes against all odds; we survived and grew in numbers while spreading over the Earth. We discovered fire, iron, bronze, silver and gold. We learnt new skills, adopted farming instead of roaming, buried our dead, learnt to live in structured communities, learnt to write and built cities to protect us from the bad guys.

Then we learnt to trade, found democracy, discovered mechanization, discovered technology, reached for the stars, and all the time we have been killing each other in the name of our god, our king, or for some other perfectly justifiable reason. It is truly a miracle that we have survived all this. It is clear that somewhere in our DNA, there is a violent gene that plays a prominent role in human behaviour.

This is a great story, but it only really deals with the past 6 000 years or so. Prior to this it gets very murky and somehow the timing does not seem to fit. The question of the missing link is now more relevant than ever before. Our genome has certainly evolved to the point where we can at least ponder these questions and challenge some of the obvious conventions. But this evolution seems to be more spiritual or mental. Physical evolution is debatable. If we have not really evolved physically in the past 6 000 years since the Egyptians and Sumerians, why should we believe that we underwent some dramatic evolution the previous 6 000 years… or the 10 000 years before that? It appears that our genome has been evolving around the mental parts only. As if we had some catching up to do mentally. This kind of genetic imbalance seems to point to some sort of tampering in the ancient past.

Survival of the fittest has been embraced as one of the pivotal evolutionary arguments. Terms like ‘natural selection’ have been introduced and presented with dramatic evidence. It may have been the case in the protozoa, the dinosaurs or the horse, but there seem to be serious gaps in the prehistoric evolutionary patterns of humans.

Dramatic jumps in evolution which will form part of my argument, point to the horrible truth that we are a slave species, purposefully created to perform a mundane function here on this Earth. It is for us to collect the clues and string them together to formulate a sensible answer. Some will not find any sense in my logic, but some will hopefully become more tolerant of the unknown and the forbidden questions of the past. One of the highest hurdles to cross, will be the real possibility that we might have to come to terms with two gods. One with a capital ‘G’ and the other with a small ‘g’. The difference between the two should be obvious and our prehistory seems to be filled with events which tend to favor the needs and whims of the latter.

• Have we been conned since the beginning, to believe that some form of advanced deity was actually god?

• If so, did he give us the rules, the scriptures and the punishment? • Was it in his image that we were created? •

There is an overwhelming amount of written evidence pointing to this conclusion. Do we start to take this ancient knowledge more seriously, giving it the respect it deserves, or do we respond to our overwhelming enslavement by dogma, and discard all this ancient knowledge? I will leave it up to you to draw your own conclusions.

H o w C a n L i t t l e Green Men be Made in the image of God?The new Director of the Vatican Observatory announced fairly

recently that it was all right to believe in extra-terrestrials, and

that such a belief did not conflict with belief in God. I wasn't sure

what to make of the statement since I couldn't figure out any way

in which belief in aliens could ever be construed as counting against

belief in God - quite the contrary. And while an interview with the

Vatican Astronomer is a far cry indeed from an official Church

statement, it was given some weight by the fact that it appeared in

the official Vatican newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano.

But a few days later the British Ministry of Defense announced a

four-year program to release previously classified documents

about UFOs into the National Archives. I wondered if it was just

co-incidence.

There is a time bomb ticking at the heart of all the main western religions and it has to do with the troubled subject of aliens. The vastness of even the visible universe can be realized by anybody nowadays by viewing the extraordinary images from the Hubble Telescope. And when you see that, it's very easy to realize the depth of arrogance needed to believe that the human race on this earth is the only intelligent form life in the entire universe, or that all life would have to occur in our form of it. To make matters worse we don't seem to be even living in prime real estate: we are situated in the very boondocks of what is itself a comparatively rural galaxy. Oh for

the happy times of Galileo and Giordano Bruno, when the only issue that troubled the Church was whether the sun revolved around the earth or vice versa.

It's a public secret that reported sightings of UFOs and the dramatic quality of them has escalated over the past few years. From time to time rumors circulate that authoritative statements on the subject from major world governments is anticipated, not all of those rumors coming from conspiracy theorists. If this should ever happen it would pose enormous difficulties for all the main tenets of almost every major Christian belief system.

Most of the Christian churches and denominations have managed to turn their basic message into a proclamation that the creation as a whole is in a fallen state. From this condition it can be rescued only by God sending his only Son to suffer and die for our sins so as to appease God's anger against us. If the existence of aliens were ever to be undeniably proven the mind can only boggle at the extent of the enormous doctrinal updating the Churches would be faced with to accommodate that fact within their belief system's view of reality. Belief in aliens may not threaten belief in God, but it would certainly pose enormous difficulties for almost every other major belief held by the western religions. The matter of course would be

made immeasurably more difficult for them since the main religions maintain their central doctrinal beliefs are perennially true and irreformable, and so cannot be updated.

However, let's take look at some of the main alterations that would have to be made to accommodate that fact that aliens exist and where they fit into the scheme of things, particularly into God's plan; what beliefs might have to be jettisoned or adapted, what new ones adopted?

If God is supposed to have "made man in his own image" then in whose image would the proverbial little green men from outer space be made? And what if we were to discover that our definition of life was hopelessly narrow and left no room for life forms so different from ours that they didn't need oxygen, hydrogen, or even a carbon base? And what if the claims of some scientists made earlier this month came true that within a decade, on the basis of some current research discoveries, they anticipate being able to artificially generate life, which would have no connection with any life form known on this earth? Maybe at that stage we would have to realize that the way we have couched the relationship of God to the origin of life is hopelessly dated and outmoded.

The western religions believe that life began as the result of a specific and personal divine intervention. Some minor groups even go so far as to maintain that this all happened during a particularly busy week for God about 6,000 years ago.

The Christian religions of the west believe that the fallen state of the race began on the fatal day a talking serpent cajoled that famous r ib-woman into eating fruit from a magic tree.

It is equally believed that the only hope for the human race now is a rescue by Jesus,

God's only Son incarnate. Jesus is seen as a savior, not just a savior but a universal savior, so that all access to God by rational and intelligent forms of life, and access to their destiny, is possible only through him, and through his agents here on earth whom he has sub-delegated.

But suppose for purposes of argument that one day aliens were proven beyond doubt to exist. Where would this scheme of things leave them? Or more to the point, where would it leave Jesus, or r a ther the Churches version of Jesus?

Al l of th is imaginar y scenario reminds of a situation five hundred years ago when a series of frenzied debates took place at the renowned University of Salamanca in Spain. The debates were

provoked by the Conquistadores discovery of the many races of "Indians" in the New World of the Americas north and south. If every human being is supposed to have descended from our first parents, Adam and Eve, how did these people get there, since up to now at least Adam and Eve and their descendants had no means of crossing the great oceans? If they didn't descend from Adam and Eve how could they be human? And of course if they weren't human it was perfectly all right to plunder them of their vast treasures of gold and silver to swell the coffers of Europe. Fortunately the majority of the expert Spanish theologians eventually accepted that they were human. They left the historical problems of Adam's and Eve's transportation system to be solved by someone else at later date.

So how would extraterrestrials relate to the progenitors of the human race? If Adam and Eve had no boats capable of crossing the Atlantic most assuredly they had no interplanetary craft. Or how would they relate to Jesus, whom the entire Christian system wants us to accept came as a savior to rescue the human race from the worst effects of their ancestors' blunder?

In recent times many thinkers who contemplate qualities such as emotion, intelligence and memory in what we are pleased to term the sub-human forms of life on this earth, such as cats, dogs, horses, dolphins, whales, or birds, are willing to attribute to them something of spirit. It's often phrased: "They have a soul, but it's a lesser grade then the human soul." So, to use this terminology, if aliens did not descend from Adam and Eve, do they still have a soul, and is it a lesser, greater or equal grade of soul to that possessed by humans?

Sophisticated literature that claims to have an alien origin is abundant these days. As in all other areas of life the fake is liable to outnumber the genuine

by a hundred to one. But one thing is notable above al l e lse in some of that literature, the high quality of its spirituality. The same of course is true in relation to much of

the spiritual literature that forms the body of this earth's religious traditions. While in general subscribing to these exalted concepts what's remarkable about us is the degree to which we ignore them in practice. Indeed some of this allegedly alien literature assesses the human race as far more barbaric and less evolved than the aliens are. We have grown so unthinkingly accustomed to measuring everything from a human-centered standpoint that the bitterest pill of all would be having to accept that at least some extraterrestrials might turn out to be superior to us.

That superiority to us of course should come as no surprise if they had a technology capable of taking them to this earth. At that point we should start to fervently hope that their spiritual development had kept pace with or surpassed their technological progress.

Where would all of this leave Jesus or indeed God, as they are envisaged in the Christian systems? Is Jesus now to be demoted from being the Universal Savior? Or did God separately also send him to those alien races in some appropriate local form, just as he came among us a human?

Maybe in pondering what would be the implications for our beliefs, if alien beings exist, we can manage to prune, refine and make those central everyday beliefs of ours more consonant with the facts. Maybe for far too long we have held them unquestioned within a system of knowledge about reality which was seriously deficient?

Maybe the truth is that Jesus did not come here to suffer and die for our sins to appease God's vengeance against us? Such an interpretation in any case doesn't do much for either Jesus or God. Indeed one might ask have we ever pondered the hugely negative impact such a picture has for how we imagine God to be, or Jesus to be? What kind of father would demand the suffering and death of his only son who was completely innocent? What kind of son would willingly comply with that sentence and at the same time never cease to speak of the profundity of God's love for us all, which is totally belied by that very picture?

The Greek tradition in Catholic theology has always maintained from the most ancient times that the work of Jesus had nothing to do with appeasement of God's anger and everything to do with the making divine of the human being. It's an insight of which most western theologians down the centuries have either been ignorant or have chosen to ignore.

What atrocities and suffering would have been avoided over the last thousand years if such a different view of Jesus and salvation had held more general sway?

Or perhaps the aliens' ancestors were more fortunate than ours and never had to ward off the unwelcome attentions of whatever their equivalent of that talking serpent would be. If that were so then they wouldn't need to be saved or redeemed.

If they did not need this, then by our theological standards they would have to be immortal or at least extremely long lived, since both the Old and the New Testaments regard death as the result of "the Fall," and not part of the original scheme of things at all.

The pictures of God and human destiny in western Christianity were eventually to become exclusively shaped within the context of sin and redemption, and now Christianity can no longer think outside that box it seems. As a result nowadays it seems almost impossible to think of Jesus, or indeed of Christianity itself, except in terms of the suffering and bloodied savior who struggled up the hill of Calvary to die for our sins. Consequently trying to envisage a race that would neither have "fallen" or be in need of redemption, actually smacks of the impious to us. Maybe part of the reason might be that we are beginning to suspect our own race might be in a similar position, and because we sense the catastrophic implications that would have for our major belief systems.

So if our picture of God and human destiny was totally shaped by the consciousness of sin and redemption how differently would an alien race, which had not "fallen," picture God? And would they worship such a God, or is worship just one other downside that comes from the context of our unfortunate history?

If God could and did create other worlds and beings to inhabit them, did he then also create another heaven for them, or do we have to share with them what we always thought was exclusively ours? Do they need their own Devil to test them, and do they have a private Purgatory, Limbo and Hell? And if they do not, why not?

But of course in this imaginative scenario which I put out here for the sake of pondering the ways in which some very deep matters have been formulated historically by the religions, the biggest question of all would have to be not whether there are other heavens, hells or saviors, or the lack of them, but why there is no mention at all, or even a hint, of any of this stuff in the Scriptures or in the doctrinal

traditions? If aliens exist that is quite a problem.

Posing imaginative scenarios like this can often help us to prune and refine our beliefs and tell us where we have drifted off the mark in the ways in which we have responded to God knows what historical circumstances down through history. In many ways it's reminiscent of the bizarre and complicated system of cycles and epicycles which the Ptolemaic astronomers over time had to introduce into their theories to reconcile their belief in an earth-centered solar system with the actual rotation of the planets. When the Copernican theories came to be known, the entire paradigm changed and the complexity of the Ptolemaic system was seen to be useless and redundant. When too many qualifications, complications and mental gymnastics have to be introduced into any system its time to recognize that the real problem may well be that the original insights got the matter wrong. If that is the case no amount of subsequent modification of the original insights will ever rectify the matter.

It's only four hundred years since Giordano Bruno was burned at the stake in Rome for suggesting that God might have created other worlds on which intelligent beings would relate to God in their own way. If the reality of extraterrestrial life ever becomes impossible to deny then the Church will come to mourn bitterly the loss of that four hundred year head start which Bruno's invitation offered to it.

With all due respect to the new Vatican Astronomer the fact that belief in aliens doesn't threaten belief in God should be the least of his worries. Almost every other religious doctrine would be challenged to the very core by that fact. Furthermore, by interpreting the whole reality of God and Jesus so exclusively in terms of sin and redemption, the religions have maneuvered themselves into such a corner that effectively dealing with such a major doctrinal crisis would be almost impossible without jettisoning the majority of its system of beliefs. Maybe this semi-official interview in L'Osservatore, as well as the similar statements over several years past by the Vatican's official Exorcist, Monsignor Corrado Balducci, might well be the humble beginnings of an effort to avoid being too blindsided if the worst ever came to the worst.

While traveling in the US from the southwest to Hawaii, and in South America, I've seen a number of sites with petroglyphs and pictoglyphs, with humanoid figures that some people describe as alien-like.

A Google search will reveal many such early-man rock art sites throughout the world. We'll probably never know the precise origins of the figures, whether simply coincidental representations of early mankind or perhaps something a bit more not of this earth. I've sometimes joked that perhaps the wars, chaos, and other negative energies the human race on the planet has and is experiencing, represents an early alien science/biology experiment that has gone horribly wrong. The Evolutionary Cycles of

Creation and Catastrophe:

The Case for Intelligent Design?

In a previous article titled, “A Day and Night of Brahma: The

Evidence from Fossil Records”1, I have pointed out that the ancient

Vedic texts tell us of a 24 million year cycle of cosmic creation and

dissolution, known as the “Day and Night of Brahma”. At the

beginning of a “Day of Brahma” (which extends for 12 million years),

the universe is created from unmanifested matter; and at the end of

the Day of Brahma the physical universe is destroyed and is

dissolved into the waters of the Primordial Ocean. This is followed

by a “Night of Brahma” which is of equal duration as the Day of

Brahma, when no life forms exist. And when the Night of Brahma is

over, the creative process is initiated once again. Thus, we have a

cyclical 24 million year period of cosmic creation and

dissolution. Amazingly enough, the same information is

reflected in the fossil records, which indicate that every 26

million years there is a mass extinction of species on the

earth. Even the dates of the previous extinction events, projected

from the information in the Sanskrit text Vishnu Purana, correlates

very well with the extinction dates calculated from the fossil data.

And, quite incredibly, there is an exact match with the extinction

event that wiped out the dinosaurs 65.5 million years ago!

The 26 million year cycle of mass extinction has significant implications for evolutionary biology. As

per Darwinism, the evolutionary process is gradual, and life forms evolve slowly through a process

of “natural selection”. Yet, a gradual process of evolution through natural selection appears to be

markedly absent in paleontological records. In addition, evolution seems to be guided by

extraterrestrial factors. The presence of enhanced levels of iridium in the soil layers at the

geological boundaries, as well as the discovery of impact craters on the earth that match with the

extinction periodicity, have convinced scientists that the extinction events have been triggered by

large body impacts from outer space. David Raup, paleontologist at the University of Chicago,

who along with Jack Sepkoski had identified the extinction periodicity in the fossil records, states:

“The implications of periodicity for evolutionary biology are profound. The most obvious is

that the evolutionary system is not ‘alone’ in the sense that it is partially dependent upon

external influences more profound than the local and regional environmental changes

normally considered... With kill rates for species estimated to have been as high as 77%

and 96% for the largest extinctions, the biosphere is forced through narrow bottlenecks

and the recovery from these events is usually accompanied by fundamental changes in

biotic composition. Without these perturbations, the general course of macroevolution

could have been very different.”2

He further states that, “the largest mass extinctions produce major restructuring of the biosphere

wherein some successful groups are eliminated, allowing previously minor groups to expand and

diversify…There is little evidence that extinction is selective in the positive sense argued by Darwin.

It has generally been impossible to predict, before the fact, which species will be victims of an

extinction event.”3

Raup’s observations that the extinction or survival of a species is a “chance event”, is supported

by the studies done by Macquarie University paleobiologist John Alroy. He says, “Mass extinction

fundamentally changes the dynamics. It changes the composition of the biosphere forever. You

can’t simply predict the winners and losers from what groups have done before”4. The mass

extinction event itself is short lived, very often below the resolving power of geologic record

(<10,000 years), and possibly instantaneous. The term “ Evolution by Catastrophe” was coined by

Rampino in the “Encyclopedia of Planetary Sciences” to describe the evolutionary effect of the

cyclical mass extinction events.

Mass extinctions are not the only curious phenomenon in the fossil records which contradicts the principles

of Darwinian evolution. In 1972, Harvard paleontologists Steven Jay Gould and Niles Eldredge proposed

the theory of Punctuated Equilibrium. Gould and Eldredge stated the fossil record is marked by long

periods of “stasis” (extending for millions of years), during which time there is little or no evolutionary

change. Most species “appear in the fossil record looking much the same as when they disappear;

morphological change is usually limited and directionless.”5 The long periods of stasis are punctuated by

rapid, episodic periods of speciation, occurring within the space of a few thousand years (a geological

microsecond). In any local area, “a species does not arise gradually by the steady transformation of its

ancestors; it appears all at once and fully formed”6.

For a long time, the absence of transitional forms in the fossil records had been explained

away by evolutionists as the “imperfections of the fossil record”. In their famous essay,

“Punctuated Equilibria: an alternative to phyletic gradualism” (1972), Gould and Eldredge

wrote that, “Under the influence of phyletic gradualism, the rarity of transitional series remains

as our persistent bugbear…Many breaks in the fossil record are real; they express the way in

which evolution occurs, not the fragments of an imperfect record.”7

Gould and Eldredge continued to stress that the absence of transitional forms in the fossil

records is a reality that should be accepted by paleontologists. In the essay "Evolution's

Erratic Pace" (1977) Gould said: “The extreme rarity of transitional forms in the fossil record

persists as the trade secret of paleontology…Paleontologists have paid an exorbitant price for

Darwin's argument. We fancy ourselves as the only true students of life's history, yet to

preserve our favored account of evolution by natural selection we view our data as so bad that

we never see the very process we profess to study.”8 In another paper published in the same

year titled “The Return of Hopeful Monsters”, Gould wrote: “All paleontologists know that the

fossil record contains precious little in the way of intermediate forms; transitions between

major groups are characteristically abrupt.” Although a few examples of gradualism in the

fossil history were proposed by others, Gould and Eldredge dismissed these claims arguing

“that virtually none of the examples brought forward to refute our model can stand as support

for phyletic gradualism.”9 In the essay, “Is a new and general theory of evolution

emerging?” (1980), Gould reiterated the fact that, “The absence of fossil evidence for

intermediary stages between major transitions in organic design, indeed our inability, even in

our imagination, to construct functional intermediates in many cases, has been a persistent

and nagging problem for gradualistic accounts of evolution.”10

It is interesting to note that the absence of “missing links” in the geological

records had also concerned Darwin. In the Origin of Species he asks, “Why then is not

every geological formation and every stratum full of such intermediate links? Geology assuredly

does not reveal any such finely graduated organic chain; and this, perhaps, is the most obvious

and gravest objection which can be urged against my theory.”11 However, Darwin had supported

his gradual theory of evolution by natural selection by claiming that intermediate fossils are not

found because the geological record is imperfect: “The geological record is extremely imperfect

and this fact will to a large extent explain why we do not find interminable varieties, connecting

together all the extinct and existing forms of life by the finest graduated steps. He who rejects

these views on the nature of the geological record will rightly reject my whole theory. ”12 And that is

exactly the conclusion that has been reached by paleontologists in recent years. Eldredge and

Tattersall wrote the obituary for Darwinism in the book “The Myths of Human Evolution” (1982):

“Darwin's prediction of rampant, albeit gradual, change affecting all lineages through time is

refuted. The record is there, and the record speaks for tremendous anatomical conservatism.

Change in the manner Darwin expected is just not found in the fossil record.”13

Gould and Eldredge tried to explain the lack of transitional forms by suggesting that speciation

takes place so rapidly in times of environmental stress that, although transitional forms may exist,

they can never be found. That is clearly an unacceptable proposition. For, if we say that the actual

event of speciation through intermediate forms can never be detected in the fossil record, then any

theory becomes simply an article of faith that can never be verified. How is that any different from

creationism? Besides, such a speculation raises uncomfortable questions for the field of genetics.

Too much biological complexity must be built into too few generations. The level of DNA change a

species can undergo in a few thousand years is grossly insufficient to justify the morphological

jumps found in the fossil records.

Even when evolutionists were speculating that evolution through natural selection takes place

gradually over millions of years, due to a steady accumulation of gene mutations, there were

serious objections from biologists. French zoologist Pierre-Paul Grasse, the past President of the

French Academie des Sciences said that mutations are merely hereditary fluctuations around a

median position which do not produce any kind of evolution14. In the book Evolution of

Living Organisms he says that mutations "are not complementary to one

another, nor are they cumulative in successive generations toward a given

direction. They modify what preexists, but they do so in disorder.

As soon as some disorder, even slight, appears in an organized being, sickness, then death

follows.” Besides, “a single plant, a single animal would require thousands and thousands of

lucky, appropriate events. Thus, miracles would become the rule...There is no law against day

dreaming, but science must not indulge in it." And since Punctuated Equilibrium requires

millions of such complex gene mutations to occur within a short span of a few thousand years,

the need for miracles increases exponentially.

In 1999, writing in Nature, Oxford zoologist Mark Pagel stated, while reviewing a book by Niles

Eldredge: “Paleobiologists…saw in the fossil records rapid bursts of change,

new species appearing seemingly out of nowhere and then remaining

unchanged for millions of years - patterns hauntingly reminiscent of

creation.”15 Indeed, it is easy to see that the sudden extinction of life forms every 26 million

years, brought about by large body impacts from outer space, and the equally abrupt

appearance of “fully formed” new species after long periods of stasis, supports the Vedic

accounts of the events that transpire in a Day and Night of Brahma. Gould had said that the

“mass extinction events” occur during the long periods of stasis separating the abrupt

“speciation events”16. This means that the mass extinction and speciation events take place

alternately, which exactly correspond to the cyclical destruction and creation events in a Day

and Night of Brahma.

However, the Vedic texts give us very specific additional information on this subject. They tell us

that the destruction event and creation events are separated by exactly 12 million years; and in

the period following the destruction event the earth is devoid of all living forms. This does not

imply that there is an extinction of all species at the end of a Day of Brahma, since the same

species may be created again in the subsequent Day of Brahma.

It simply means that all life forms on the earth are annihilated, and for the next 12 million years

no new life forms are created, and thereby no new fossils are generated. In the fossil record,

this should be reflected as an exponential decrease in fossil density over the 12 million years

following the mass extinction event. It would be interesting if paleontologists were to investigate

the fossil records to validate these “predictions”.

We find mention of similar episodic creation events in the accounts of the Mesoamericans as well.

Their myths tell us that the gods Tepeu and Gucumatz decided to create a race of beings who can

worship them. Huracan, the Heart of Heaven, who is the Supreme Deity, did the actual creating

while Tepeu and Gucumatz guided the process. First the Earth was created. However, the gods

went through many trials and errors before creating humans. First the animals were created;

however, with all of their howling and squawking they did not worship their creators and were thus

banished forever to the forest. Man was first created of mud, but they just crumbled and dissolved

away. Man was next created of wood but he had no soul, and they soon forgot their makers, so

the gods turned all of their possessions against them and brought a black resinous rain down on

their heads. Finally man was formed of masa or corn dough by even more gods and their work

was complete. These mythical accounts seem to describing an episodic process of creation,

spanning across many Days and Nights of Brahma.

Another interesting hypothesis that can be derived from the punctuated equilibrium model of

evolution is that modern man must have also appeared in a “fully formed” fashion after one of the

episodic creation events. Since the most recent creation event took place at the beginning of the

current Day of Brahma, nearly 5.5 million years ago, it implies that modern human beings must

have been walking the earth for at least 5.5 million years. Not surprisingly, as per current

evolutionary theories, humans and apes have supposedly diverged from their “common ancestor”

sometime around 5.5 million years back, and the first hominids i.e. erect-walking humanlike

primates, appear in the fossil record in the Pliocene period, nearly 5 million years back.

However, the proposed “common ancestor” of humans and apes has never

been found; and, therefore, it raises the possibility that such a common

ancestor is purely hypothetical and never really existed. Proponents of

evolutionary theory constantly assert that if two species have similar genetic make-up, it indicates

that they must have a common ancestor. Thus, since humans and chimpanzee share 98% of their

DNA, it necessarily implies that they must have evolved from a common ancestor. Such a linear

mode of thinking is quite surprising. Having worked in the Information Technology industry for

more than a decade I know that if two systems share similar functions, it does not mean that they

have both evolved from a common predecessor system. It simply indicates that the

same code has been used; and if the systems concerned have a modular

design, then it indicates a re-use of modules. Modules are essentially self-contained

chunks of code that achieve a specific set of functionalities and can therefore be easily re-used

across systems. In fact, in theory, an entire system can be built simply by assembling a set of

modules and connecting them through their interfaces. The same concept is applicable for most

other industries that use “components” for assembling their products. There is no reason why

such a thought process cannot be applied to the biological systems. In other words, the same

genetic information may be re-used across multiple biological organisms in order to create the

extraordinary diversity of organisms that we see around us, possibly with the intention of creating

a self-sustaining ecosphere. There is no need for common ancestors. And just as complex

information systems do not get designed by themselves, the incredible

complexity of living organisms, which far surpasses anything that is man-

made, suggests the presence of an intelligent force behind creation.

In addition, there is sufficient fossil evidence to indicate that the first

hominids, which appeared around 5 million years ago, were “fully formed”

modern humans, exactly as postulated by punctuated equilibrium. Darwinists,

however, have continued to ignore the contradictory evidence and have carefully constructed a

sequence of human evolution beginning with the Australopithecus, which supposedly gave rise to

Homo habilis (2 million years ago), Homo erectus (1.5 million years ago), Homo sapiens (400,000

years ago) and finally modern man i.e. Homo sapiens sapiens (40,000 years ago). This entire

sequence is based on pure speculation, with a complete disregard for a host of highly anomalous

evidences which challenge the dominant viewpoint.

In the elaborately researched book Forbidden Archaeology: The Hidden History of the Human

Race, the authors Thomson and Cremo provide a wealth of evidence which highlights the extreme

antiquity of man17. In the 1880s, in Castenedolo, Italy, G. Ragazzoni, a geologist, found fossil

bones of several Homo sapiens individuals in layers of Pliocene sediment 3 to 4 million years old.

Critics said that the bones must have been

placed into these Pliocene layers fairly recently

by human burial. In 1921, R. A. S. Macalister

wrote about the Castenedolo finds in a textbook

on archeology which explains their reluctance to

accept the authenticity of the finds: "The

acceptance of a Pliocene date for the

Castenedolo skeletons would create so many

insoluble problems that we can hardly hesitate

in choosing between the alternatives of adopting

or rejecting their authenticity." Therefore, in spite

of the fact that Ragazzoni had carefully

inspected the overlying layers and found them

undisturbed, his findings were ignored. It led the

Italian scientist G. Sergi to write in 1884: "By

means of a despotic scientific prejudice, call it

what you will, every discovery of human remains

in the Pliocene has been discredited."

In 1979, researchers at the Laetoli site, Tanzania, in

East Africa discovered footprints of modern humans

in volcanic ash deposits over 3.6 million years

old.  Mary Leakey and others said the prints were

indistinguishable from those of modern humans. In an

article in the March 1990 issue of Natural History, R.

H. Tuttle of the University of Chicago confessed that

"we are left with somewhat of a mystery." The find

clearly indicates that creatures with anatomically

modern human bodies to match their anatomically

modern human feet existed some 3.6 million years

ago in East Africa.

In 1965, Bryan Patterson and W. W. Howells found a

surprisingly modern humerus (upper arm bone) at

Kanapoi, Kenya. Scientists judged the humerus to be

over 4 million years old. Henry M. McHenry and

Robert S. Corruccini of the University of California

said the Kanapoi humerus was “barely distinguishable from

modern Homo.” All these anomalous discoveries have been

ignored by the mainstream evolutionists because they do not

conform to their proposed theoretical models. However, they

certainly support the contention that “fully formed” modern

human beings have appeared around 5.5 million years ago,

at the beginning of the current Day of Brahma.

In addition to human remains, Cremo and Thompson provide

evidences of a number of crude paleoliths and advanced

stone implements which have been discovered in very old soil layers, suggesting that tool-using

humans or human precursors existed in the Pliocene (2-5 million years ago), the Miocene (5-25

million years ago), and even earlier. Crude paleoliths were found in the late nineteenth century by

Carlos Ribeiro, head of the Geological Survey of Portugal in Miocene layers (5-25 million years

ago). At an international conference of archeologists and anthropologists held in Lisbon, a

committee of scientists investigated one of the sites where Ribeiro had found implements.

One of the scientists found a stone tool even more advanced than the better of Ribeiro's

specimens. Crude paleoliths were also found in Miocene formations at Thenay, France.  S. Laing,

an English science writer, noted: "On the whole, the evidence for these Miocene implements

seems to be very conclusive, and the objections to have hardly any other ground than the

reluctance to admit the great antiquity of man." In 1880, J. D. Whitney, the state geologist of

California, published a lengthy review of advanced stone tools found in California gold mines. The

implements, including spear points and stone mortars and pestles, were found deep in mine

shafts, underneath thick, undisturbed layers of lava, in formations that geologists now say are

from 9 million to over 55 million years old! W. H. Holmes of the Smithsonian Institution, one of the

most vocal nineteenth- century critics of the California finds, wrote: "Perhaps if Professor Whitney

had fully appreciated the story of human evolution as it is understood today, he would have

hesitated to announce the conclusions formulated [that humans existed in very ancient times in

North America], notwithstanding the imposing array of testimony with which he was confronted."

In other words, if the facts do not agree with the favored theory, then such facts, even an

imposing array of them, must be discarded.

Every new discovery pushes the antiquity of man back millions of years. However, the

incongruous evidences, as and when they come up, are simply filtered away as anomalies. In

L'Anthropologie, 1995, Marylène Pathou-Mathis wrote: “M. Cremo and R. Thompson have willfully

written a provocative work that raises the problem of the influence of the dominant ideas of a time

period on scientific research. These ideas can compel the researchers to orient their analyses

according to the conceptions that are permitted by the scientific community.”18 Not surprisingly, a

very similar opinion had been voiced by Stephen Gould when he had formulated his theory of

punctuated equilibrium: “I am a strong advocate of the general argument that "truth" as preached

by scientists often turns out to be no more than prejudice inspired by prevailing social and political

beliefs.”19 In British Journal for the

now in a state of flux, with

practitioners debating ‘issues which

go to the conceptual core of the

discipline.’”20

The discovery of crude paleoliths and advanced stone implements push back the date for the

appearance of anatomically modern humans to the period around 55 million years ago, soon

after the extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. However, we should also remain open

to the possibility that these stone implements may have been created by the various human

precursors, which were created in the previous Days of Brahma. The Mesoamerican texts

describe an episodic process of creation in which multiple “versions” of humans are created

before the appearance of modern man. These artifacts appear to be supporting such mythical

accounts.

It is worthwhile, in this context, to take a fresh look at the accounts of creation in the Genesis. As

per the Genesis, creation took place in six days and six nights. However, the text specifically

mentions that birds and sea-creatures were created on the fifth day while land animals and man

are created on the sixth. Therefore, although the entire process of creation took six days and

nights, all living creatures are created in only two days and nights.

We can reasonably assume that the creation account in the Genesis

describes the events that took place at the beginning of one of the Days of

Brahma, possibly the most recent one that began around 5.5 million years

ago, since it talks about the creation of man. In this context, it is easy to

see that the “day and night” mentioned here does not refer to a normal 24

hours day and night of the humans; since humans did not exist when the

creative process was initiated. It is far more likely that it refers to a “day

and night of the gods”.

As per the Vedic texts, a Cycle of the Yugas is completed once the sun makes a complete

revolution around the mythical Mount Meru, the central axis of the world. They also tell us that a

complete revolution of the sun around the Mount Meru results in a “day and night of the gods”

and the celestials who reside on the Meru. This implies that a “day and night of the gods” is

nothing but the complete Yuga Cycle of 24,000 years duration (i.e. the Precessional Year). In this

context, the ascending half of the Precessional Year of 12,000 years can be viewed as the “day

of the gods” and the descending half of the Precessional Year of another 12,000 years as the

“night of the gods”.

Therefore, the six days and nights of creation is equivalent to 144,000

years, while the two days and nights during which all life forms were

created, is equal to 48,000 years. Hence, we can conclude that as per the Genesis, the

reconstruction of the entire biosphere at the beginning of a Day of Brahma takes around 144,000

years, while life forms appear on the earth over a period of 48,000 years. And as per the

estimates created by Gould and Eldredge, “speciation” after a catastrophe takes anywhere

between 5000 – 50,000 years. This is the same value that we obtain from the Genesis! We get

further confirmation from the Surya Siddhanta, the oldest astronomical treatise of India, which

was revealed to the asura Maya at the end of the Golden Age. It states: “One hundred times four

hundred and seventy four years passed while the All-Wise was employed in creating the animate

and inanimate creation, plants, stars, gods, demons and the rest.”21 This indicates that the entire

creative process took 47,400 years, which is surprisingly close to the value proposed by Gould

and Eldredge and to the biblical estimates.

Interestingly, the numbers 12,000 and 144,000 occur many times in the Revelation and have a

number of esoteric meanings associated with them. 144,000 is mentioned as the number of

“servants of God” who will be sealed on their foreheads before the apocalypse, while 12,000 is

the number of spiritual “tribes” of the heavenly kingdom of God. The appearance of these

numbers in connection with the creation events in the Genesis is certainly not a mere

coincidence.

It is clear that the data from fossil records corroborate what the ancient, sacred texts told us all

along: that there are cycles of creation and destruction every 24 million years; that new life forms

abruptly appear on the surface of the earth at the beginning of each Day of Brahma; that modern

human beings must have appeared at least 5.5 million years ago; and that speciation at the

beginning of a Day of Brahma takes around 48,000 years. On the other hand, none of

the assertions of the standard Darwinian model of evolution are reflected

in the fossil records. In the face of such enormous evidences, the claim for

Intelligent Design can hardly be ignored any longer.

The Message ofthe Ancients Signs in the Sky

In my mind their is no doubt that all the cultures and civilizations past and present have a common origin. I also think that the science of astrology is the common l ink between the symbolism of all these cultures.

In my study of ancient Vedic scriptures, I have come across

some startling conclusions. Through this piece I would like

to share some of them with you.

For example, the ancient Vedic seers knew about the

phenomenon of relativity, as can be seen from this story

taken from one of the Vedic scriptures:

An Earthly King was called upon by Brahma, the Creator

among the Trinity of Vedic deities presiding over universal

affairs, to visit him in his abode which was quite far (many

light years) away from earth. The Earthly King agreed, and

visited the abode of Brahma and spent around fifteen

minutes (of Brahmaloka time) witnessing the splendor of

Brahmaloka.

After that he asked Brahma to arrange for his return to

Earth as his family and kingdom awaited him. Brahma

laughed and told him that by the time he returned to earth,

thousands of years of Earth time would have passed. No

one would recognize him as his Kingdom no longer existed

and his family had already gone through many generations.

This shows beyond doubt that the ancient Vedic seers

knew about time travel and the relativity of time and space

long before Albert Einstein revealed his theories to the

modern world.

A Vedic Astrological Perspective

I feel that the key to unlocking the recently discovered "Orion" mystery of the Pyramids, the "Draconis" mystery of temples in Angkor, and the "Pleiades" mystery of the Mayan civilization, lies in the ancient Vedic texts. These texts contain more references concerning a l l these sacred constellations and deep sky objects than any other ancient manuscripts.

The Orion mystery of the Pyramids arises from the fact that the three Pyramids at Giza,located south-west of Cairo, are aligned exactly as the three middle stars of the constellation of Orion namely Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka.

Also, the three Pyramids are aligned at an angle of 45 degrees, and astronomical data shows that the belt of Orion was tilted at such an angle around 10,500 BC. Hence, a startling conclusion looms on the horizon, which is that the Pyramids were constructed not around 2500 BC by the Egyptians, but by a more advanced civilization thousands of years earlier.

The story does not end here, as it is found that the main chamber of the King's pyramid was linked to passages which aimed directly at the heart of Orion as it would have been located in that time.

The mystery deepens when one finds that the temples at Angkor in Cambodia form a shape exactly similar to the constellation of Draconis. Using astronomical data, once again it is found that the temples align with the constellation as it appeared around 10,500 BC.

It is also interesting to note that the constellations of Orion and Draconis lie almost opposite to each other in the celestial view from Earth.

Interestingly, the figure of 10,500 BC comes up in both cases, and this is also the time given by esoteric astrologers for the last great global cataclysm which destroyed a civilization much more advanced than our own.

The recent advances made in esoteric astrology can help understand why the ancients were so keen on studying and following the motion of these sacred constellations.

Within these celestial bodies also lies the key to the common source of all these civilizations, which can only be understood by understanding their esoteric significance through the study of astrology of the ancients.

If these theories are correct, then we can safely conclude that the anc ients constructed these structures as astronomical codes for preserving the knowledge of t h e p a s t c a t a c l y s m , w h i c h happened around 10,500 BC, and also as a warning for future generations.

Most of the esoteric astrologers agree that the last major cataclysm occurred around 10,000 BC when the Age of Virgo gave way to the Age of Leo.

This change of ages takes place due to an astronomical reality know as Precession. The earth's axis is not stationary, but spins around and completes one revolution about each 26,000 years.

This means that about every 2000 years, a different astrological sign rises at dawn on the Spring Equinox (when night and day are of equal length). That period in history is said to be the Age of that rising sign.

In my view, the simplistic and approximate breakdown of the Ages after the Great Flood around 10,000 BC would be like this.

• 10000 - 8000 BC : Age of Leo

• 8000 - 6000 BC : Age of Cancer

• 6000 - 4000 BC : Age of Gemini

• 4000 - 2000 BC : Age of Taurus

• 2000 - 1 BC : Age of Aries

• 1 - 2000 AD : Age of Pisces

• 2000 AD onward : Age of Aquarius

Now the reason why I use the word approximate is that the transition time in the shifting of these ages varies from a few years to a few hundred years and the actual transition point is highly debatable as the boundaries of the various signs of the zodiac are defined differently in different systems.

These different Ages were characterized by use of common symbols by all the civilizations which happened to exist at that time in history.

For example, the Age of Leo was characterized by Sun worship, and all the cultures of this time were termed Heliolithic.

Another characteristic of Leo symbology was the use of the Lion as in the Great Sphinx. The use of Gold as currency was the norm at that time, and Gold and Lion are unique symbols of the sign Leo and its planetary ruler the Sun.

Cults of Great Mother Goddess came up everywhere, especially across Asia minor and the shores of the Mediterranean during the Age of Cancer.

Though our knowledge of this time in history is shadowy to say the least, still one can safely say that Sun worship gave way to Moon worship, as Moon is the planetary ruler of the Sign Cancer. Cancer is also the sign associated with the Great Mother, the creator of the Universe.

This same Mother can be seen manifesting in various ancient cultures: the Isis of Egyptians, Nana of Chaldeans, Rhea of the Romans, Spider woman of the Hopi, and Shakti of the Vedic scriptures, but they all arose from the early Mother goddess cults of the Age of Cancer.

The Age of Gemini brought about the worship of the twin-gods. The Phoenician, Egyptian, Babylonian, Assyrian and Vedic cultures are testimony to the cult of the Twins who were born of the mating of the universal male principle symbolized by the Sun and universal female principle symbolized by Earth and the Moon.

Since Gemini is the sign of writing and communication, we find that new languages were discovered and spread in this time. The best example is that of t h e S u m e r i a n s w h o a r e supposed to have brought the art of writing from Central Asia to Mesopotamia around this period.

Since the Egyptian civilization was the one we know most about in the Age of Taurus, we have its real evidence in Egyptian Bull and Earth mother cults which were part of Egyptian culture and religion at this time. This comes as no surprise as Taurus is the sign ruling over the desire nature on Earth symbolized by its symbol, the Bull.

Taurus also presides over the gifts of mother Earth to its inhabitants. It is thus the sign ruling agriculture which reached a sort of peak in the civilization of Egypt due to the river now known as Nile. Few civilizations have surpassed the affluence of the ancient Egyptians.

The Age of Aries found its symbolism in the main civilizations of its time, namely the Roman and Greek. The Arian idea of individualism was the cornerstone for these civilizations. The Greeks worshipped Apollo, the god of the Sun. Sun finds its exaltation in the sign of Aries and thus its worship returned once again.

Romans worshipped Mars along with Zeus, as the God of War. Since much of their civilization was based upon war, they had special regard for Mars above all the rest, which is the planetary ruler of Aries. It was the age of the military throughout the world.

Sun worship returned among the Egyptians through the Pharaoh Amenhotep IV. Jews became the chosen ones for this Age with Moses laying down the guiding principles which are very much a mixture of the sign Aries and the Sign Libra, its polar opposite.

Buddha, who had five planets in the Sign Aries at Midheaven in his chart, ushered in a new individualistic belief which did not need help of any Gods and Goddesses for attaining Nirvana, very much in keeping with Arian spirit.Mose and the worship of golden

Lao Tse, Confucius, and Zoroaster heralded new beliefs along the same lines in ancient China and ancient Persia.

The Age of Pisces was clearly marked by the arrival of Jesus. He went against the Old Testament, which emphasized ram and the sacrificial fire due to its Arian origins. Through his teachings the New Testament was brought about, along with the emblem of 'fish' and baptism by 'water'.

Now 'fish' is the symbol of the sign Pisces and 'water' is its element. Even on a deep psychological and spiritual level, his teachings and life represent the qualities of the sign Pisces.

Incidentally, according to the majority of scholars, Jesus was born when the planets Jupiter and Saturn joined in the sign Pisces. This could have been the Star of Magi which the three wise men from east followed.

Virgo, the opposite sign of Pisces, found its symbolism through Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus. Virgo, as is common knowledge the sign of the Virgin.

This Age saw abundant mysticism in poetry, art and culture throughout the world. The Christian

mystics and the Sufis were all tuned in to the vibrations of this emotional, all inclusive sign.

Exaltation of martyrdom, extreme monasticism, the Dark Ages, the blind belief systems, unquestioned orthodoxy represent some of the dark sides of the Piscean era.

The Piscean age started giving way with the advent of scientific thought during the Renaissance, but it still holds the majority of humanity in its grasp through the orthodox religions, blind patriotism, and growing financial inequality.

Due to concentration on the lower energies of this sign especially in the last century, the world has virtually become a 'market' and 'money' its God.

One can never be sure when exactly the energies of Aquarius, the sign of Man, will take over. My view is that this change would take place somewhere in the early years of the 21st century.

Another important astrological event which is happening now is the conjunction of winter solstice with the Galactic center, which according to Vedic scholars lies at around 6 degrees of the sign, Sagittarius.

Interestingly the timing of the last Great Flood around 10,000 B.C coincided with conjunction of summer solstice with the Galactic center. As we know, the summer solstice is the point in time exactly opposite to the winter solstice.

The Christ ( derived from the greek word Christos, meaning the "anointed one" )who inaugurated the age of Pisces as the Jesus of Nazareth, himself says ; "When the Sign of Man shall come, he will enlighten you in all things ."

In my view, the Aquarian Age, the age of individual enlightenment and brotherhood of Man, will only manifest fully only after a purification process.

This fall is imminent in the way this civilization has polluted the Earth beyond repair ... at least by human means!

Of course we all wish to see things happen with the minimum of suffering and maximum of benefit but the present reality and the message of the ancients reveals a different plot which we must accept as a manifestation of the cosmic intelligence /will.

The ancients have many times warned us that in the past, many civilizations which considered themselves invincible, were reduced to dust by the storms of 'time'.

Coming back to the time of the last global cataclysm, the Great Sphinx is the structure which assumes prime importance in marking the time around 10,500 BC. It is regarded by

esoteric astrologers as a combination of signs Leo and Virgo.

It is quite evident in its mixing of human and animal form that it was an attempt to represent the change of Ages from Virgo, a sign with a human symbol, to the Age of Leo, a sign with lion as its symbol.

S e v e r a l d e s c r i p t i o n s o f t h i s catastrophe and its timing can be found with in the wisdom and s c ri p t u re s o f a l l t h e a n c i e n t civilizations, including that of the Native American Indians.

In the Vedic scriptures, one can get the detailed accounts of the civilizations which made these structures around 10,500 BC, and which existed before and during the Age of Leo.

It is quite surprising that the two main ancient Vedic epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata, deal with nothing but the culture and lifestyle of the four main Ages before 2000 B.C. Those ages are the Age of Leo, the Age of Cancer, the Age of Gemini, and finally the Age of Taurus.

The Vedic scripture Ramayana tells us of the Kings who ruled in the Age of Leo, and reveals tha t they a l l cons idered themse lves Suryavanshi, meaning the direct descendants of the Sun!

In other words, they were all Sun Kings, which is a very strong indicator of that time being the Age of Leo, as Sun has the lordship of Leo according to Vedic astrology.

It is Krishna who said to his friend Arjun in the middle of the battlefield:

"Whenever there is decay of righteousness and exaltation of unrighteousness, O Bharata, than I Myself come forth for the protection of the good, for the s a k e o f e s t a b l i s h i n g righteousness, I am born from Age to Age."

These words again point to the shifting of the Ages and the presence of a divine i n c a r n a t i o n w h o heralds every new Age.

The actual war of Mahabharata, a war involving all the kingdoms on earth, which is placed at around 3100 BC by various scholars, turns out to be the conflict which inaugurates Kaliyuga, or the Age of darkness.

In fact, this war also relates to the transition from the Age of Taurus to the Age of Aries, symbolized by the death of Krishna. The actual transition took place around 2000 BC, during the reign of King Parikshit, the last king in the lineage of Pandavas, the five brothers who emerged victorious in Mahabharata.

The Vedic tradition felt that humanity lost some part of their original divinity through each of the changing ages until things finally hit rock bottom in Kaliyuga. The cycle repeats itself after a cataclysm similar to that of 10,000 BC.

After 2000 BC, we are very much into the Era of recorded history and historical diaries of the changing ages l ike the Ramayana and Mahabharata were no longer required.

We can see that the two cycles, one of the changing Astrological Ages and the other of changing Ages based upon the shifting level of consciousness of humanity, overlap each other in unison like two wheels with different number of spokes revolving side by side with the same speed.

In Vedic astrology, there are 27 constellations spanning the 12 signs of the zodiac. One of these constellations within the sign Gemini is Ardra, which is nothing but the second brightest star in Orion, known as Betelguese. It is supposed to be the abode of Shiva, one of the Trinity and the Vedic deity presiding over Destruction and Regeneration.

The Ramayana also reveals that some of the cities in that Age which were built mostly of Gold, which again is associated with Sun and the sign of Leo in Vedic astrology.

The epic talks about flying machines, which functioned simply from the power of thought, and throughout, it describes a very advanced civilization whose downfall came through pursuit of excessive materialism.

The information that the Ramayana contains is in the form of a long continuous story, but it is not hard to decipher the hidden meaning, especially if one uses the astrological hints given throughout the tale.

The killing of Ravana, (the Titan king, who has Leo rising as his ascendant in his chart) by Rama, (the Aryan prince, an incarnation of Vishnu and the deity of preservation among the Vedic Trinity who has Cancer rising as his ascendant), symbolizes the end of the Age of Leo and the beginning of the Age of Cancer.

This transition was brought about through a terrible war in which Rama defeated Ravana with the help of his friend the Monkey King and his army.

Astrologically, this shows that Mars was the planet which helped bring about the Age of Cancer, which is no surprise as Mars is the most benefic planet for Cancer ascendant. According to Vedic astrology, Mars is the planet which rules over monkeys and other primates.

It also brings to fore an interesting thought that some primate races were existing side by side of

more evolved human races. This could be a key for solving the long unsolved riddle of evolution of human beings, as it opens up the possibility that humans and primates may not have a common ancestry.

Rama was succeeded by his twin sons, Luv and Kush, which symbolized the change from the Age of Cancer to the Age of Gemini, which is the Sign of the Twins.

This transition also took place with a struggle in which the twin brothers defeated their father's armies. Not much emphasis is paid on this part of the scripture, as it puts Rama on the wrong side, which is not acceptable to many orthodox Hindus.

The other epic, Mahabharata, describes the Age of Taurus and the transition from the Age of Taurus to the Age of Aries. The central character is Krishna, an incarnation of Vishnu who is born with Taurus rising in his ascendant. In the story, Krishna's pastimes reflect the culture and living of that time in history in a most fascinating way.

It is interesting to note that he was born as a cowherd, where in Vedic astrology, the cow is directly related to the sign of Taurus.

Orion houses two constellations in Vedic astrology and is revered in all the Vedic texts as the gateway from where the souls descend to begin their earthly life. It is thus called the "Giver of Life".

Astronomically, Orion is located in the gap between the astrological signs of Taurus and Gemini. This gap is one of the two celestial gateways in the Zodiac; the other one lies between the astrological signs of Scorpio and Sagittarius.

I feel that all the Knowledge is out there already, and all we need to do is put the pieces together and synthesize all the seemingly unrelated aspects.

For example, the fact that Draconis among the constellations signifies the Flying Serpent, relates to the Mayan civilization which worshipped the Flying Serpent with the temples of Angkor, which were made in the image of this constellation.

The Flying Serpent is revered in the Chinese culture as the "Dragon" which in turn symbolizes the very heights of wisdom and knowledge.

The same Serpent is revered in the Vedic scriptures due its association with the "Kundalini" power, which resides at the base of the spine and is the giver of supreme enlightenment once it opens up the "Crown center" located at the top of the head.

In my mind their is no doubt that all the cultures and civilizations past and present have a common origin. I also think that the science of astrology is the common link between the symbolism of all these cultures.

Why it has become possible for us to break this astronomical / astrological code of the Ancients at the present time is because we might again be on the verge of another global transformation similar to that of 10,000 BC, and the key to our future may lie in this very Knowledge !

There is one very good reason why temples have long been associated with a state of bliss. Through a combination of stone

and geometry and the cunning harnessing of natural forces, they became places of power where a person is enabled to pierce a veil into worlds and levels of reality that access a vast sea of information and expanded potential. In Egypt and Central America these sacred buildings are even referred to as a living entity, as a god, and where the initiate can be “transformed into a god, into a bright star.” For this singular reason, then, the temple has occupied a central stage in human spirituality.

Human-constructed temples have their

origin in the landscape. They are mirrors of natural forces at play, forces that once upon a time were

perceived, then synthesized and concretized into structures that represent the perfection of the universe. The most ancient of temples – particularly the stoic men-hirs (“standing stone”) – are reflections of the sacred mountain, which even in the oldest of scriptures such as the Tamil Puranas, was considered to house the energy of the god Siva. The sacred mountain was reflected in the Sivalingam, a phallic sacred stone, the

effulgent power of a creator god descended from the sky and manifested on Earth.

Sacred mountains have been magnets for pilgrimage and veneration for thousands of years. In eastern religious lore, the best known example of a mountain as a sacred site is Su-meru, or Mount Meru, which represents at the same time an allegorical structure of the universe as well as the h i g h e s t s p i r i t u a l achievement sought b y a d e p t s i n t h e physical, spiritual and m e t a p h y s i c a l cosmology of Hindus, Buddhists and Jains. The roots of Jainism, in particular, are as old a s m o u n t a i n s themselves, and its influence is noted in many other religions. Interestingly, these fai ths share simi lar spiritual philosophies: the practice of self-effort in progressing the soul t o w a r d s d i v i n e consciousness through non-violence, and the conquering of inner struggles (commonly known as the seven deadly sins).

THE SEVEN GATES OF PARADISE

A men-hir, the simplest of all temples, is a mirror image of the sacred mountain in which the effulgent power of a creator god resides.

To help overcome the conditions of the material world that prevent the experiencing of a state of oneness, initiates of the temple traditionally sourced the energy of such places of power and integrated with the spirit of place, helping them disentangle from such negative limitations as fear, anger, envy, and so forth. Once enlightenment was reached they attained a state of bliss, or as many of us describe it, paradise. Interestingly, this simple observation helps us locate that much-desired land.

‘Paradise’ originates from the word pairidaeza in Avestan – the sacred language of Zoroastrianism – and literally means “a walled enclosure.”

According to local traditions, a Jain who has mastered discipline over the physical world and achieved the state of godliness is called a Jina. As this word migrated west it became the arabic Djinn, along with its derivative Allah-Djinn or Aladdin. Back in the days when Asia Minor was Assyria, this Djinn was considered a supernatural being. And not surprising, since the root j-n-n means “hidden.” However, it is also the root of jannah, the Islamic concept of paradise. Its derivative in Portuguese – a language brimming with Arabic – is janela, “a window, an opening in a wall.”

If we follow this dizzying etymological trail, then, paradise appears to be a hidden but demarcated space, separated from the ordinary and troublesome world, but we can reach this ‘walled enclosure’ through ‘an opening in the wall’.

Paradise is, admittedly, what every living human being strives for, be it in the now or in the afterlife. As far as the temple-builders were concerned, there was no better time than the present, inasmuch as they engineered walled enclosures called temples that demarcate one world from the next. Could these temples be windows into paradise?

They may just be. Measurements of energy around the perimeter of temples in Britain and Egypt show that such places concentrate measurable levels of electromagnetism, particularly at the entrances which serve to direct this energy into the inner sanctum of the site, sometimes as much as twice the rate of the surrounding land. For lack of a better word, the entrance is the window into the walled enclosure.

Being electromagnetic by nature and composed of two-thirds water, the main beneficiary of this spiritual engineering is the human body, which is suitably entranced. When the pilgrim walks into a temple it is effectively walking into a highly charged version of itself. Additionally, every temple is also sited above or beside water, and when geomagnetism is rotated or spiraled it generates an electromagnetic charge in this fluid.

Total self-empowerment through total self-realization.

Inscriptions in Egyptian temples describe the buildings as places where the individual can be ‘transformed into a god, into a bright star’.

Samples of water from holy wells and other sacred places do show an increase in the liquid’s vorticular motion as compared to ordinary water. By implication, the process produces a corresponding effect in the human body.

Furthermore, the type of stone used in temples contains large amounts of magnetite, creating a weak, yet massive magnetic environment. This in turn stimulates the iron that flows through the blood in the veins of the body as well as the magnetite suspended inside the skull. Any excitation of the local electromagnetic field can also influence the body’s state of awareness, primarily through stimulation of the pineal gland, leading to visions, heightened imagination and altered states. In other words, the stimulation of the human energy field in a temple allows the recipient to be able to receive information more readily from more subtle levels of reality.

Such affects induce oneness between mind, body, spirit, and God, a shamanic experience that leads to a blissful state of oneness with all levels of creation. In other words, paradise.

And it was precisely the experience the temple builders had in mind, because in inscriptions on temple walls from Teotihuacan to Giza state that the building exists to transform the ordinary human into a god, into a shining star.

So, in creating places of power, the ancients created sanctuaries where paradise can be experienced on Earth.

It is natural to assume that the builders of such elaborate and carefully engineered environments would also invest a significant amount of effort in protecting them from harm. It appears they did. In the Funerary Texts at the temple complex of Saqqara there is a curious passage in which it is stated that “seven degrees of perfection enable passage from earth to heaven.” This instruction is widely interpreted as referring to a series of challenges the soul needs to pass before gaining entry into the otherworld. Then again, with Egyptians being so fond of allegory and metaphor, I wondered if the phrase alludes to some doorway or protective barrier the individual crosses when they enter the temple; a passage from earth to heaven suggests a crossing from the profane, material world into a heavenly otherworld, which is precisely the purpose of the temple. But why should there be ‘seven degrees of perfection’: does the visitor undergo a process of purification? Possibly. If you recall, the temple was considered a mirror of heaven on Earth, the material dwelling place of a god as well as its physical embodiment. Consequently the purity of energy of the temple was everything, and defilement of the sanctum, physically or otherwise, was seen as a precursor to the downfall of the spirituality of the individual, and hence, the collapse of the entire tribe.

The more I looked at the ‘seven gates’ as an allegory, the more the

idea of a protective device made sense. Besides, energy measurements conducted in and around stone circles in Britain have proved the existence of a force field around such temples – in essence, there exists an invisible yet define threshold between profane and sacred space.

There is further evidence to support this possibility. There exists a kind of woven

electromagnetic grid over the entire face of the globe. Bearing the name of one of the men who discovered it, Dr. Ernst Hartmann, this grid is composed of small rectangular ‘nets’, and appears as a structure rising from the earth, each line 9 inches thick and spaced at intervals of 6 feet 6 inches by 8 feet, magnetically oriented; the dimensions are very close to the mathematical roots of the Great Pyramid.1 Hartmann noticed that the intersecting points of the network – the knots – are influenced by underground veins of water as well as magnetic forces emanating naturally from the earth. Consequently, he found that the knots alter in strength from time to time and that a relationship exists between the location of the knots and the adverse health of people who work or sleep on them. Dowsers have been aware of this geopathic stress for centuries, and it is not uncommon for them to be hired to alter the location of the Hartmann net on a property, by embedding conductors such as metal rods into the ground, which stretch the electromagnetic net away from desired locations. It is the dowser’s equivalent of what ancient Egyptian temple builders used to call ‘the piercing the snake’, the practice of anchoring or moving the earth’s electromagnetic lines of force to achieve a desired energetic effect at a specific location, particularly the site of a future temple.

Conversely, the holes of the Hartmann net are places of neutral space where the weather is perfect. Could a relationship exist between temples and the stretching of this net?

Nothing more came of these musings until I read a fascinating research document by the geobiologist Blanche Merz, in which she conducted readings at temples in Europe, Egypt and India, and found the Hartmann net to be stretched around the temples like a protective membrane. As Merz wrote: “the gigantic Pharaonic structures have this in common: the Hartmann network forms a veritable dam of 18 geomagnetic lines around the perimeter of the buildings.”2 Celebrated temples such as Saqqara, Karnak, Luxor, Kom Ombu, as well as the pyramids, enjoy an immense neutral zone, much in the same way as the henge monuments in Britain circulate electromagnetic forces which concentrate the energy inside the temples and in a controlled manner that is beneficial to people. All these places are listed in the Edfu Building Texts as the original primordial mounds of the gods. Merz went on to find other energy hotspots at Chartres cathedral, the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, and a plethora of Indian sacred sites; in Tibet she found that stupas marked with nagas (serpents) identify the position of Hartmann knots, and that telluric energy is transmitted via these upright stones.3

power, the ancients created

sanctuaries where paradise can

be experienced on Earth.

Naturally, this revived my interest in the ‘seven degrees of perfection’ and the possibility they might be referring to thresholds of some kind. As it happens, in Egyptian mythology, the passage of the soul into heaven is made through a place called Sekhet Ianu, the “Field of Reeds”, a land of paradise where the spirit spends eternity; we simply know it today as the Elyssian Fields. Egyptian mythology states that to reach this much-desired land one must pass through a series of gates.4

During a visit to the temple complex at Saqqara I had the opportunity to study the passageway leading from the profane world and into the grand courtyard and its evocative stepped pyramid, engineered by Imhotep, an architect of the gods. This passageway is unique in that it is a colonnade of 18 reeds separated by narrow alcoves. Each of the alcoves discharges an alternating field of positive- and negatively-charged force which serves both as a barrier into the temple while at the same time influencing the body’s electromagnetic circuitry. In essence, as one walks down the preparatory entrance into Saqqara, one is suitably entranced prior to making contact with the courtyard of the temple and its mansion of the gods. In its time, this was the procedure necessary for dispelling negative thoughts and feelings one may be harboring prior to entering the sacred abode. Or as the Funerary Texts put it, one had “to master oneself before crossing the threshold of each gate.” 5

The numerical relationship between the 18 reeds and the 18 Hartmann lines protecting the perimeter of the temples is unmistakable. But for me, the revelation lay in the readings of the alternating energy field along the passageway, for they consisted of exactly seven positive-charged currents. Suddenly an answer to the ‘seven degrees of perfection’ loomed near. Merz’ own research revealed that at the very wide thresholds preceding the initiatory rooms of the temples, the Hartmann net traverses the entrances with seven tightly-packed grid lines protecting “the passage from the known to unknown.” 6

I found this spiritual engineering isn’t reserved just for Egyptian temples. In Ireland, the entrance to the ceremonial chamber at Newgrange is similarly protected by alternating energy currents, with seven positively-charged lines anchored on either side of the chambered passageway before reaching the inner sanctum.7

Coincidentally, Merz found the same system of seven energy lines protecting the passage to the altar at Chartres Cathedral, which also happens to be the location of the original temple on this site.

It seems these precautions were undertaken in different parts of the world, not just for the protection of the site, but also as a preparatory area for the initiate to pause and reflect prior to crossing the threshold between visible and invisible, much like the ritual a Muslim pilgrim as he winds seven times in an ever-decreasing spiral around the Ka’Ba before touching this stone called the “Soul-Body.”

The greater purpose of the temple builders was to induce a closer bond between the initiate and the unseen universe. Temples were designated as repositories of the knowledge of the gods, and that ‘imbibing’ such knowledge empowered the individual to be free – that is, free from the illusions of the world of matter. Under such conditions any individual is able to live life fully aware, precisely as the Rig Veda states.

Total self-empowerment through total self-realization.

This ideal would eventually bring the original temple builders and the benevolent guardians of the temple into direct conflict with organized religion, which abhors anyone savouring direct contact with the divine. Few tales portray the fight for the domination of the human soul better than the Biblical story of Adam and Eve, their own sojourn in paradise, and that apple they ate from the Tree of Knowledge. Anyone raised in the Christian faith knows the story all too well. But in the account of Genesis given in the Gnostic gospels of Nag Hammadi, which precede the four canonical gospels carefully selected by the Catholic Church,4 the serpent appears as the benevolent hero of mankind, and the god portrayed in the story is a shadow of the god of Light: “What did God say to you?” the serpent asked Eve. “Was it, do not eat from the tree of knowledge?”

Eve replied, “He said, not only do not eat from it, but do not touch it lest you die.”

The serpent reassured her, saying, “Do not be afraid. With death you shall not die; for it was out of jealousy that he said this to you. Rather your eyes shall open and you shall come to be like gods, recognizing evil and good.” 8

The Gnostic writings then describe that once Adam and Eve had eaten of the Tree of Knowledge they experienced enlightenment, precisely as one does, and the knowledge empowered them to discover spiritual transfiguration.

All of this is in stark contrast to what many have been traditionally taught. Thanks to the machinations of the Church, the attainment of knowledge gets Adam and Eve booted out of paradise, the apple is labeled forbidden fruit, and worse, the whole episode is presided by a serpent who was doing fine as a symbol of telluric forces until the Church turned it into a tool of the devil. And just like that, knowledge becomes evil, and coming into contact with it removes you from a state of bliss.

And yet “drinking” of this knowledge and applying it was precisely the reason why we sought out places of power on the land to begin with, and why creator gods with benevolent intentions would later imprint ”the knowledge” at sacred places, so we can travel to them whenever we forget that we too are gods, by experiencing, even if for a few moments, the taste of paradise.
