The word communication is derived from Latin word ‘communis’ meaning ‘common’. It stands for natural activity of all human beings to convey opinions, feelings, information and ideas to others through words ( written or spoken) body language or signs.

Organizational communication lays the keystone to every organization for upbringing and grooming the environment of that particular organization.

Organizational communications refer to communications and interactions among employees or members of an organization.

Communication is the life source of organisations because organisations involve people. People cannot interact with each other without communication.

Communication can take various forms but all forms involve the transfer of information from one party to the other.

It is not possible to have human relations without communication. However, good and effective communication is required not only for good human relations but also for good and successful business Organization.

Effective Communication is significant for managers in the organizations so as to perform the basic functions of management, i.e., Planning, Organizing, Leading and Controlling. Communication helps managers to perform their jobs and responsibilities

Types Of Organizational Communication: There are of two types,

This is communication that takes place within (or across) an organisation. In addition to the usual face to face, telephone, fax or mail; modern organisations may use technology to communicate internally. Technology may be used for e-mails or a linked internal communication system such as the intranet which is an internet system designed solely for use by those working for the organisation.

Conversely external communication is communication between the organisation and those outside the organisation. Modern organisations may design technological systems so that they can communicate with customers and undertake e-Commerce. Alternatively they communicate with other businesses through the internet or similar systems and undertake e-Business.

Francis J. Bergin advocates that there are seven C’s to remember in verbal communication. These are also applicable to written Communication. They are:
