Lecture 1:

So the XL journey has fnally started and it seems it won’t be a smooth ride.

Today’s Organizational behavior lecture gave us a ee! in a tyical

manager’s li"e# "unctions a manager lays in an organization and the

multitude o" decision he$she has to ma!e. we saw various roles that a

manager lays inside an organization. The lecture also tal!ed about the

common mista!es made by them in an organization and reason why most o" them hit their ceiling in a very short san o" time. The ro"essor divided the

whole class into small grous %&.'.& (amilies) to give us a "eel o" a real

organization. *ro"essor then gave us a grou tas! containing a situation

"aced by almost all organizations. +e had to thin! o" ourselves as a grou o"

managers who had been shouldered with a new roject and we had to defne

our riorities o" how to go about that roject. (irst we gave our individual

ratings to the tas!s and then through thorough discussion among our grou

came to a common solution.

Through this tas! , came to !now about my shortcomings in a grou. -aving

only month wor! e/erience , never had much o" e/erience wor!ing in

grous. This tas! gave me a chance to introsect and also learn "rom my

"ellow "amily members who came "rom diverse cultural and educational

bac!grounds.

Lecture 2:

Today we learned about the di0erent ersonality traits o" individuals and also

di0erent behavior atterns humans "ollow in di0erent circumstances. This

was the frst time , realized that each and every individual is uni1ue in some

way and that you can never understand the reason behind other’s action2

only come closer to the reason by analyzing the "acts. This lecture taught me

to induct a "eeling o" emathy when dealing with other’s issues and also how

the energy o" eole can be used "or value creation "or the organization.

Lecture 3:

,n this we too! 3,S4 test %3 5 3ominance2 , 5 ,n6uence2 S 5 steadiness2 4 5

4omliance). The test comrised o" number o" 1uestions regarding our

behaviors in di0erent circumstances and based on our answers the test triedto deduce the basic character o" our ersonality. ,t also told you about your

strongest and your wea!est area which "urther gave you chance to wor! on

your wea!nesses and imrove your ersonality. Sir also gave e/amles o"

various "amous ersonalities and their attributes "or e.g. 7ichael 8ordon a

tyical 93’2 atan Tata a tyical 9S’. Sir also e/lained in detail what these

results meant. (or me my strongest 1uality was in6uence2 that , could

in6uence a grou in a better way and my wea!ness came out to be

3ominance which meant that , would be better o0 wor!ing at a number ;

osition in an organization rather at number <.

&"ter that we as a section went "or the outbound adventure rogram which

gave us a chance to oen u to each other even more. ,t acted as an ice

brea!er "or our batch as we came to !now about all their bac!grounds %both

academic and cultural). ,n the lecture just a"ter the outbound rogram the

di0erence in our attitude was evident with the "act that we started sharingmore and more with each other. +e started behaving li!e a "amily in true

sense.

Lecture 5:

Page 3: Organizational Behavior Personal Learning Paper

,n this lecture we studied about emotional intelligence which is nothing but

the ability to detect and to manage emotional cues and in"ormation. +e

learned how this ability can hel a manager in his organization turning his

cowor!ers’ emotions into real strength and channelize them in creating value

"or the comany. +e also studied about the cascading model o" emotional

intelligence in which the frst stage comrises o" erceiving emotions in sel"

and others "ollowed by understanding the meaning o" those emotions and

fnally regulating those emotions "or the betterment o" the organization.

This lecture taught me how to ste into someone else’s shoes to understand

their situation and their "eelings in a better way. +e learned about some

strong emotions li!e love2 "aith and se/ which i" roerly transmuted canbring motivation and enthusiasm towards your wor!.

Lecture 6:

,n this we did 7yers =riggs tye ,ndicator %7=T,) which is a ersonality test

that tas "our characteristics and classifes eole into < to < ersonality

tyes. ,t judged your ersonality o > criteria %?/traverted or introverted#

sensing or intuitive# thin!ing or "eeling# judging or erceiving). This test

comrised o" a 1uestionnaire containing <@@ simle 1uestions which i"

answered honestly can lead you to your true ersonality tye. 7y ersonality

came out to be ?ST8 %?/traverted Sensing Thin!ing 8udging) or in other words

e/traverted thin!ing with introverted sensing. This ersonality tye is also

!nown as the guardian. , learnt a lot o" things about mysel" through this test.

, came to !now about my 1ualities which , never !new and also some1ualities which were !nown to me but still , could never caitalize on them.

7y ersonality tye described through this test advocated that my rimary

mode o" living is "ocused e/ternally2 where , deal with things rationally and

logically. 7y secondary mode is internal2 where , ta!e things in via my fve

senses in a literal2 concrete "ashion. Our ro"essor gave us a detailed coy o"

our ersonality tyes which heled me introsect more clearly and enabled

me to wor! on my strength in a better way.

+hile ta!ing this test we as a grou thought that it would have been better

had we ta!en this test in our high school as we would have absorbed these

insights easily. There"ore we decided to conduct this test among high school

students o" Loyola school in 8amshedur. The roject gave us an oortunity

to understand grou dynamics2 and cooerative and collaborative learning

styles. +e realised how imortant it is "or the team to thin!2 sea! and act in

unison to achieve otimised results. The times o" con6ict allowed us to loo!

at a situation holistically and move "orward. +ith regard to the activitiesconducted we2 as a grou2 were able to match each o" our strengths to the

tas! at hand. This activity2 also !nown as resource maing2 heled us to

ma!e the most out o" any individual. True to a high er"orming team2 we

were able to create synergy amongst ourselves and thus were able to

receive results which were more than the sum o" our individual er"ormance.

The success o" our activity2 "urther e/emlifes this "act. The roles that each

one o" us "ulflled were dynamic and overlaing which "urther strengthened

the bond amongst us. &nother major learning was ris! mitigation2 we were to

lan our activities in such a way that there would always be bac! u or *lan

= in case *lan & did not wor!. &lso we learnt to resect each other’s oinions

and at the same time gave sace and 6e/ibility "or each individual to grow.

Lecture 7:

,n this lecture we too! a motivational analysis test in which we were as!ed to

write our strengths and accomlishments on one aer and then match

those accomlishments with the motivation drives that led you to accomlish

that articular tas!. This test gave me an insight about what "actors drives

me the most and also gave me a chance to materialize those motivational

"actors in ; years in XL,.

Page 5: Organizational Behavior Personal Learning Paper

To be honest , was a little deressed a"ter coming here as my insecurities

too! over me. , "orgot about my accomlishments2 , "orgot that everything is

ossible i" you believe in yoursel". ,n my frst month here at XL, , lost that

sel"Abelie". =ut this test made me remember all those achievements and how

, achieved them. This test gave me the motivation to do , was suosed to

do at XL,: wor! hard.

Lecture 8:

+e studied about 7otivation B 7aslowCs hierarchy o" needs theory which

tal!ed about D basic human needs i.e. hysiological2 sa"ety2 social2 esteem2

and sel"Aactualization in which as each need is substantially satisfed2 the

ne/t need becomes dominant.

+e learned about the lower order needs which are necessary "or survival

such as hysiological and sa"ety needs and also about higher order needs

which are satisfed internally such as social2 esteem2 and sel"Aactualization

needs.

*ro"essor also tal!ed about various modern hilosohers and sychologists

li!e Sigmund (reud2 &dler2 and Sullivan and also shared their e/eriences

with "ew o" their atients which in my oinion were very "ascinating.

Lecture 9 & 1:

,n these ; lectures we studied various theories regarding intrinsic and

e/trinsic motivational "actors that drive emloyees to wor! to their "ull

otential in an organization. +e studied Theory X and Theory E. Theory X

assumes that emloyees disli!e wor!2 are lazy2 disli!e resonsibility2 andmust be coerced to er"orm. Theory E assumes that emloyees li!e wor! are

creative2 see!s resonsibility2 and can e/ercise sel"Adirection. +e also studies

the 7c4lelland’s theory o" needs which stated achievement2 ower2 and

aFliation are three imortant needs that hel e/lain motivation.

Page 6: Organizational Behavior Personal Learning Paper

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/organizational-behavior-personal-learning-paper 6/10

, could relate with all these theories as motivation has been a major "actor o"

me being a art o" this institute. , value motivation more than anything and

tried gaining insights through these theories.

,n lecture <@ we layed a game on Game theory which we later studied in

economics also. This game osed a dilemma and taught us that sometimes

what seems li!e an obvious answer isn’t always what haens in reality. +e

saw how we as a class were satisfed with ersonal %Grou) loss rather than

collective gain.

Lecture 11 & 12

,n lecture << we too! a "undamental interersonal relationshi orientationbehavioral test %(,OA=) which consisted o" D> simle 1uestions. This test

told us about our interersonal s!ills. The test told us about how we li!e to

send our time and also i" we are com"ortable in larger grous or smaller

grous. ,t also gave us an e/lanation about why we do what we do. This test

"urther validated the "act that every one o" us are uni1ue.

+e also too! 'olbCs Learning Styles and ?/eriential Learning 7odel test

which is designed to hel us assess the ways we adat to di0erent situations.

The inventory consisted o" eight items2 or general situations2 and as!ed us to

indicate how we resond to each. The results in this test told you about

which learning style suits you best or in other words in what way you learn

"rom your e/eriences.

,n Lecture <; we judged our own team members and chose who we li!e2 who

we resect2 with whom we would li!e to wor!2 and with whom we

communicate the most. +e then drew all the results o" all members on a

chart and had a lot o" "un along the way. Sir also gave some insights about

the grou by loo!ing at the chart.

+e also conducted this test with the same set o" high school students "rom

Loyola school in 8amshedur.

Lecture 13 & 1!:

,n lecture <H we were given a very interactive tas! in which we were given a

situation where we were art o" a lane crash and we had to ran! all the

items that could be salvaged "rom the crash site. Our grou was "urther

divided into small arts and we have to come u with a individual ran!ing o"

all items. Then those grou ran!ing were comared with the e/ert ran!ings

and through the comarison o" both ran!ing the nature o" the grou

dynamics were uncovered. This test heled me learn that , was better o0

wor!ing in a grou than wor!ing alone.

,n lecture <> there was a grou counseling o" our grou along with another

grou where at frst each one said ; good 1ualities about other erson. This

activity made me realize that there is so much that , don’t !now about

mysel"2 that there are so many 1ualities that , unconsciously ortray outside.

,t also heled me see through the negativities o" other members o" the grou

and "ocus on their ositives. &"ter this all o" us discussed the various

roblems "aced by us in this college and we collectively thought o" various

ways that could be alied in order to alleviate our roblems. This tas!

assured me that , was not alone "acing roblems in this college2 that there

were other eole as well who shared the same insecurities as me.

Lecture 15 & 16: Grou counseling o" other grous

Lecture 17 & 18:

,n these two lectures we learned about what ma!es good leaders and what

are the 1ualities that di0erentiate them "orm the masses. +e learnt that

leader is a erson who creates an insiring vision o" the "uture. +ho

7otivates and insires eole to engage with that vision. Then we were

Page 8: Organizational Behavior Personal Learning Paper

7/23/2019 Organizational Behavior Personal Learning Paper

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/organizational-behavior-personal-learning-paper 8/10

as!ed to tal! about a erson "rom our ersonal li"e who we thin! o" as a good

leader with our grou. , tal!ed about my grand"ather being a strong fgure

and the other grou members also shared their cherished memories with

their resective leaders. Then each and every grou members came with

certain 1ualities that they thin! should be there in a good leader.

This activity taught me that , don’t have to go "ar to get motivation. , can just

loo! u to the great eole who have art o" my li"e2 who , thin! have layed

their role in a better way.

Lecture 19 & 2:

,n lecture <Ith

we discussed a case on a erson who !illed himsel" a"ter beingromoted to a higher osition. +e had a very "ruit"ul discussion in the class

about what all reasons could have led that erson to ta!e such a serious

ste. +e analyzed the case ste by ste and fnally came to a conclusion

that seemed li!e the most robable answer as to why that erson !illed

himsel".

This class was an eye oener "or me in the sense that , understood that wor!

is not everything in li"e2 that there has to be a roer balance between your

ersonal and wor! li"e.

,n lecture ;@ we tal!ed about > ste model "ollowed by "anatics :A

<. Their resent situation which they show as very miserable;. Their ast situation which they ortray as very roserousH. Their enemy who they thin! is the main reason behind their

miserableness>. Then fnally they tell the solution as to how can get rid o" their

miseries.

,ronically we learned that same model can be alied to bring ositive

change as well.

Page 9: Organizational Behavior Personal Learning Paper

+e also tal!ed about the human brain2 how it consists o" the human brain

and the mon!ey brain. +e also tal!ed about various modes o" thin!ing we

have according to our thin!ing mindsets %&utoilot2 Gremlin2 Goblin2 and

Stone o" li"e).

Through this lecture , learned how negative thin!ing can a0ect my

er"ormance in a more tangible way and understood the imortance o"

ositive thin!ing.

,n a nutshell , would say that , had a great e/erience in this class. This

subject was one o" the major reasons behind me getting out my

deressed state. , gained a lot o" insights about mysel" and also my

strengths which lay untaed be"ore. , than! my ro"essor "rom the

bottom o" my heart "or ma!ing this subject so meaning"ul and interactive

"or us.
