Organic FoodsA better option?
Have you ever found yourself debating whether to buy organic food versus conventionally grown foods?
What is organic?
Organic foods are items that are produced, processed and packaged without using chemicals including items such as vegetables, fruit, milk, meat and cotton.
Organic farming doesn’t mean that they go back to methods used
hundreds of years ago.
They take modern scientific knowledge and combine them with useful traditional farming methods.
The key issues for concern are pesticide residues in and on food, agricultural practices
that hurt the environment, and antibiotic use in animals.
At the moment, there is no proof that organic
foods are more nutritious than conventionally grown
foods.
Organic Farmers that raise Livestock do not believe in treating
BSE or any antibotics. Therefore if their animal gets sick it
either goes to butcher (which is contaminated meat) or they let it
suffer and die
.Livestock
Organic farming is better for our environment.
Organic farmers do not use synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides
So instead they adopt techniques to nourish crops and protect the soil which reduces groundwater pollution,
uses less energy and less water.
Organic farming isn’t just for vegetables, but animals as well
Which can be a controversial subject.
Organic farmers strive to maintain living conditions that accommodate natural
behavior and health while limiting antibiotic use. However If their animal gets sick organic farmers do not believe in treatment and the
animal often suffers and dies as a result
Converting land to organic status is a three year process to meet standards set by the National Organic Program
rules.
Organic food tends to cost more than conventionally grown food because Organic farmers say it is more closely reflects the true cost of growing the food.
