Leadership may be assigned by position or title. The ability to influence others without position or title is emergent leadership.

Emergent leadership is evidenced through communication that is safe, open, receptive, and reflective. It is conferred in the self-

confidence of the individual and acceptance of the group (Northouse, 2012).

● Leadership that is adaptable to change may inspire and motivate a sustainable organization in the twenty-first century.

● Key elements to a thriving organization include a mission statement that is clearly articulated to shareholders and

established as the culture of the organization.

● Built into the short-term and long-term vision of the organization are strategic plans, performance management, and

leadership development.

● In order to retain quality employees, staffing policy and procedure must reflect the mission in hiring, training,

development, and succession planning resulting in labor relations that build substantial relationships.

● Environmental and socioeconomic policy, ethics, and cultural diversity in thought and action, are echoed in corporate

responsibility.

● In order for leaders to establish an organization that embraces the future it must establish a culture of change as constant

and a continuous opportunity to learn.
