What do I need to learn to get a green job?

• Everyone wants to know: what makes a green job different from a non-green job in the same occupation?

• What is a green carpenter? • How is he different from a non-green carpenter?

Project Goals

• Conduct 30 WorkKeys assessments in 10 occupations with green jobs

• Identify a task list for training and certification• Identify foundational skills• Identify career level skills

• Identify which tasks are related to “green”• Compare to the traditional occupation

• Do some preliminary research• Gather 3-6 experts (incumbants)• Create a final task list• Identify the skill levels required for each task

Sneak Peak: Wind Turbine Technician

• Different components of the training curriculum are not connected: electrical, electronic, hydraulic, etc.

• Some reported better success recruiting workers from other occupations than community college

• Others reported that community college grads were better equipped to adapt to changing technologies
