Danny Snell Family Life MinisterDonnieCarnathan

BenevolenceMinister

Our Nebraska mission group has had a great trip, and should be back with us in our assemblies Sunday. Thanks so much to all who participated, and also to those who subbed in for them while staying here at home. A special note of gratitude goes to Danny Snell for taking on the coordinator role for the trip this year. And I know it was a blessing for David Keen to get to be with our group there, and for all to get to know him and work with him this past week.

Speaking of the Keens, David and Kiera will have a big sendoff from their church family in NC Sunday, and I know it will be a very emotional time for them and for the church there. Keep all of them in your prayers. The plan is for them to move west to us this coming week and hopefully to be in our assembly this next Sunday the 23rd. What a blessing they will be to our church family and community in the years ahead!!

Our hearts continue to go out for our West Erwin family members who are suffering because of health issues, are concerned for loved ones who are struggling, or who are mourning the loss of those close to them. Please keep them in your prayers and encourage them in whatever ways you can.

This Sunday in our classes we will look at a wonderful passage that offers great counsel for how we should live our lives every day, and especially so during the days of difficulty. You make it your theme verse!

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thess. 5:16-18)

Only a child of God can do these three things.

Rejoice always—even in the difficult times. How is that possible? It is possible only when one is in the Lord Jesus Christ. “Rejoice in the Lord always; I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Phil. 4:4)

Pray continually—Never be far from the throne room of God, and be reminded that throughout the book of Hebrews and the rest of Scripture our heavenly Father invites us to talk to Him anytime, anywhere.

Give thanks in all circumstances—The world doesn’t get this. They only understand giving thanks when things are going well. For the Christian, our lives are filled with hope and joy and gratitude—in good times and in difficult times. That’s part of what it means to live by faith. We trust our Father. And so we are thankful.

Bible Class Join us for Bible Class this Sunday @ 9:00. Our study for this quarter... His Mercy Extended, Living It Out in a World of Idols. The study will be taken from Judges & Thessalonians. Consider the following from 1 Thes. 5:14-15 “And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else."

As paren ts, I th ink we all want to help teach our chi ldren to love G od’ s Word. Different chi ldren have different learning styles and it is important to take that into consideration when encouraging your chi ld to spen d t ime in God’s Word. This art ic le from Children’s Ministry h ighlights the different learning styles for chi ldren and ways those learning styles can thr ive dur ing Bible study t ime. O ver the next several weeks, we wi l l highlight the different learning styles and how each can be encouraged to learn more about the Bible. WORD SMA RT: Chi ldren may be Word Smart if they have these strengths: memorization, reasoning, speaking, debating, l istening, reading and writ ing.

To get Word Smart k ids into the Word of God, have them:

List everything that God knows from the entire psalm. Then for each thing G od knows, complete this sentence: “Because God kn ows _______, I know that God is _______.”

Debate the “hate” verses (Psalm 139: 19-22). Do you agree or disagree with “O Lord, shouldn’t I hate those w ho hate you? Should I desp ise those w ho oppose you?”

Write a story about someone w ho’s l ost and discovers the truth that God was a lways w ith him or her.

This past week in Nebraska has been pretty amazing! The VBS that we put on for this community was a sight to see and I know that lives will forever be changed because of the ways we were used by God this week. Pray for the Keen family!

Thanks My dear brothers and sisters: Words fail me when I try to tell you how much all of the funny and serious cards for my birthday meant to me. I have laughed and shed a few tears when they have touched my heart. Thank you so much. I truly consider you my brothers and sisters. With all my love, Billie Bob Hickman.

We want to thank you for the beautiful flowers sent for mom’s funeral and all the tributes of love that you have shown for her. Mother’s passion for children and education spanned many decades, and nothing would light up her face more than when interacting with children. There was always a solution for any child’s behavior problem, and that alone was a challenge she was dedicated to solve. She was a firm disciplinarian and children loved her for it. She seldom went anywhere that one of her former students wouldn’t come up to visit with her. Mom will be greatly missed by her family and everyone she touched. Christ and the church was another passion, and she greatly missed getting to go to church when it became difficult to attend. We want to thank each and every one of you for visiting her and sending cards and flowers. The family of Velma Lemons
