All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast. A person finds joy in giving an apt reply — and how good is a timely word! Light in a messenger’s eyes brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones. A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers. Like one who takes away a garment on a cold day, or like vinegar poured on a wound, is one who sings songs to a heavy heart. Closing Hymn Farewell to Alleluia 11th Century Text

(The Alleluia banner will be removed from the Sanctuary during the singing of this hymn)It is an ancient custom in the Christian church that a “Farewell to Alleluia” be sung at the close of the liturgy on the Sunday before Ash Wednesday. Traditionally “Alleluia” is not sung then until Easter morning, symbolizing our voluntary restraint of praise during the penitential season of Lent. This 11th-century hymn, translated by John Mason Neale, is a traditional farewell to Alleluia.

We have two dates in March when we will cook dinner for Camp Re-store. If you would like to join us, learn more about Camp Restore, and have some fun in the kitchen, please put Tuesday, March 10th and Monday, March 16th on your calendars. We will be cooking in Re-deemer's kitchen in the afternoon and then transport dinner to Camp Restore (housed in Mt Calvary Lutheran Church at 17100 Chalmers in Detroit) to serve the campers. The Kenyon College (Ohio) Chamber Singers will be giving a free concert in Redeemer's Sanctuary on Satur-day night, February 29th at 7pm. The Chamber Singers, consisting of fi fty un-dergraduates chosen by competitive au-dition, is Kenyon's premier touring en-

semble. The members come from twenty-one states and China. They will present an eclectic mix of a cappella choral repertoire on their 2020 Spring Tour. They will be joined by the award winning Langsford Men's Chorus, directed by our very own Steve SeGraves. Gordon Finlay, Pete Raczka, John Wargelin and Jeff Buttray, all members of the Redeemer Chancel Choir, sing in the LMC as well. The men will sing a short set before the Chamber Singers present their program for the evening.
