• Coverage, ambition, sustainability– Expand participation (more age groups, more language

sections, more students)– Expand pedagogical content (expert instrument lessons,

differentiate ability levels, formalise evaluations, better materials)

– Place on sustainable financial basis (time costs, ancillary costs)

• Duration– 60 minutes (5+ pupils on same instrument)– 45 minutes (3-4 pupils)– 30 minutes (1-2 pupils)

• Tuition by expert musicians already working through periscolaire programme.

• Timing: depends on availability of teacher and other participating pupils.

• Offered at a significant discount by comparison to individual music lessons.

10

How to enrol

• After 25.10.2012 meeting.• 26.10.2012 Mamer (8h00-9h00, 13h00-14h00)• At FAPEEEL office (Jean Monnet Building, Kirchberg) during

office hours.

• No online inscriptions. Partly to avoid costs, but mainly because a three stage process is involved : agree timing of group lesson, complete the enrolment form + make bank transfer.

• Exceptionally: waive EUR50 fee for non members.

11

Q&A #1A number of issues were raised before/during the meeting, to which answers were provided at the meeting. These include:• What was the reaction of pupils when the project was presented to

them?• There are clearly new elements, but what are the main differences for

existing Starter Band participants?• Why is there such an emphasis on regular musical instrument lessons? • Are pupils recommended to do theory lessons (solfège)?• Is there a disadvantage to students if musical instrument lessons are not

done through the periscolaire programme?• Are periscolaire courses eligible for assistance under the Luxembourg

"cheque-accueil" scheme? Are there any government grants or subsidies?• For the Starter Band, if students are not already doing individual music

lessons, can group lessons be considered instead?

12

Q&A #2• What will the school administration be doing to help the project?• What if a pupil is learning an instrument which is not in the core list for the

orchestra?• What if a Pri 5 or Sec 1 or Starter Band pupil already has extensive

experience playing their instrument?• Will enrolment be possible after the half-term holidays? Can forms be

circulated electronically? • Can another information meeting be foreseen after the half-term holidays?• Are the costs fairly shared between the different components?• Is a minimum number of inscriptions necessary to guarantee that each

element of the project goes ahead? Will the project still be launched if there are insufficient inscriptions in one component?

• How will the evaluation process work?• If the level of enrolment is sufficient, can additional elements be considered

(eg. weekend workshops)?
