Dear Friends of Orchard Village,

We are so pleased to share with you the highlights of our fiscal year ending June 30, 2018. Orchard Village continued to invest our energy and focus on expanding employment opportunities, increasing opportunities for independence and nurturing growth for over 300 people with disabilities.

This year, our community based employment program helped 22 individuals to find new jobs in the community and assisted an additional 67 to maintain their jobs. We continued to expand our supportive housing program, enabling 27 individuals to rent apartments in their community of choice and providing them with the resources they need to maintain their independence. We provided 24/7 support to an additional 70 individuals in Orchard Village owned group homes scattered throughout the north Chicagoland area. We saw 4 students graduate from Orchard Academy, all with jobs in the community. We held over two dozen free activities in our Activity Center, including classes in sports, arts and theater as well as parties and movies nights. We had 11 individuals participate in Special Olympics and 6 won gold!

Our newest endeavor, InnOVations, celebrated its one year anniversary. InnOVations is Orchard Village’s employment focused day program that works to move individuals out of traditional day programs and sheltered work environments into paid jobs in the community through training and internships. Over the past year, InnOVations grew to support 20 individuals at 10 different internship sites. As a direct result of the program, 3 individuals found jobs in their community. We are pleased with the results of this forward-thinking new program and look forward to its continued success.

We are also extremely proud to announce that we were accredited by CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) for our employment programs and administrative practices. We received a 3-year accreditation, the highest accreditation level.

The Orchard Village Farm continued to thrive, producing over 2,800 pounds of produce. Harvested and packaged fruits and vegetables were delivered to our 24 hour group homes as well as sold at the Skokie Farmer’s Market. Remaining produce was delivered to the Niles Township Food Pantry in order to support the larger community.

Orchard Village held a number of successful fundraising events including the 25th Annual Golf Classic, 13th Annual Cocktails for a Cause, and 31st Annual Blossom Gala. Orchard Village also held its 1st Annual Success Night showcasing the work of the people we support!

We are so grateful for the efforts of our committed Board of Directors, staff, donors, grantors and loyal volunteers on whom we depend each day. Thank you for being a part of the Orchard Village community!

Orchard VillageServices and Programs

Residential Services | Helps people realize their dream to live in a home in the community, whether a 24-hour supervised group home or in their own apartment. Our staff actively works with residential clients to ensure that they are involved in their environments, are connected to family and friends and meaningfully engaged with their communities.

Vocational Services | Facilitates a client’s desire for employment, either supported or competitive. Vocational staff listen to the needs and desires of our clients and assesses their skill sets. Comprehensive training ranges from resume development to career advancement. With individualized attention and ongoing support at the work site, clients are successful in their chosen careers.

InnOVations | Trains participants for a paid job in the community. Clients participate in work internships, job training, skill building, and therapeutic recreation. Programming and services are client-driven, and curriculum and activities are adjusted to adapt to the changing interests and skills of the participants. Home-Based Support Services | Provides attentive service facilitation to clients living at home with their families or on their own in the community. As a unique complement, Orchard Village can provide its own trained Personal Support Workers for families who require reliable in-home care for a loved one. We also offer the services of our expert Behavior Analysts for clients wishing to improve their behaviors or increase skills.

Orchard Academy | Teaches the independent living, vocational and social skills necessary for 17 thru 21 year-olds in special education to transition successfully into adult life. Students find success in securing and retaining employment, learning to navigate public transportation, being involved in social activities, living on a budget, planning a daily menu, caring for their home and other skills essential to living on their own.
