INFORMAL ORAL COMMUNICATION

It is also termed as ‘Grapevine’ or ‘Bush telegraph’.

Spend more time talking than writing in business.

Most of our oral communication will be informal.

Some of it will be formal as in meetings,phone calls,dictation,speeches, and oral reports.

Informal English is Used in everyday, personal conversations.

POLITE SPEECH It is also same as Courteous speech.

Polite words are the mannerly person's stock in trade.

‘Please’ is the most basic word of civility.

‘Thank you’ recognizes a person's kindness or consideration

‘May I?’ asks permission

‘I’m sorry’

INFORMAL ENGLISH CONTAINS USEFUL EVERYDAY PHRASES

Here you are. There you go. (when giving something to someone)

Excuse me?, Come again? (to ask someone to repeat something)

What do you mean? (to ask for explanation) So, you're saying that...? (to ask for

confirmation) Exactly!, I couldn't agree with you more. (to

agree with someone) By the way..., Anyway... (to change the
