What is cancer?
• Cancer is not just one disease, but a serious disease caused by cells that are not normal and that can spread to one or many parts of the body.
• Oldest description of cancer was discovered in Egypt and dates back to about 3000 BC.
• The origin of the word cancer is credited to the Greek physician Hippocrates.
• Now cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide.

Risk factors• Smoking• Smokeless tobacco users• Excessive consumption of alcohol.• Family history of cancer.• Excessive sun exposure• Males are more likely than female to
develop oral cancer.• Age over 40

What Are the Symptoms ?
• The development of velvety white, red, or white and red patches in the mouth.
• Unexplained bleeding in the mouth.• Numbness, loss of feeling, or pain in
any area of the face or mouth.• A soreness or feeling that something is
caught in the back of the throat• Ear pain.• Difficulty chewing or swallowing,
speaking, or moving the jaw or tongue.• Dramatic weight loss.
