What is Cloud Computing?
• Forrester: A standardized IT capability (services, software, or infrastructure)
delivered via Internet technologies in a pay-per-use, self-service way. Forrester Research: The Evolution of Cloud Computing Markets (July 6, 2010)
• Gartner: A style of computing where scalable and elastic IT-enabled capabilities
are delivered as a service to external customers using Internet technologies.

What is Cloud Computing?
• IDC Public cloud: Accessing “IT on demand” over the Internet with pay-as-you-
go models such as those from salesforce.com, Google Apps, and Amazon EC3
where IT infrastructure is shared across multiple customers. The IT
infrastructure is typically highly standardized and the management highly
automated.
• IDC Private cloud: A similar IT strategy as public clouds but it is applied within a
single enterprise or an extended enterprise as an internal shared set of
infrastructure. IDC: Cloud Computing Attitudes (April 2010)

• Agility: The #1 cause of system outage is unmanaged change**
• Costs (win-win):

CSC: CSC Foundation Services for Oracle Use Case
“CSC’s Cloud Foundation Services for Oracle rely on cloud management features such as metering
and chargeback in Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c,”
“We worked closely with Oracle's product management team during our solution development phase
to leverage the out of the box capabilities in Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c - and it reduced our
need to develop custom components.”
Sreedhar Kajeepeta,
Global vice president & chief technology officer, Technology Consulting Practice, CSC.
•CSC’s Cloud Foundation Services rely on Oracle Enterprise Manager for the deployment and management of private
clouds.
•CSC also offers a library of updated Oracle VM templates for Oracle Applications including Oracle’s Siebel CRM and
Oracle’s PeopleSoft. With the templates, Oracle customers can automate deployment of the assembled applications
into their environment from Oracle Enterprise Manager’s software library.
•CSC will be further incorporating Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c’s cloud management capabilities, such as metering,
chargeback and configuration management, into its Foundation Services solution.
