Chapter 2: Understanding Business Accelerators

Oracle Business Accelerators for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne enable you to easily configure your JD Edwards EnterpriseOne system. Business Accelerators help you define the setup data that supports business processes in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne products. Each Business Accelerator presents a series of business focused questions that are based on the applications that you select. Only those questions that pertain to the products that you select for implementation are displayed to you. Business Accelerators can be used with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 8.12 and later releases.

Note Business Accelerators are release specific. You cannot apply a Business Accelerator for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 8.12 to JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0.

Customers can purchase an Oracle Business Accelerator for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne to use during their implementation of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Using Business Accelerators can greatly reduce implementation time and costs. Business partners can use Business Accelerators as the basis to create custom configurations to support a particular country or industry. Business partners can use Oracle provided tools to create new Business Accelerators that can then be used for implementing JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.

This diagram provides an overview of the components that are required for running Business Accelerators:

Chapter 3: Working with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne

This chapter discusses installing JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.

Installing JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Business Accelerators work with an installation of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne at a release level of 8.12 or later and are applied from the Deployment Server. The environment on your Deployment Server should have only the base software that is provided on a CD or as an electronic download. You should not perform any testing or update any ESUs other than the ESU that supports Business Accelerators. Do not serialize or execute applications until after you load the Business Accelerators onto your Deployment Server. The Business Accelerator question and response user session might change items, such as data dictionary, and any applications that have been executed will need to be regenerated.

You can download and install the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne software from the Oracle Electronic Delivery (http://edelivery.oracle.com/) site. You must ensure that you install the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne software in accordance with the steps provided in Chapters 1 through 6 of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Applications Release 9.0 Installation Guide.

Note You can run the question and answer portion of the Business Accelerator on a machine other than your Deployment Server. You can use Business Accelerators in these ways:

• You can answer Business Accelerator questions without being connected to a JD Edwards EnterpriseOne installation. You must transfer the answers to your Deployment Server.

• You can use Business Accelerators with a standalone version of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0. In this case, you load the answers onto the standalone version. You can also move this answer set to a full server version of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.

Chapter 5: Installing Business Accelerator Packages

This chapter provides an overview of Business Accelerator configurations and discusses how to:

• Download Business Accelerator Packages.

• Deploy the ESU.

• Deploy Business Accelerators.

Understanding Business Accelerator Configurations Business Accelerators help you define the setup data that supports one or more business processes for one or more JD Edwards EnterpriseOne products. Business Accelerators can be applied to any JD Edwards EnterpriseOne environment from the Deployment Server or with standalone environments.

This table identifies the elements of a Business Accelerator package:

Data Type Purpose Questions Each Business Accelerator leads you through a series of questions

designed to configure your business processes.

Load Actions After completing the question and answer session, the Business Accelerator performs a series of tasks to load and configure your business processes.

Tables Business Accelerators include JD Edwards EnterpriseOne tables that contain the setup and sample data that you want, such as the Account Master (F0901) or Branch Plant Constants (F41001).

Versions Business Accelerator versions, which are prefixed with RIS, have processing options and data selection sets according to the most common business practices, and are configured for all of the programs on a Business Accelerator task view (menu).

User Define Codes (UDCs)

Business Accelerators include UDC tables and values. Not all of the UDC tables are included in the Business Accelerators.

Security Business Accelerators have roles that provide access to the programs on the task view (menu).

Task Views Business Accelerators include task views, which are collections of menus, programs, and versions that are organized for use with the business process.

Downloading Business Accelerator Packages You use Change Assistant to search for and download Business Accelerators and any required electronic software updates (ESUs) that are on the Update Center. These packages are also available from the Oracle Electronic Product Delivery (EPD) (http://edelivery.oracle.com/) site. You use Change Assistant to download, apply, and deploy any required ESUs to your environments.

Note Use SAR number 8901022 to search for the applicable ESUs for Business Accelerators.

Change Assistant presents information in a tree structure. Context sensitive help information is available for each node in the tree structure.

Prerequisites Install JD Edwards EnterpriseOne ensuring that you follow the installation processes provided in Chapters 1 through 7 of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Application Release 9.0 Installation Guide.

If you are installing a standalone client, see the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0 Standalone Client Installation Guide, Revised

Select 812 from the drop-down menu.

• Platform.

Select CLIENT from the drop-down menu.

4. In the Search by Names area of the Search pane, do one of the following:

• If you are downloading the ESU, enter the ESU name (such as JKnnnn) in the Name field or enter the SAR number (such as nnnnnn) in the SAR Number field.

Copyright © 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved 11

Page 18: Oracle Business Accelerators for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Installation Guide

You can view the download by clicking the Downloads folder in the Work with Packages node of the Change Assistant tree structure.

Deploying the ESU When you use Change Assistant and the 8901022 SAR number to query for pertinenet ESUs, you might receive a “No Results Found” message. If so, then you do not need to deploy any OBA specific ESUs before you execute the OBA load operation. If you do receive a list of ESUs, then you must deploy them to each target environment on your Deployment Server before you execute the OBA load operation.

Deploying Business Accelerators Deploying the Business Accelerator consists of these two major steps and an optional step:

• Answer questions.

• Transfer questions and answers (optional).

• Load data.

You can run Business Accelerators on a machine other than a Deployment Server. You can use any Microsoft Windows platform where Change Assistant is properly installed to complete the question and answer user session. After you answer the questions and before you load data, you must transfer the user session to your Deployment Server.

You can complete the questions and answers over a period of time. You can temporarily end a session and then restart the session at a later date. You can transfer a completed user session or a partially completed user session. If you started your question and answer session on a development machine other than the Deployment Server and temporarily exited the user session, you can move the unfinished user session to the Deployment Server and restart the user session. The user session restarts with the question and answer panel where you stopped.

Each time you deploy or restart a Business Accelerator user session, Change Assistant compares your package with the Update Center version. If the package on the Update Center supersedes your package, a Download Applications Fixes window appears asking if you would like to use the newer version of the package. Instructions are included in the new version to help you evaluate the nature of the update and whether you should download and deploy the new package. If you choose to download and deploy the new package, you must redo the question and answer user session.

Transferring a user session to the Deployment Server requires two steps: export and import. You use Change Assistant on your development machine to export the user session. You use the Deployment Server to import the user session.

You must use a Deployment Server to complete the load portion of the process.

Context-sensitive help is available for each question and answer panel.
