EQ - Historical perspective
y Robert Thorndike 1930 was writing about social intelligence.
y Davis Wechsler 1940 proposed non intellective and intellectiveelement s of intelligence ( affective, personal and social).
y Guilford 1967 presented view of Intelligence as a multi facetedconstruct.
y Gardner 1983 - arranged primary mental abilities called multipleintelligence.
y Salovey and Mayor 1990- First used the term emotional intelligence.
y Goleman 1995 Introduced it in everyday life.

20 educated, English speaking parents having childrenof 8 to 13 yrs of age will be selected randomly fromresidential areas of Hyderabad city for their EQ
assessment, and their 120 children for optimism andsocial competence.These parents were also divided intwo groups:
60 of th

Remaining 60 Parents who are relocated & movedin Hyderabad during last 10 years

selected randomly from schools of Hyderabad for
social competence and optimism; later their 120
parents will be assessed for EQ assessment. childrenselected will be divided in two groups- :
60 Localized children living in Hyderabad sincetwo generations
Rest 60 children who have moved to Hyderabadin the span of 10 years

y 120 children from age 8 to 12 years (class 4 to 6)
will be selected randomly from two schools and
get their data from intake sheet, Children's
attribution style questionnaire and test for socialcompetency. After the assessment, parents will be
called in school for their assessment. All tests are
in self test form so can be mailed to parents
