Multi-Port Carrier Ethernet Demarcation The A-1180 is a Carrier Ethernet Demarcation device that enables multiple Ethernet services to enterprises and business subscribers. Owned by service providers and located at the customer premise, it provides a clear demarcation point between customer and service provider networks. Besides delivering managed services to customers via MEF-UNI with QoS control for each service, the A-1180 has all the necessary carrier-class management and OAM functions essential for service providers to monitor network health and performance up to the demarcation point. Ethernet Services, E-Line and E-LAN as defined by the Metro Ethernet Fo- rum, have become the new revenue drivers for service providers serving business and residential customers worldwide. There is now an emerging need for Service providers to evolve their service strategy and offer multiple services using a single demarcation device at the customer location. While significantly reducing the cost of cus- tomer acquisition and adding new serv- ices to the same customer location, this strategy also reduced the complex- ity and overall cost of service delivery. Product Highlights • 8-port Fast Ethernet MEF-UNI supporting multiple services • Q-in-Q based service mapping and identification • Support for QoS attributes of SLA • Modular FE and GE fiber uplink modules using pluggable SFP/SSF with transceiver information display and DDM (as per SFF-8472) functions • OAM functions for remote trouble-shooting • Full management integration with ASPEN, allowing point-and-click fast service provisioning Working seamlessly with the A-Series Switches end-to-end Carrier Ethernet product portfolio, including the A-2000 family of edge switches, A-4100 aggre- gation switch and A-8100 metro core switch, the A-1180 allows service providers to deliver multiple services with guaranteed Committed Informa- tion Rate (CIR) and bursty Excess In- formation Rate (EIR) for each service. Multi-Port Carrier Ethernet Demarcation

The A-1180 is a Carrier Ethernet Demarcation device that enables multiple Ethernet services to enterprises and business subscribers.Owned by service providers and located at the customer premise, it provides a clear demarcation point between customer and serviceprovider networks.

Besides delivering managed services to customers via MEF-UNI with QoS control for each service, the A-1180 has all the necessary carrier-class management and OAMfunctions essential for service providers to monitor networkhealth and performance up to the demarcation point.

Ethernet Services, E-Line and E-LANas defined by the Metro Ethernet Fo-rum, have become the new revenuedrivers for service providers servingbusiness and residential customersworldwide. There is now an emergingneed for Service providers to evolvetheir service strategy and offer multipleservices using a single demarcationdevice at the customer location. Whilesignificantly reducing the cost of cus-tomer acquisition and adding new serv-ices to the same customer location, this strategy also reduced the complex-ity and overall cost of service delivery.

Product Highlights

• 8-port Fast Ethernet MEF-UNI supporting multiple services

• Q-in-Q based service mapping and identification

• Support for QoS attributes of SLA

• Modular FE and GE fiber uplink modules using pluggable SFP/SSFwith transceiver information display and DDM (as per SFF-8472) functions

• OAM functions for remote trouble-shooting

Product OverviewThe A-1180 is a Carrier Ethernet Demarcation device with eight 10/100Base-T Ethernet interfaces on the cus-tomer network side. Each service perport uses the Q-in-Q based servicemapping and identification to provisionan Ethernet Virtual Circuit (EVC) corre-sponding to the service. The uplink slot on the service providernetwork side supports both Fast Ether-net and Gigabit Ethernet uplink mod-ules. The FE and GE uplink modulesuse pluggable SFP transceivers usingeither dual strands or single strandfibers of various distances, allowingservice providers to cost effectivelyconnect the A-1180 to fiber local loop.

Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) isalso supported as per the SFF-8472standard. For off-net deployment, a10/100/1000Base-T uplink module isavailable, simplifying the co-location ofthe A-1180 with the access point of the3rd party network.

A1180 Features

• Eight 10/100Base-TX Access Ports – More Services and Applications

• Modular Uplink Interface –More Flexibility and LowerMigration Cost

• Per-port Rate Limiting and Priority Queuing – Customized QoS for Each Service

• OAM – Easy Remote Trouble Shooting

• Full Integration with ASPEN – Easy Service Pro-visioning and Management

Applications

Ethernet UNI for E-Line and E-LAN Services in a NokiaSiemens Networks A-SeriesSwitches EnvironmentFunctioning as UNI for E-Line and E-LAN services, the A-1180 can be deployed as the endpoint of theseservices, working with A-1180 or A-2100 as the other endpoints acrossan A-Series Switches edge and corenetwork. Operators can provision E-Line and E-LAN services in a point-and-clickmanner. Hard QoS is ensured for eachservice, and 50ms protection can beguaranteed within an A-Series Switch-es edge and core network.

Ethernet UNI for E-Line and E-LAN Services in Any ExistingEdge/Core NetworkThe A-1180 is an ideal demarcationdevice for operators who want to re-place the existing media converters orother legacy devices at the customerpremise in order to deliver high-valueEthernet services to business custo-mers. The A-1180 can be connecteddirectly to the existing provider networkvia its FE or GE uplink interface and itcan be managed, either in-band or out-of-band, from a central location.

Ethernet UNI for E-Line and E-LAN Services in Off-NetCarriers who want to offer Ethernetservices outside their own regions mayuse off-net from a 3rd party serviceprovider. The A-1180 can be used toconnect the end customers on the access side and the off-net on the net-work side. A modular uplink providesthe most convenient way to connect tothe off-net.

Features & Benefits

Eight 10/100Base-TX AccessPorts – More Services and ApplicationsIn a compact form factor, the A-1180provides eight access ports which allows service providers to provisionmultiple services. The access portscan also be used for other applicationslike connecting the out-of-band man-agement port of other CPEs at thesame customer location so networkmanagement can be extended to thoseCPEs.

Modular Uplink Interface – More Flexibility and Lower Migration CostThe A-1180 uses a modular design forthe uplink interface to the provider network.Service providers can choose the uplink module that:• Best fits the last mile network• Migrates smoothly from Fast

Ethernet to Gigabit Ethernet local loop

• Connects the A-1180 in an off-netdeployment

Per-port Rate Limiting & PriorityQueuing – Customized QoS forEach ServiceThe A-1180 supports configurableQoS, such as rate limiting and trafficprioritization, for each service. Usedwith other A-Series Switches edge andcore products, the A-1180 supportsConnection Admission Control (CAC)and allows service providers to provi-sion CIR/EIR and delay/jitter bound fortheir SLA.

OAM – Easy Remote TroubleShootingThe A-1180 supports such OAMfunctions as:• Link Fault Propagation• Dying or Last Gasp• Ethernet loopback• Standard traps• DDM for monitoring optical

performance on the physical layer

Integrated in ASPEN Fault Managerand Device Properties, these OAMfunctions allow service providers toeasily monitor the health of the networkall the way to the demarcation pointand receive precise error messages. In addition to the Fault Managementcapabilities listed above, the A-1180supports standards based PerformanceMonitoring per the ITU-T Y.1731 standard. Performance monitoring statistics enabled by Y.1731 includePacket loss, delay, delay variation, andcontinuity.

Full Integration with ASPEN –Easy Service Provisioning andManagementThe A-1180 is fully managed by ASPEN, Nokia Siemens Networks’ industry-leading network managementand service provisioning system.Ethernet services can be provisionedin a point-and-click manner with the A-1180 as the endpoint of the services.
