I decided to begin my careerwith PwC in Jersey as I knewthat I would receive qualitytraining and experience in asmaller office. I was originallyoffered a job in Dublin, myhome town, but I knew that by training in Jersey I would be open to opportunities that I would not receive in a bigger office.
Since I have been here I havehad no regrets. I have hadexposure to many differentindustries and clients and havelearnt so much in such a shortspace of time. Coming to theend of my second year I amalready taking a more seniorrole on my jobs, something thatwould be impossibleelsewhere.
One of the main advantages of working in the Jersey officeis the social side to the job.Being a smaller office there is a great sense of camaraderieand fun. Mixing this with all the joys the beautiful island of Jersey has to offer, makes your training period a veryenjoyable experience.

As a place to live and workJersey offers me manychallenges and rewards. I started my career with PwCassurance in Edinburgh beforedeciding to seek a differentexperience in the ChannelIslands. Much of my client workin the Jersey assurance teamwas similar to the work Iperformed in Edinburgh but the beauty of work in Jersey is that your clients are all onyour doorstep, which leads to reduced travel time withouthaving to compromise onexposure to famous brandclients.
After I qualified in theassurance team I decided thetime was right to explore otheropportunities, specifically in tax.The great thing about PwC,and particularly here in theChannel Islands practice, is that there are so many
opportunities all under oneroof, which affords you flexibilityand an experience second to none.
When work is done for the dayyou find that there are no endof possibilities for your leisuretime with beaches just minutesaway to try your hand at surfingor joining the crew of a racingyacht for some adrenaline! My move to Jersey has definitelypaid off and has offered mewhat many of us seek - thatelusive work/life balance.

I spent the summer after Igraduated in Jersey andenjoyed it so much that Istayed. The weather was agreat incentive – it doesn’t rainas much here as at home in Dublin!
I joined PwC as a tax traineeand six years later I’m now amanager in our tax practice.Working in a smaller officemeans you get a broad rangeof experience, so in that timeI’ve worked with virtually everytype of client from the worldsleading banks, to local retailers.
When I came here I thoughtthat living on an island mightmean being isolated from therest of the world. I needn’t haveworried, I can be in Europe byferry two hours after I finishwork. Not only that, as Jersey is an international financialcentre, I work with people fromall over the world, from
Sweden, Kenya, Germany,Poland, Pakistan - that’s not tomention the internationalnetwork of PwC offices.
The finance industry in theChannel Islands is partly builton their tax systems. Workingin PwC here gives me thechance to work in a placewhere tax is regularly frontpage news. Where else in theworld can you say that?

I joined the Guernsey office in1994 as a graduate havingworked in London for an ITconsulting firm after leavingUniversity. The attraction of a15 minute commute combinedwith the training offered by thefirm became too much and Idecided to move back home. I am currently responsible forour Risk Assurance Services inthe Channel Islands.
Being born on Guernsey I likenothing better than getting outon the water. The island’s baysare second to none forkitesurfing and windsurfing. In my formative years I spentmy free time on my board or ina dinghy. Currently I crew on a yacht which we race in localand inter island competitions.Being so close to France, races include French portswhich make for great week-ends away.
In 2000 I moved to Toronto with my wife and daughterwhere we perfected our skiing. My clients included CIBC oneof the banks that I have workedon in Guernsey. I returned tothe Channel Islands in 2003and was promoted to directorin 2006. My current clientsinclude major internationalbanks, life insurancecompanies and listedcompanies and funds.
My growing family live in abeautiful, safe environment withexcellent education and healthfacilities, and for me, well thereare not many places in worldwhere you can combine a firstrate career and your passionfor whatever sport you play.

Working in the PwC tax team inGuernsey has allowed me togain a much wider range ofexperiences and responsibilitiesat an earlier stage duringtraining compared with peers in the UK practice. There isscope for swift promotion andthere are possibilities forsecondments between theislands and further afield.
A range of qualifications wereoffered to me at interview stageincluding ACA, ACCA and CTA and there are greatprospects for enhancing mybusiness experience if I remainin the island once qualified.
Training is flexible and highlysupported by the office culture,as is a busy social life. Thereare events on every other weekand failing those, there are aselection of bars andrestaurants to choose from less than a minute’s walk fromthe office.
We have access to all the PwC network’s resources withthe added advantages of living in a unique, low tax, islandenvironment. The careerprospects are excellent and the people I work with areexceptional.

I am an Advisory Executiveworking in the Channel Islandson secondment from Australia. I came over to develop aproduct in the Channel Islandsthat one of the Guernsey staffworked on with us whilst onsecondment in Australia!
Adapting to such a smalllocation in comparison toAustralia was surprisingly easy. The supportive environment ofa small office ensured that Iwas introduced to and settledinto the Island lifestyle veryquickly. Not only that, little did I know that working for PwCChannel Islands would actuallyopen up a whole new world ofopportunities for me. Its givenme exposure to some of thelargest global organisationsand opportunity to build strongrelationships with other PwCoffices around the worldincluding Cyprus, Netherlands,Australia and the UK.
The mix of career with Islandlifestyle is above and beyondanything I could ever have inAustralia or London...eatinglunch in the fresh air on thepier, a 2 minute walk away fromwork, or driving 10 minutes tothe beach to run with the dog...Why would you want to workanywhere else...??

I joined the Guernsey office asa newly qualified accountant in1993 from a mid size firm inDublin. At the time themotivation for joining was to getaway from home and work inan English speaking FinancialServices area. The fact that Iwas earning London wagesand paying a flat 20 per centtax was a bonus.
My passion is rugby and Ifound that I could work in a bigfirm and still be able to maketraining twice a week, play at ahigh standard in the Londonleagues each Saturday, and
keep my career moving ahead.
In 1999 I tranferred to our officein Sydney for 5 years - justenough time to see in theMillenium, the Olympics, theAshes, a Lions tour and ofcourse the Rugby World Cup.
I came back to the ChannelIslands in 2003 and was madea partner a few years later.
These days I don't play rugbyanymore but the local radio do allow me to commentate. Not too many PwC partners inthe world get to do that everyother week.

Having moved to Guernseyfrom London with my wife, Ijoined PwC Guernsey inSeptember 2004 as anassociate studying for theACCA qualification, leavingbehind a career in the healthand fitness industry.
I didn’t quite know what toexpect moving into financialservices, but within my first yearI had gained experience insuch areas as insurance, banking, private equity, the listgoes on. I also experienced agreat amount of support to helpme through my studies, allowing me to balance mywork and study commitmentswith little effort.
I’ve had a busy 3.5 yearsmaking executive level, qualifying, renovating a house, getting married and morerecently having my first child. It made me realise that I amable to have the work life
balance
balance here in Guernsey that I did not have whilst I lived inLondon. For starters my daybegins and ends with a 15minute commute by bike to andfrom work, beating a daily 1hrtube commute hands down, and the beach is never far away.
I am now proactively workingtoward my promotion tomanager within the islandpractice. Having contact with all the Partners, Directors andManagers on a daily basisgives me the ability to receivethe regular feedback I need tohelp me get there.

At 18, I was a girl who wasdetermined not to follow thecrowd. With all my friendsmaking the decision to go toUniversity, I wanted to see what else was out there and I found myself being given theopportunity to work for one ofthe largest tax and assurancefirms in the world, on large andinteresting clients, as well asbeing paid a competitive salary.
The potential of becomingACCA qualified promised toopen doors for me in the future.
Being one of the youngestpeople in the office, there wasalways the worry that I wouldbe treated differently to thegraduates I had startedalongside, however this wasnever the case. Jersey really isan exciting place to live with agreat night-life. The majority ofmy social life involves peoplefrom work, and though we’re a diverse bunch there issomething for everyone. There are glamorous bars, restaurants and lounges beingopened or refurbished all thetime in town, and a broadeningrange of more relaxed andalternative venues around thecoast, as well as a year roundprogramme of live musicevents. I have learnt that it’s not all work and no play.

I initially visited Jersey onsecondment from the UK andgot to experience the FinancialServices sector for the firsttime. This and the Jerseylifestyle appealed to me and I returned on a permanentcontract to continue my career development.
The Channel Islands areinnovative jurisdictions, constantly improving their legaland regulatory frameworks toattract the best in the FinancialServices Industry, whileproviding an excellent offshoreenvironment for private andinstitutional investors alike. This means my portfolioincludes international hedgeand private equity funds, butalso local retailers and leisureattractions. I am also involvedin transaction work in the
Channel Islands, working withboth local and internationalbased specialists to provide afull range of services to thebusiness community.
Jersey itself has a greatatmosphere, which isencapsulated in the night life. There is a great selection ofbars, restaurants and clubs, and there is nothing morerelaxing in the summer than a drink after work in one of the many bars overlookingJersey’s pristine beaches.
