21

Page 22: Opportunities in East Coast Economic Region

BACKGROUND

• MCKIP was mooted in response to the China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park which has been accorded national-level status by the Chinese State Council.

• Malaysia’s Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak has proposed that a similar park to be built in Gebeng, Pahang to further strengthen Malaysia-China business and economic ties.

• The establishment of the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP) was announced by YAB Dato’ Sri Najib in April 2012.

• Both YAB Dato’ Sri Najib and Premier Wen agreed to this Project.

• Since then, officials from both Governments have met and discussed key issues on policies & implementation to ensure the success of MCKIP.

Kuantan Industrial Park

China-Malaysia

Qinzhou Industrial Park

• Present a unique “Two Countries, Twin Parks” model in the world.

• Co-invested and jointly operated by both Malaysian and Chinese

businesses, the two parks will bridge the flow of trade and capital, facilitate

the exchange of information and technology, promote the cooperation in

management and services between the two countries.

• The two parks will also serve as the landing point for businesses in one

country to expand their market into the counterpart
